Up until I discovered these series, I always felt there is smth wrong with me for always wanting to live undisturbed life somewhere far away from ever demanding/judging society etc. Thank you for showing that there are lots of like minded people, who werent afraid to show middle finger to scripted life!! We had just gotten our first television/satellite hook up, and it was the only thing I watched, including the time there was a back-to-back marathon of all the episodes after the series ended, when I abandoned my family for it. I remember Inca, and Ron hassling Ben for entertainment, and the awful Christian fundamentalist mother who thought other women should watch her two year old all day every day at the school, which was conceived as a school and not a day care center for a single toddler, so she rounded up the rest of her family and left the island in a snit, and the gorgeous island when it was sunny, and the organic toilets and the closet where people came up and talked to the video camera, and the happy little guy with glasses, and lots more, but it's over two decades ago. I searched for the dvd of all the episodes but apparently there is no such thing. Thanks for the memories!

Such an inspirational video. Thank you Ben. I'm currently reading the Castaway 2000 book which is a catalogue of gripes and moans. Its nice to know that there was so much more positivity associated with the experience than comes across in the book. So pleased that it was such a great starting point for all your adventures.

Loved Castaway, just rewatched the series on KZread. It was so unlike anything we had seen before. You were brave souls to undertake this.

A long time since the last message and even longer since the original programme. I did watch this when Castaway was first on television, but had forgotten many of the details, now however my thoughts are that there were a number of characters who were intentionally selected so there would be animosity and disruption from the start, also there were some who started with good intentions but had not a clue what the conditions would be. still a dream for many.

I feel for the kids being abused by parents who had school as an escape

I like this guy but he has lead the most priviledged life he is hard to relate to.. I mean have you heard his kids name.. come on! nice guy but unrelatable for most
