You are “Her Two Wheels”, a motorcyclist that we all admire! Just remember Jess, off road, speed is your friend, to a limit of course. As long as you see the line where you want to go and not where you are right now. It’s hard to explain, but you’ll find it over time as your confidence grows. ride safe Jess and keep on riding your Himalayan! 😊

Ride your ride dear. Ride what feels safe. Go slow. Baby steps. If you only go 10 feet down a gravel road and turn around go 11 feet the next time. There’s a hole other world on gravel roads.

Jen, always allow fear to make you cautious and careful, but never allow fear to tell you that you can’t do something. Fear used in the correct way will make you better, make you observant, make you make wise decisions, allow you to sit back for a moment and watch someone else with more experience and learn how they do it. You can learn what will work for you and what won’t work for you. Life is about learning and overcoming, saying yes or saying no, sometimes you will see a safer route. Never think you can not ask questions, sometimes the route you think looks safer has hidden dangers, things you will not know about without asking or heaven forbid finding on your own. Life is a journey that when we face our fears, we grow in safety, accomplishment, experience, satisfaction, and a little bit of self pride that says I faced my fears and did it. Once you have done it no one can take that away from you. Never be scared of fears, even though people don’t talk about them, everyone has fears. Facing fears makes us grow inside, they make us more understanding and helpful to others, because we want them to overcome their fears. We want others to live their best life. Don’t let fear stop you from living your best life, just slow down and make the best decisions and live life to the fullest. Fear stops us from seeing and experiencing to much in life, when we allow it to. Have a blessed day.

If you get a chance to ride a 125cc dirt bike like a Yamaha TTR125, definitely do it. You will learn so quickly on a little bike. Anything bigger will dramatically slow your learning progress and confidence. . Both my daughters learned on a PW50, then an XR70, then an XR100, then a TTR125, starting when they were 7 and 11. Today they can ride over terrain that most of today’s male ADV riders would balk at. They key was they started on small bikes.

I have the same Pine Green 2022 Himalayan. It's a fine machine. And I have the GIVI engine guards along with some other things to keep the bike safe. It's been down once on a rough Jeep trail and sustained no damage. It's a real tractor through the rough stuff. And it's low slung weight, relatively low seat, and a throttle you don't have to worry that a misstep will raise the front tire or break the back tire loose. It will be fun. Good luck with wading into the world without pavement.

They're completely different ways of riding. I'm sure with your skills you've learned and the mods, you and the bike will be safe.

58 years old, riding since I was 12 and started off road. Completely uncomfortable riding my Himalayan off road now. In my country we are surrounded by forest tracks and gravel roads, I'm just slowly trying a little bit of gravel or dirt each time I'm out, but I'm really nervous. Maybe it's because older bones break more easily🤷‍♂️ don't be hard on yourself, you have been on some training courses and are taking it slowly, that's the right way, your treating the situation with respect which is better than being over confident 👍😎..... My advice is to start with basic skills. The more confident you are with basic skills the easier it is to build on them. Find a field, do all the same things you would do in parking lot practice, only stand up. Remember to lean the bike, not your body. Stay loose, let the motorcycle move under you. Building confidence is all about doing things successfully over and over again until it feels like it's effortless. Then you try something new, and practice that until it feels effortless while taking the time to do the other things to keep those skills sharp. That is a good bike to learn on, they are built like tanks and easy to repair. Don't be afraid to drop it. Dropping is part of motorcycles and no more so than riding offroad. Accespt the fact that you will drop it. You can work your way through the fear by taking it out in the yard and laying it down, pick it up back, two or three times until you're comfortable with picking it back up. There are only two fears when it comes to dropping, not being able to pick it up is one. The second is breaking something on the motorcycle, it's your property you are allowed to break things. 😉

@@roamer7129 It doesn’t matter what bike you ride basic skills apply. If you don’t work on your basic skills off roading a motorcycle is going to be hard because you’re doing so many things wrong making it harder for yourself. Not learning basic skills is the worst thing you can do to yourself. You have to learn how to stand, how to move with the machine, how to not-grip, and relearn how to lean because you don’t do it the same way on dirt. The Royal Enfield might like to slow roll but you still need those skills or you’ll spend more time picking the bike up than riding it.

That’s a cool looking little bike. I’m sure she won’t let you down riding off road. Yesterday trail riding on 4 wheelers with my sons, was something that I have never really done much of and was not comfortable for awhile, but they kept telling me, “ you have to get out of your comfort zone.” Even though I got tired of hearing them say that, they really were correct. By the end of the day I was riding a lot better than at the beginning. I told them, I still prefer two wheels and blacktop, but could ride with them sometimes.

Mentioned it at Jordan's channel as well, but the Himalayan does look so much more nice and beefed up ready to ride wherever! Happy to hear that you strive to be a better rider on this bike as well on the other bikes you own. And even you want to ride off road with more adventures on there and be able to stumble upon undiscovered sights and roads! Oh and being honest with yourself and even us, is a great way to get over the fear you have and acknowledge to get the confidence in doing so! You've got this! I as well would like to learn off road riding. But i'd go with paved roads first since that's the decision I made with finding my first ever bike. It's 2008 Kawasaki Z750 quite common here in the EU. Highly popular as well. Nice naked bike with an upright seating position.

My advice, NEVER try to catch your bike. I came off my old KLR, rolled and it hurt, but I was ok. Had help getting back on, on the side of a rut. Couldn't reach the ground and tried to hold it. It pulled me down , broke a rib, and hurt my foot at a standstill. If I stepped out from the fall, I would have been fine. The bike was fine, I rode it a long way home in pain. The RE with all the crash stuff will be fine. Never worry about the bike.

Thank you for making me feel more comfortable about being apprehensive about going " off road" i have my reservations as well but i think you said it best. We have seen most of what you do (from a long time subscriber perspective) and while it is still interesting, it is for some of us as you said before in another video, background entertainment. I’m a big fan of yours. You keep the channel mostly light and do not stray into politics. Thank you for the journey and keep it up! Hope this helps. I definitely recommend dirt roads. Not necessarily gravel but just easy getting used to feeling the uneven surface. I hear you about gravel roads. I had to suck it up on my street bike because my church is down an 1/8 mile packed gravel driveway complete with uphill and a 90+ degree sweeping turn 🙀. It forced me to get used to it before I would have preferred but I’m so thankful since it has now given me confidence.

I haven't been riding consistently for many years. And I'm currently trying to get back into riding. But the last time many years ago when I rode consistently, I wound up dropping my dad's bike while being at a stop. I wound up damaging the forks in the process of trying to lift the bike back up. It was a heavy bike, and I wound up warping the forks due to the bike's weight while lifting the bike back up. Anyway, after that incident happened, I was super insecure about riding again. And now I'm in another state and had to get my endorsement here in Florida so I could ride again. But just doing a rider course for the endorsement helped me to realize that I have the ability and that my fears of riding haven't been justified.

My riding experience is just the opposite of yours. I started on dirt bikes, when I got a road bike I had the same feelings you have about going off road. As the old saying goes, ride your own ride. You’ll get more comfortable the more miles you do. I had a 20 mile loop I would do, then I went up to about a 40. Did about 250 this past Saturday. Absolutely loved the ride, some parts of the highways made me nervous. I assume no one likes groves pavement. Got a longer ride already planned.

Firstly I would just like to say, well done! First step is owning the fear, next step is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. As a 59 year old biker that still rides a big dirt bike (Suzuki DR 650) & started at the tender age of 15 I can assure you just like your other riding this will slowly become more natural for you. Do some training, it will confirm for you that the skills are quite achievable but you know that. Then just get the protective gear on you and stop worrying about the bike, it is replaceable and consumable, you are not. Then ride, start small and build up. No one does an iron butt in the dirt. Start on the gravel where the grip is higher but still allows for a small amount of sliding and get comfortable with it. Then tackle the dirt starting with dry dirt before taking on the wet dirt/slippery mud. Don't be afraid to start slow each time you change surface type. I know it is a cliché but you need to ride your own ride, don't expect to be doing 60 on the gravel straight away. Once you have the skills and the confidence that is very doable but no one starts there. Lastly try to ride with someone else (husband or join a club) as that way if ANYTHING goes wrong there is always someone there to help you. Good luck, you got this :)

Hey Jess, I think you could benefit by how I learned as a beginner how to ride a dirt bike (YZ250). I found myself some trails and logging roads back in the woods with a mixture of terrain where I could go at my own pace and speed and just rode. After the first half hour of total crazy nerves I was having so much fun my nervousness was gone and I was actually starting to anticipate the terrain without even thinking about it compared to when I started. I stalled the bike a few times and almost dumped it, but it worked for me. I'm one of those people who has to do in order to learn some things. When I was done I was able to ride with others and had no more worries about it. Maybe it would work for you too. Go find yourself some trails and just ride. Peace

Don’t let anything pressure you to ride where you’re not comfortable. The tricks to gravel is to avoid front brake and have bigger tires. My Honda 700 was terrifying in gravel but my victory Vegas is fine. When the bike wiggles just don’t panic just ride thru by keeping the front straight. You will go where you look. Good luck. Confidence comes with practice. It’s still early in the year.

We all have our own comfort zone when riding our motorcycles. Fortunately, you have Jordan (who did a great job) to help you expand that comfort zone by the adding the extra protection and accessories to the bike. Soon, "Her Two Wheels" will have no problems conquering any terrain she comes across.

these are the advantages of growing up in the country, on gravel roads and woods trails. I'm lucky to have had that. You're fine and if you focus on having fun, the rest will come naturally. If I had a RE scram or Himmy, I'd ride it hard as hell. They tell a story and you want people to know it's yours. My bikes were always dirty.

Finally got out of Cleveland. Sleeping at flag rock campground in Norton Virginia on 6. 19. That is the route number. Sure hope you and your husband get to check out this campground. It's excellent your Himalayan will blow bleed roads and your husband's sportster will love these roads. And don't forget to check out the front porch in Fort blackham or Virginia. Some of the best food in the county

I ride my Street Glide and now my Victory cross country tour on the lawn and through a two foot deep ditch quite often. I love going to Sturgis and know I will be in some hay fields there. Keeps me being used to grass and not afraid. Panic is what makes you fall I think. When you panic you quit thinking. Just my opinion.

I have spent the past Wednesday and Thursday all day installing new handlebars for my harley and I've been having such a fun time learning these new things about my bike. Tho I get why not everyone would enjoy such a thing I think it's recommended to at least give it a try and have someone knowledgable helping you.

It’s interesting your thoughts about it. I just got to finally ride the himalayan and with how cheap that bike is I would have done what you did put some crash protection and ride the crap out of it. I rode BMX and Mountain bikes growing up so crashing and falling while it scares me on a motorcycle hasn’t giving me fear you have. I would say start in a grassy field and work you way up to it.

Jess, I can understand that, I took my Road King down a loose hard gravel road to the local rc airport, I was wow this sucks! I mean it isn't the heaviest of big bikes, but it isn't a dirt bike. Just remember it is only as good as your confidence, I hated dirtbike track ruts for instance. I rode enduro style instead, trail rides going over logs and rocks and such, dodging trees going through the woods. I landed a great jump on a 1972 Yamaha 100, on my face with an open face helmet, twisted the forks had a few scuffs on the mug. I picked the bike up straightened the forks and kept riding. I guess my point is shit happens, off road is a bit different and is where I started. Yeah dirt bikes put me in the hospital a couple of times, but like you, I love being on a bike and do what I can to ride as much as I can while I can. I've had 10-12 back operations, most of them being fusions in my lower back and neck, but I put as many miles on as I can even in Dallas traffic. I can't do your distance rides, I will be in Milwaukee this summer and I hope I run into you guys!

Your concerns are understandable. Royal enfield is NOT sending replacement parts to America so that warranty is not worth the paper its printed on. I have that exact same bike. Color and all. And i have SERIOUS buyers remorse. Its a fun beginner bike. But if you break it, its over.

Hay Jess it is more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. The best way to learn to ride in the dirt is to ride in the dirt. You will do just fine. Don't be afraid of dropping the bike that is all part of the game. Just make sure you wear all the proper protection for your self. Good off road motorcycle boots are a must. I know walking in them is like walking in ski boots but they will save your feet, ankles and legs. carry a pair of deck shoes or flip flops for when you are in camp. Dropping the bike is just part of the fun of ridding in the dirt.

IIt's ok. Consider getting a small dirt bike that's light. Get used to the traction you get with great knobbies. It's more than you think. Even with ADV type tires. It's not like you're on oil. But you just need to ride and get used to it and it is all about seat time. Once you get more time in, you'll get more comfortable and it will transform your riding, both on road and off. Not that you'll be backing it in on your Appa, but if you come across a sandy patch in the road or a dirt parking lot, it'll help Don't let indecision on the upgrades hold you back. I let that happen with some crash bars on my Ducati. And last fall, had those bars been installed, I wouldn't have broken my foot. Don't make hasty decisions, but don't let indecision paralyze you. I'm happy to see you stepping outside of your norm and working on expanding your skill set. You're gonna enjoy the new roads that open up to you. But we knew that seeing you ride the Pan America a year or so back and such. I wish more riders were as open minded about the kind of riding they do and the bikes they ride. I have a Road King. I love it. I rode for 25 years or so before I ever bought a cruiser and the RK is the only one I own. But I also have a dirt bike, a dual sport, a mid size GS, a Ducati Multistrada and a 90s touring BMW. I love em all. Yeah, I have an addiction problem. I call my F800GS my Swiss Army Bike. That Himma is your Swiss Army Bike. All those bars... you can mount cameras everywhere! BTW, I'd mount that lone rider bag you have on the side bag on the front. You don't want to make the bike fat. It'll be easier to slip through narrow areas if it's skinny. Also, make the widest point on the bike the handle bars. It'll be easier to gauge if you can fit through. Enjoy!

I am done keeping bikes I dont ride just to say I have 5 bikes. if your not comfortable riding off road, dont do it.....why ride if your not having fun. so no, no one is going to make fun of you for not doing it. especially you came upfront and admitted it. stay safe.

You have the skills / confidence to ride a big ass bagger, solo trips in all weather and have taken pro level off road course with the HD Pan Am. You got this. That bike is super capable, very forgiving, you can lug it down and slowly traverse most anything. Great platform to acquire dirt road skills on. Perfect to strap camping/ fishing gear on. Find the closest to you dirt road and take small bites of the elephant- 1 dirt road a day/ every day. Add it to your eating better/ workout routine and by the end of summer you will be unstoppable. I am on the same journey trying to get back in to shape for desert racing my 690KTM/ fire breathing dragon. Will be 61 on the 20th doesn't help either. But I'm too stubborn/ stupid to quit. My commuter is a first gen KLR650. I sat on a pan am last week, way too big/ tall for me by over 4 inches, seat came to my belly button, super top heavy, felt more like a street bike than a dirt bike.
