Sadly, I had to sell this bike to fund the purchase of the Tuareg 660 for the channel. I LOVED the bike, but as a content creator, it doesn't make sense for me to keep a bike long term. To bad you didn’t let your viewers know you were selling it. I know I would have made a offer on it. In fact I asked on your first video about this bike if you were selling it 🍻
Best motorcycle reviewer on the planet
Love your commitment to raising the bar on each single vid. The fact that you buy the bikes and accesories just for making the best informed review says it all.
I can't believe how clean that bike is.
Yep, still the best motorcycle reviewer out there! Time and time again you prove it to us all. Keep spoiling us with great content please🤗
Nice! Perfect timing as I’m waiting on my first adventure bike. Thanks
Thanks! Excellent reviews; glad to support you.
I keep watching your Triumph Tiger videos over and over again because I can't get enough of the sound from those bikes.
What an awesomely moded bike!!
Super great informational video. Thank you.
Great video! I have similar setup. Took off passenger pegs and mounts as well as the grab horns on the rear plate. Went to one tooth smaller on the countershaft as bike needed some more low end for serious off-road. Also when I wired the Zumo XT I also wired for the Voyager Pro for better off-road tracking. The easy pull clutch mod helped when doing hours of serious single track. Liked your GPS mount better than mine. I took off Cat and went with full Ti Arrow exhaust and put in spark arrestor. Sound is pretty good. Also did the Rotwieler air box mod. Makes cleaning the filter much less invasive! Definitely one of my new favorite channels! Merry Christmas!

awesome bike, thanks for sharing
Enjoying your content Ian, your reviews are consistently thorough. Having owned the T7 for 8mths and it being a great bike, i just didn't like the top heaviness and the fact i would need to pour money into the suspension to get the performance i was after. I was considering the 19+ 690 prior to the T7 purchase, and since your recent review on the 690 with the modifications i was certain this was the ticket. I was lucky enough to get a test ride the other day of a 22 690, however it was only a pavement ride. Felt light and responsive but it reminded me more of a 500 than an actual adventure bike, perched up high, not much of a seat etc. A good friend of mine who organised the test ride was there with his 890 Adventure Rally and insisted i have a quick ride. Everything about it was impressive, the thing is a total weapon, he has the Rottweiler full carbon airbox intake and it just rips. Here in Australia that bike costs 36K which is out of the question but it led me to a bike i was considering prior to the T7 purchase, being the 790 Adventure R. I was put off mainly by reports of reliability problems but seeing as i am mechanically competent i have no doubt i can overcome most problems (unless they are electrical!). Off to purchase a decent example tomorrow, hoping this is the ONE.

I have the Duke 690. It has all the comfort that the Enduro is missing but, sadly, without the long travel suspension. I have been thinking of modifying it with new forks and springs because the KTM performs so much better than the T7.

@@toddsorel5761 i pulled out of buying the 790, the reliability issues were nagging me, especially camshaft wear. Such a disappointment, best design. Back to my 690 plan, at least the dirt performance will be better. Getting it to how i want it though will be costly!
Great bike . Love mine . You def have to try the decat again. The 890 with decat , Rottweiler intake , and PCV tuner takes it to another level.
Thanks for this awesome review Ian, detailed, full of knowledge and real world balanced point of view. After 4 seasons on my 790 Adv R and she never missed a beat, no significant issues it was a no brainer to me to trade her for a 2023 KTM 890 Adv R that i'm really happy to already have had my first ride on this season. Only bike i considered was the AJP PR7, since i really liked that bike as well at a good test ride. But this platform is so much more allround and more comfortable for what i do. You have got yourself a really nice bike! My dealer held a 890 Rally for me when the where released but i passed on it because i'm more than happy enough with the R Xplor suspension (and height of bike). The Rally have really good value though when looking on the parts added/chosen on it. Great channel and definitely a sub!

but he said the damper "dampened" the steering, lol. Or maybe he said 'dampens'. I'm no english major, still can figure out lay/lie/lied/layed, etc. It's all good, but he's correct about a steering damper.
Neat tank bag. The KTM Adventure I really like. Spoken as a former 950 man.
I appreciate your reviews on products and bikes. Please keep changing things out! If I ever did a video review, it would be about the same bike and kit I’ve owned for the last decade. People would move on and sponsors wouldn’t support me. P.S. I appreciate the links and use them often even if I can only browse with the rare purchase.
Really hoping for the VERSYS X review! Great job Ian
Awesome Bike.
I like that awesome bike in your last video much better.
You were very positive regarding the KTM 390 adventure as a combination street and light off-road. The one bike you have not reviewed is the kawasaki versys x 300 as an alternative.
Give the CRG arrow mirrors a go some time Ian. With Rottweiler mounts to the bark busters there’s zero vibration, great visibility & it cleans up the airflow. Found them a step up again from the ubiquitous double takes & much lighter too.

WOW 140k subs, you really popped off. I remember when you had under 30k subs, thinking that was alot for you lol
pretty standard adventurized setup, looks great, though its supsiciously perfect and clean! 😂😂👍👍
FYI, my son 3D printed me a great three sided weather/sunshade cover for the Garmin zumo XT that installs on its waterproof mount. On my CB500X the back of the mount is close to windscreen and the cover prevents releasing the zumo XT by reaching behind it. The bonus was it acts like a security lock. To release the GPS, I insert a long screwdriver through the windshield slot and push up the release. If your interested, I'll have him print you a cover, and I'll mail it to your PO box. The cost of the material in negligible, so if you like the cover and the work on your bikes, I'll have him print three more and send them to you.
Would really like your input on riding two up. I find that they're are plenty of reviews riding solo, but very few riding two. I never leave home without my better half. Thanks!
You missed the BRP mount. Also I love your choice of tires. I've got those on my Yamaha t7. And I had the BRP mount on my 690. And my EXC 500.

Great stuff as always! Did you get rid of the stock steering damper or just add the Scott? I recently switched from the Reckless 80 to the Enduristan Monsoon EVO. I just found the R80 side pockets to difficult to pack well. Wider overall, but so much easier to use. Cheers
Nice clip Ian. Did you tryed the decat in conjunction with the silencer(the is absent) on the muffler? For me that combo works best, the bike breathe better, your rear shock will thank you for not getting all that heat and also another bonus is that you can legitimately put an F Greta sticker on your bike. 😉
Great review. I despise a cable clutch.
😂 Ian, oops! Cracking me up, messing up right after your lesson. *Damps* the steering, man! Dampers damp, dampeners dampen. Awesomely tricked out machine, man. Take care!

So which is the best solution for the windshield? On your 790 you seem to have settled on the Puig Touring screen, but now on the rally you are using the spoiler with the stock screen. I just got an 890 Adventure R and am loving it, but need to do something about the windshield asap. Thanks for all you great, detailed content!
Really enjoy your videos Ian, keep them coming. I would like to get the new KTM 890 r, but i have two friends who have had serious problems with soft cams and valves on there 790 and 890s. One had to rebuild it after only 16,000kms. It's got me a little scared to go ahead with the purchase. How many 790s and 890s are experiencing the problem?
Hello, always doing fantastic reviews, is it possible to review the Benelli TRK 702X and 502X
Ian, great review and very useful even to a mainly road rider with a non R 890. A few questions if I may. You mentioned lower foot pegs. I’m sold my 1200 GSA LC which had pretty much the perfect riding position for me. It had other less than ideal issues. The ATAS that replaced it whilst better in some ways put my feet higher and more forward. The 890 is somewhere in between. How does your Rally compare to the GSA? I feel that standing puts me higher than the GSA but much lower tank may alter the perception but also that the bars seem a lot lower needing me to lean back with more leg bend. Thanks as always, Ian (from a very cold UK)

in terms of off road/long road distances , which bike do you think is better? KTM 890 or norden 901?
Are we ever getting a video covering your Colorado BDR?
Good to hear about the cat, confirms my choice. Thinking about the possibility of drops/crashes, so you think the axp skid plate is sufficient, or should one add (lower) crash bars and/or aluminium radiator grille too? Cheers and thanks.
@BigRockMoto

Yes on radiator grille. No on crash bars - bike is better off without them. The lower tank is super tough as well as the skid plate
Hey when you installed the Flex bars did you run into fitment issues? I am noticing that bar impedes on the master cylinder when you tighten it down
I have a Rally as well . Did you run the tubeless type or tubed type dual venture on the front ?
Off topic, do you believe a 1999-2009 DR650 is more reliable than the same years KLR650, plus better off-road, so all I'd need is to upgrade to a larger tank for the Suzuki? So i should look for a DR over a KLR?

In regards to the installation of the Scotts damper, did you remove the stock unit or is it double dampened? It is interesting that you felt there was a need to add flex bars given the XPLOR Pro forks on this bike. Could you not dial out the harshness that I assume was the basis for the flex bars?

How much did you spend on aftermarket parts?
I'm about to put a deposit on an 890. I can secure either the 890R or the 890. The difference of $1500 is not an issue for me. If i'm going to be using this bike primarily for highway riding and fire roads, should I just get the 890 base model since it has a taller windscreen and a lower seat height? Comparing any GS to the 890r is like apples to oranges. Totally way two different machines. And yes there’s some things you call unreliable on a ktm but if you learn about your bike in those regards, you’d figure out that Rottweiler has many work arounds for things than can be viewed as unreliability such as the kickstand dongle etc. I’ve had my 21’ 890 r on some serious deep bc off-road forays that put me in areas with zero ability to rely on outside help. It’s never let me down yet, and I can definitely say (at least for my level) that I wouldn’t want or be able to tackle the terrain I’ve encountered on any GS etc. my two cents.
