When the irish government(fine gael) sold out our national airline (aer lingus)to AIG, AiG kept the name on the tin with the same label Aer lingus Which is Airline in irish.... AIG refuse to pay what the contract states the promised the pilots, so the pilots are only standing up for what they are entitled too. Aer lingus was sold to help the bailout with the banks back in 2011

They are some of the highest paid people in the country. Lower end is something around 130k per year up to 250k per year and they want a 25% pay jump, they also say they havent got a pay jump in a couple of years when in their contracts they get them ever single year, they didnt get any extra outside of the contracts the last time was 2 or 3 years ago and that was also a good jump as well. They also work less hours with the same pay per year after action they done a couple of years ago meaning more pilots had to be hired at the same pay rates to keep the airline running. On top of that they also have massive benifts from health to retirement. Yeah these people are not the working class factory types they are trying to make themselves out to be.

That's completely true and a fair point but If you are on 100k you are most likely bringing more to the table than someone on 27k

Remember the pilots are paid between something like 130-250k Euro! per year! depending on how long they are there. They get yearly pay ups even though they said they dont, they are working less hours now than they were a couple years ago for the same pay meaning more pilots were hired to cover it. These are some of the highest paid people in the country with some of the best benfits you can get.

And remember while 100 thousand were on the streets protesting water charges...which was a bad hill to die on ....meanwhile at the same time the government sold its controlling share in air lingus ...now we are seeing the effects of that ..its making 400 million a year 🤦 I'm still in shock as to how dumb those water protests were ...the government got the taxes anyway and our water is bad in many places ...

I don't think a pilot and a bus driver is comparable in terms of training skillset and capabilities required, that's just my opinion. But yeah it's hard to sympathize if they are getting the salary you stated

2:28 living in Manchester U.K. 23 years myself and having family in Ireland, I have used both coach and sail and SailRail via Holyhead since 2010 to come home to Ireland on visits - going forward, I suspect that this will be further restricted or even banned outright, as most trains in Wales and most ferries are diesel powered, which are far dirtier than aviation fuel and I don’t fly home because of the hassle with airport security post 9/11 and flying - already, there have been train strikes which have meant that I was stranded in Holyhead for 2 days on my last visit home to Ireland from Manchester in October 2022

They want 25% more, nice. Mid-career captains in Aer Lingus earn €177,365 a year in total, against a reported €163,450 in Ryanair. That €14,000 gap can widen to more than €75,000 for captains who reach year 20 with Aer Lingus, when they can earn €239,000. Aer Lingus co-pilots could earn up to €121,519 against a reported €82,474 in Ryanair, according to some estimates.
