Adventure and Tragedy on the Geels Trail (Roscommon, MI)

In June 2021 my son and I spent the day riding the Geels ORV trail system in Roscommon, Michigan. We had perfect weather and only saw one other person on the trail the entire day. The day was excellent, that is, until it ended with a tragedy.

Michigan DNR are out enforce during the summer months and hunting seasons. Be sure your legal. Helmets; License/Permits; Spark Arrestor is a must have; Lights on; Definitely Stop at Stop Signs. There is a LEGAL STREET to travel on through Roscommon. Stay off of Federal Highway and State 18, State 76 unless your offroad vehicle is Michigan Titled, License & Insured. Obey the ORV Speed Limit, I think its 25mph but double check the signage. Roscommon County Sheriff Dept is located on South State 18

Yes, that trail was a lot of fun, even though we had a bit of a "glitch" at the end. We've never lived in K-zoo or the west side of the state. We live on the east side about an hour north of Detroit.

Wow! That was a pretty lousy ending to what should have been a pretty cool day. Huge bummer.

Yes it was but Mike already got the motor disassembled and dropped it off at a local powersports store to have them bore out the cylinder. He will then put in the new piston; it will be running again soon. It was nothing short of a miracle that it died right at the road crossing. That was a God moment!

Heart breaking... Just curious, what app are you using? Planning to head up there for a similar ride soon.

It was an unexpected end to our awesome afternoon, but it all worked out ok, and within a week or so he already had it disassembled, bored out and rebuilt... now we're ready to take on the trails again. We were using the Polaris Ride Command app. It worked very well. I don’t know if you have an iPhone or Android phone. I assume you can get it for either platform but this is the link for the Android version: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.weathernation.mobile.orvtrails Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Enjoy your ride!

The hose supplying the oil was old and broke off. And yes, the dirtbike and the 4-wheeler have spark arresters.

Iv'e been riding those trails since 1972. Even a few years ago with my wife on our 50" Polaris trail width 4x4 razor 900 side by side. But Nobody rides 2 strokers any more!. Guys, those things your riding are just way to old man. It's a wonder the 2 wheel drive quad took a crap where it did, or you all be screwed in the middle of nowhere!..
