Advice from Graduating Medical Students to YOU Future Doctors | Beyond the Scope | ND MD

Welcome to the Beyond the Scope Podcast presented by ND MD. This podcast continues the mission of sharing the incredible stories and experiences of students, physicians, and healthcare professionals...but this time it's all about the things all those years of medical training doesn't prepare you for. Things that are beyond the scope of our practice. Whether it's navigating starting a family as a medical student or physician, or learning how to invest as a student, the goal is to bring on incredible guests who can guide you through those puzzling questions. Today we have two recently matched members of the Medical College of Georgia Class of 2022: Christian and Alexandra! Matching in general surgery and internal medicine respectively, they took the chance to reflect on their journey through the past 4 years of medical school and share some powerful stories and advice to those looking to go to begin medical training. Answering questions from their favorite memories, best study strategies, to even if medical school is worth it, this is a do not miss episode of the Beyond the Scope podcast celebrating the success of two future physicians!

Thank you so much to Christian and Alexandra for taking the time to share their stories. Literally two of the most kind and brilliant people I have ever met who were one of my first supporters when this channel got started. Could not be here without them cheering me on as a first, second, and now third year med student

Thank you Andy and both the guests, Christian and Alexandra. Im currently in med year 2 and I've been having the toughest time. Seeing the seniors speak about their time it really hit me hard. Motivated me to do my best and that its always gonna be worth it in the end. This was a very needed video for me and it was the perfect timing. They are both awesome and in a long time I'm looking forward for what the future brings and I'm very grateful. I came this far and I guess I wouldn't want to be anywhere else other than here. Thank you for reminding me that!!! KEEP DOING THIS AMAZING WORK ANDY!!! It keeps me a little bit sane =). Huge fan of the podcast series!

I watched or listened to most of the video. As one who has been through it all, I can say that this is the very best time of your educational careers. Enjoy! While "shadowing" before med. school may seem like a good idea (and perhaps for some people it is) there is a very real risk of closing the mind of the student prematurely. Every specialty and subspecialty has its negative aspects and shielding the student from these is a major mistake. I turned down multiple spontaneous medical and 3 surgical specialty offers because I had seen the negatives at a point in my schooling where I could understand those aspects and put them in perspective. Anyhow, congratulations and best wishes to you all from someone who has taught hundreds of interns, residents and fellows.
