I bought a trap like this to trap a starving kitty that I saw around my apartment building one winter. I never got to use it though since someone had let the cat into our building one night and I managed to catch her after hearing her meowing loudly next to our dryer. I still have the kitty 14 years later ^_^ And I gave the trap to the local animal shelter which didn't have one.

I have this same trap and I've had it for a long time, I've caught plenty of opossums and raccoons with it on my homes property to relocate them and it works very good. The only downside about it is that the little hook mechanism that attaches to the door can become rusted up over time and it makes it harder for the trap to be engaged when an animal steps on the plate and sometimes they can eat the food without setting it off,to fix it I just spray a little bit of Teflon based lube and sand off the rough surface rust and it seems to help a lot.

Hi; so do you set the bait behind the plate or like MousetrapGenius does it in this vid? Oh and has the trap help up well these past 6 years? Thanks

  • @maddiesgamingchannel8163

@@KingdomUploader I got a different type after this one. It’s a quick set trap that you pull a little lever on the top to set it. The trap I had before from this video was the same maker, but it was a little smaller. It got a bit mangled up when a big raccoon got trapped in it. It broke a few welds and managed to get out, so I welded it back together and then gave it to my dad. It wasn’t that good for trapping raccoons, because they were able to put their hand through the bigger holes on the top and pull the trip bar that goes down the side, and let themselves out. With any trap, they seem to be the best escape artists by finding the latch mechanism and releasing it somehow.

@@maddiesgamingchannel8163 So far I haven't seen racoons here; i'm focused on catching possums and squirrels, so hopefully they won't be as aggressive :) I was under the impression that I'd need the 32" long one for possums and for your coons but you say you bought a smaller Advantek brand trap? The 24" one? Thanks!

My cat is scared and has been hiding from me and I purchased one of these traps to catch him so I can keep him in the downstairs rooms away from workmen and noise of drills, hammers, etc. I tried it last night, but my cat was able to eat the food without stepping on the trip plate. Should I put the food in a shallower dish? Any suggestions will be helpful.

WHOO HOO!!! Thank you for this. A cat got under my (very old) house and managed to damage my ductwork, then crawl into my home via my vents. When you don't have 4-legged animals but see one wandering through your home, that's terrifying! Humane Society not only got it out (after three days and many anxious nights as it kept trying to come through our vents; I have a young child who is EXTREMELY allergic to cats), they gave me a couple of traps since my town is overflowing w/ stray cats. Can't wait to start catching those suckers!

Oh, and the HS guy put both wet food and tuna fish at the very back of the cage. I came home to find both emptied and no cat. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! :)
