Relaxing, except for when you watch a man totally covered in vaseline hold up a vintage U47.

Goosebumps the whole way through. There is something transcendental about this, maybe the background music, the vaseline... I don´t know. All I know is that I feel like our souls just connected on a very deep level. Love you Mac

Being that mac is extremely technical with recording. He is waiting to think about what he wants to say first.
Getting rid of all the vaseline after the shoot must have been hell on earth. I salute the dedication. Mac forever.
the vaseline, while seemingly playful at first glance, actually serves as a medium through which the audio can circumvent through, ultimately rendering the person wearing said vaseline in a position of complete submersion of sound. It's actually common place for audio producers to grapple with facial eczema as a result of covering their face with it day in and day out. Everybody that has so much as their left pinkie in the music production world knows this. The more you know though. FYI, there's a famous saying that's common in production circles that goes: engineering audio without an inch-thick vaseline mask is like trying to dance with iceskates on your feet (it can't be done).

Glad someone isn’t letting the analog art die. These digital producers will never have to know about budgeting 55 gallon drums of Vaseline into your studio bill and the funny looks you get when using it as a business write off.

He's sluggin! Not intentionally but if you have super dry skin you cover yourself in vaseline. It hydrates.

Yes, there is a very valuable middle ground that everyone is missing.
You don't see many engineers using acoustic jelly anymore, but it makes a huge difference when recording especially, and is a sure sign of a true craftsman
Surprised at the lack of presence in the 44B, I can see why the SM7B gets used so much in broadcasting, my favourite was the Lomo 19a9 as its focus and clarity was immediate. The host did a great job here, look forward to more demos.

@Reg Rock I dislike the 44B the most. It sounds so dull. Lots of low mid. Lack of high mid and high. I agree with you that the Lomo 19A9 has the best clarity and focus.

Yeah, you tend to get that with Ribbon mics. Not a lot of high end, but the 44b does sound very warm and intimate.

gotta realize too that using the same preamp at the same gain level for all these mics is not going to showcase their abilities fully...a V76 has a standard impedance of 600ohms, and while that might be dandy for a dynamic mic, the RCA ribbon wants to see something many times higher than that to really shine...but i understand the point here is not a scientific shootout.

hello psycho, how are you? No uploads for 2 months. I hope you're doing great
This is probably the first time I've ever been so crystal clear about something while being fascinatingly confused at the same time.
Thank you Mac for making these advanced techniques available to the public for free. My recordings have improved tremendously since adding them to my repertoire.
am I the only one who finds this really relaxing?
I have been praying for a new episode!
When you’re trying to reach the 8 min mark, but don’t have enough content
This is the kind of content I'm looking for 24/7. And Mac provides about 28% of it. Bless him.

Learning so much from this channel. a blessing. really made me transcend.
And that is the sweet voice I needed to hear! I've never heard it before but I called out to the universe and provisions were made. Thanks Mac
This made me very happy. Thank you. I REALLY hope that this is a piece of a series. Probably not. So I'm already sad.
This is the best microphone comparison i've ever seen, i could never figure out wich one would be the best for me, now i know, the Electro-Voice RE20 is perfet for what i do and for my voice pitch. Thanks Mac!!
Ive been waiting so long for this
Dude, you took something that is usually one of the most boring topics, and turned it into pure fun and laughter with to the point info. Great job! Plenty of "this seems a bit uncomfortable to look at you back this long" moments made me cry laughing. I'll be sharing this! LOL
I find these incredibly relaxing

Lomo 19a9 with rich mid frequencies was a real discovery for me!! Thank you very much!🎉🎉🎉❤
I've watched a bunch of his videos. This is the one that made me subscribe.
I'm just jealous of all the gear Mac has collected!
That large diaphragm Lomo 19A9 condenser microphone will definetly be my go to option from now on when i'm shopping for microphones, thanks!
Mic skills are through the roof now thanks!!
Definitely more advanced than most instructional videos. I suggest watching part 1 if you're just starting out as a Pro Studio Recording Engineer
I can imagine Cole having a blast editing this masterpiece
Wow very nice. Thank you Mac.
This man blesses my life with this kind of content, lmao. Anyone else notice a real high frequency buzzing through the video?
for real tho, the vibe made it so much easier for me to soak up all this solid ass information he's sharing, thanks yo
Had to setup some mics for an event recently. Used these exact words for testing. I think I always will...

Way faster than any other review I have ever watched!!!!! Ha thank you!!!
i have no clue about these things, but i gotta say it. it's actually insane how authentic and warm that older looking lomo 19a9 sounds. wtf
This made me feel all sorts of feelings
the last microphone was very impressive indeed , well rounded and bassy
has late night adult swim vibes. fw it so hard

Finally a tutorial in which I don't have to skip several minutes to find what I need
Not gonna lie, as weird as he gets these videos are greatly deep into his process. The mic tests at the latter half of this video are actually pretty informative.
This is so much more informative and better than produce like pro
Well that was a surreal experience
The Lomo combined with the RCA would probably be stellar
i am entranced watching this

I kinda doubt it but this one REALLY looks like he's tweaking out a bit and I very much appreciate that

The Lomo is sooooo good!
Man, that Lomo 👌🏻 best of the bunch. Even with their increase in price (due to a music history fact I'll mention next) theyre _still_ a bargain compared to that U47 or something like a C12 or 251. Fun fact; those were the main mics on Nirvana's _In Utero_ album. A pair of them were used as overheads on the drums and one of those two was the main vocal mic of three that were used on Kurt Cobain's vocals. The other two being the EV RE20 (also featured here) and a Sennheiser 421. The Lomo's capsule was positioned in between and just above the other two which flanked it. Steve Albini came out and confirmed this and sold them at auction.
Wow. That RCA is dark, man. Lomo was my fav. 57's never fail to impress me. So cheap, so consistently great
