Oh dear. Poor Gabby and Beau. How confusing for both of them. Gabby’s lost her egg and Beau doesn’t have a clue what he’s supposed to do after mating and an egg is laid. 🤞❤️🦅🦅🥚🇦🇺

I wish everyone would be a little more patient with Beau and Gabby. Getting in sync takes time. Nature will work out as it is intended to do.

Ah poor boy Beau, he is very young and not yet fully on the hormone train! He's hot with desire if not all its skill😊, and thus parenting (incubating) isn't yet programmed in his sweet brain or body. I join everyone in highest hopes for the new couple. I'm worried that Gabby, if the only active parent, can't carry out incubating alone, much less caring for newborns and her own needs without a partner. But I still have hope! 🙏 🤲 🍀 🤞🏻

Some people will be upset with Beau, but he’s doing his best with what experience and instincts he has. Gabby picked him in spite of his youth. All of the great eagle dads started somewhere, with some time Beau could be another ❤ Talons crossed for Beau!

Aww. Poor Gabby, she's definitely confused. I think just like with people, eagles sometimes take a bit to figure out being a parent. Gabby is experienced, she's a great mother. Beau doesn't know what he's doing yet but with her guiding him, I have faith he'll figure it out ❤ it may not be this season but if they don't succeed this year at least it'll be a learning experience for him.

I was watching intermittently as I did not want to see the outcome that is unfolding. I was worried about Beau taking so long just to get mating down and he still hasn't even become more than a novice at it so taking on full incubation responsibilities would've been tough. I agree so much with your description Lady Hawk. We all wanted Beau to succeed here but sadly this may be not the season for Gabby and him to make it work. Gabby cannot incubate the egg alone and if Beau is burying her precious egg this will be heartbreaking to watch. I will keep my distance here respectfully till this plays out as I won't be able to watch responsible Gabby fail due to no fault of her own. No young Eagle could ever be worse in maturing as Akecheta though with Thunder. I don't think Beau (V3) will ever be worse than that but it might be next year that he's ready to understand his role. Praying for sweet Gabby that she can accept another season without a family💔❤️🙏🦅. Thanks for the coverage LH only wish it was better circumstances for NEFL. Still hope though. SEDs🌙🌚💜

@@melmasi5098 - Thank you. Oh yes I watched with such disappointment as Akecheta failed Thunder so I always refer to him now when I see something similar. Akecheta came around though and Beau will too but unfortunately Gabby has to wait for that which might be next season. We all wish these Eagle Dad's could be like M15. Have a great Christmas🎄

He had just figured it out and here comes the egg. If his hormones are typical compared to M15, he really needed a lot more mating activity time.😄His Creator knew, maybe that’s why he was always mating on the nest.

I was talking to someone in the livestream about how he mated with the nest again and they said that nest must be VERY fertile 🤣

I remember Tom (& Angel) being a new dad to the newly hatched RT hawks..The 1st one didn't fair well at all, but mom helped him understand...I'm so hoping the same for Beau & Gabby... He repeated this, later on, but, it was only a half effort. 😔 Whatever "mating" sounds they claim they heard off the cam, were definitely not Gabby and Beau on a branch! He is most likely younger than the 5-7 years they estimate. His plumage is more than likely, prematurely, mature looking! 🤷‍♀️ They'll get there, eventually, but, poor Gabby is suffering.😢 She can be bossy, quirky, flighty, etc., but she didn't deserve the problems that came her way. God bless you, Gabrielle! 🙏❤ I like Beau, but right now, my heart goes out to Gabby. Eagles have excellent eyesight... I have to believe she sees the egg through the moss and that's why she landed on it. I'm ecstatic he finally figured out the mating part. Just hope he starts bring her food. If they're still mating, maybe there will be more eggs.

Gabby is up and away this morning without looking for the egg. At this point it hasn't been rolled in many hours and I think we're going to end up with a nonviable egg. I'm hoping Gabby doesn't lay a second egg because Beau just isn't ready for the role of daddy Eagle at least not this season.

@@elias3506 Unfortunately that's nature. Gabby picked a young inexperienced male. It's not his fault. We will just have to let it play out. As of right now there is no live baby in that egg. If Gabby doesn't roll the egg then the yolk will stick to the inside of the egg and there won't be a baby.

This is possibly becoming a sad tale. Thank you Lady Hawk for your thorough explanation of these events. ❤️ Beau imho just doesn’t get it and seems lost in the dark about mating the proper way. Gabby has the experience but right now she is perplexed, “where did our egg go?” I fear the egg won’t be found in time. Meanwhile Beau is mating with the nest! 🙄

Mating with the nest is perhaps one behavior we will hopefully look back on and laugh about!! He certainly seems to enjoy himself 🙄 - maybe now with Gabby laying egg #2 he will feel some hormonal push to try and incubate the new egg and not bury it!!

@ladyhawk I’m confused. I don’t won’t to come off as rude to anyone but some things I don’t understand. I understand Beau is young and inexperienced but I don’t understand why Gabby isn’t looking harder for the Egg? Does Eagles smell? Doesn’t she have any instinct that her Egg is buried? #ladyhawk thank you so much for explaining different things to us. Your outlook on things are always so encouraging so thank you again.

I do hope Beau gets with his hormones but it's not his fault for not knowing exactly what to do yet. Hopefully it won't be a total loss for Gabby this year. If they could end up hatching just the one egg it will be a miracle in the making. I hope he is at least bringing her food gifts to sustain her. Maybe if we are lucky they could have a 2nd clutch that would make it but I'm not counting on it! Poor both of them! Could the egg not be his and he knows it? I mean he only got it right 2x i think? And Gabby had mated with another when he was gone? I hope I'm not getting nests mixed up.

Hi Jomama exactly! It is not his fault for not knowing what to do! Raptors learn through trial and error on many things - when they fledge they have to learn how to hunt and fish. Watching other eagles and attempting to do the same is a learning curve for them. So the same principle applies here - if he gets to see her rolling the egg and incubating and getting up expecting him to take his turn - that would be a huge step forward. Beau should bring a fish gift to the nest while she is incubating - that will be greatly received by Gabby. Yes you have it right - the egg might not be his - there was a mating with another eagle that we saw on the nest - she could have mated with that other eagle (A1) off nest and he is the father. Or she could have mated off nest with Beau and then we saw two matings in the nest with him recently. I bet Gabby does not understand all these new things since she only knew Samson and how he was there as an active parent. ♥

As I watched yesterday this unfold I had my own theories on what was going on as others did as well. Your insight on the subject is much appreciated. Thank you for another great video

Hi Ondabebe - well they are just observations from what we see on the cam - only Beau knows what was going on in his mind when he say the egg and touched and then pulled up the moss and suddenly the egg disappeared! Funny how today their relationship was more like old times (without the egg). Gabby was so protective with it and vocalizing at him - I think he is still intimidated by her. 🙄 Let's hope that does not happen again with the new egg!!

Poor Gabby. I'm not surprised either, because he is just inexperienced & just doesn't know. They are smart & will learn. I saw the same with the Centerport nest last year. The eggs being nonviable because the new & inexperienced male didn't know about incubating.

If Gabby lays another egg l am guessing all hope of NE28 would be gone. I can’t imagine they would dig with a new egg risking it could roll down into the moss/fluff as well. @ladyhawk l love reading your narratives when you post a video. I wish everyone would.

In the video i saw yesterday, he still didn't get it right 😳😂..... he mated with himself while she just stood there and watched...( well at least he's trying)👏👏👏... i saw in another video, he did do it right, but she laid the egg couple days later... does it work that fast with eagles? is it possible she mated with a different eagle that we didn't see?

This is a real reality check ...things in the wild are totally unpredictable... Oh well.. Nature is nature

I think this situation is kinda like first time parents in humans too. I know Eagles are intelligent creatures and Gabby did pick Beau to be her partner and she has been patient with him too. I too hope that he gets the hint t on what to do as a first time dad and help Gabby out in incubating their egg and also when the next egg comes too. My prayers are with them too.🙏❤️🦅🦅🥚❌⭕️

Whoa Beau doing the swishy right over the egg it looked like or close to it. I guess being a parent for the 1st time can be difficult & confusing for some. I'm hoping that he will catch on sooner or later. This is really a true lesson about their lives. We are so use to everything going according to plan, so we assume everything will work out. LOL Beau doing the swishy! Yes he did it! You are right boomer that things can be confusing when all you have to rely on is hormones and instinct not intellect! But I do think that Beau and Gabby have a colorful history together and hopefully they will get in sync better. If Gabby lays a second egg it gives Beau another chance (assuming the first egg does not get dug up) ♥

Hi Greg, with delayed incubation the egg does not need to be rolled as often as when full incubation begins. The eggs should be rolled a quarter turn about every hour to 2 hours during the incubation period. The purpose of this roll is to make sure that the lighter yolk does not rise to the egg surface and the delicate blood vessels that cover the yolk touch and stick to the shell surface, killing the developing chick. Of course that is not an exact time period as eggs have been incubated by a parent for several hours without rolling them or the parent was off the eggs for several hours. It depends also on the ambient temperature outside because once full incubation begins the eggs need to be kept at an optimum temperature close to 105 degrees. If the egg is not rolled at all by tomorrow it will most likely become non viable :( We do not know that the egg was even fertilized to begin with - you don't know that until the egg fails to hatch.

A few questions @LadyHawk At first I was wondering if he had visual problems but that's clearly not the case since he's looking around and cleaning up the nest. Is it possible that Beau could instinctually know that it's not possible for that egg to be his and that's why maybe he accidentally covered it up? And maybe because of that is why he keeps wanting to mate when Gabby just wants to incubate? 🙏💜🙏

You could easily enlarge mixed case letters - writing all in caps is horrible to read for others, besides it means that you are yelling.

She kind of had to take him bc he wouldn’t leave and no other males wanted to stay. It’s not like she chose Beau. She had no choice. That nest is his little crib. He is obsessed with it

Really Beau? You might have just killed your chick before it hatched and you want to go again? I know this is normal for first time parents with a lack of hormones to tell them what to do but I think I might have jinxed it comparing Beau to Tom, though at least Tom's firstborn hatched before he killed it. Here's hopping Gabby can carry Beau to fatherhood whether he's ready or not.
