The days when AEG were built like tanks! Always liked this series. The family who lived next door to my god parents replaced a 95 series Hotpoint with a similar model - even as an 8 year old I thought it was quite the upgrade 😂

I had an AEG 72640 in 2002 till 2011 that was built like a tank, the only issue is that the drum would sometimes hit the glass door on an unbalanced spin or spin rinse. I have a demo of a spin rinse (machine spins with water and jet on) here on my channel. It just had crude suspension and a drum lip that was a bit too close to the door, I read on automaticwasher website that others had that too. In the end, it was only changed to a Zanussi as the AEG used to get confused on wash cycle and pause or just randomly spin for like 2 seconds, causing the machine to jump out. It was sold for parts and I think the new owner put in a new PCB board and it worked fine again.

That would have been an Electrolux based machine. Still solid compared to how they are now, but that series was the beginning of the end. Although my 86741 was a good solid machine, it’s still not like the original AEGs such as this with the solid cast iron weights and stainless steel tub. Fortunately the 86741 still retained the German electronics and the German programming, whereas the 60000/70000 series adopted Zanussi programming/electronics.

It’s a progressive spin that gently ramps up the spin in slow increments so it removes water efficiently and also doesn’t put strain on the bearings.

@@blakaeg not quite, you are thinking of the Sensortronic spin rhythm. Variomatic is progressively faster bursts interspersed by tumbles, similar to BSH interval spinning/reduced ironing or Miele’s graduated spin. AEG had this feature since the 70s

@@TheWashHouse I thought it could be a White Knight dryer as it sounds like it.
