Thanks for the great tutorial! My explanation with color intensity & gels: flash light is like white paint, the more white paint (flash) per color unit (gel), the more diluted the color 🙂

Hi Mike great video. Did you adjust your light power(s) between shots? It looked like one of the shots had more shadow on the left side of the face. Thanks.

I'm always seasoning to taste with power adjustments, distance adjustments, and the use of reflective and subtractive panels. Hope that helps ;-)

Great video, as always! On your picture at 11:35, I can see that there are two shadows - one behind the model, one on the floor - is that how you wanted it?

The cross shadows are from the accent lights. Full figures were really an afterthought but in any case no it doesn't bother me as in the studio vs location its less about replicating what happens in nature with respect to lighting.

Thanks. I believe you should demonstrate it in a live video, which could make more sense. It still very good explanation. Appreciated.

Michael ... I know you said you were new to gels, and curious about one thing. I find the banding on her neck at 3:19 distracting. Not sure if this was intentional, or not. I love the pose and the color wash.

It is a good idea to get used to diagrams in a standard format because it is the most effective way of describing the light configuration which you should be doing for your own work so you can repeat a look in the future. It is equivalent to the way an electronic engineer visualizes a circuit or a recording engineer would record micing setups. If you are doing a lot of different styles, this becomes invaluable for your own work or when communicating with an assistant.

That comes off as a little sarcastic. Not sure what his request is for, but if it is just to learn photography lots of folks could find videos useful.

And people have different learning methods Stan. Don't fault them. For the record, as a pro, I sometimes find lighting diagrams missing important elements ... e.g.,grids used, etc. I get it. People are busy, or assume others will "just figure it out". But there are lots of successful videos out there. Peter Hurley's headshot series, or RGG's tutorials.
