Advanced Air Manager Panels

How to integrate X-Plane 11 pop out GPS and Displays and the RealityXP GTN750 windows into realistic Air Manager Panels. The methods of creating the panels is described in detail too. It features X-Plane but could be applied to FSX and P3D as well.

Thanks for yet another good video. I’m about to buy a setup of 3 screens for scenario and one touch screen for AM with two PCs, based on your earlier recommendations. In this video, though and from some of your answers below, I have the impression you have updated your PC to an i7 with better graphic card (1070Ti). Can you confirm that you are running all of of it on that PC or do you still have a slave PC for the scenery? Any tips (refresh rate, input lag time) about the monitors or any 50-55’’ full HD (1080p) TV will do?

I am a subscriber to your channel, and really enjoy your educational videos, including this one! I am a long time user of FSX along with the Carenado Seneca V aircraft, Flight1 Aspen EFD1000, and Reality XP GNS530 V2 add-ons. Together, these do a really nice job of emulating our actual Seneca setup. After watching your various videos, including this one and the one on multiple monitors, I am in the process of upgrading my flight sim computer to WIndows 10, and implementing X-Plane 11 along with Air Manager. My plan is to build an Air Manager panel that includes an Aspen PFD, the Reality XP GNS530 v2, along with the GNS530 bezel, and run it on a separate laptop with a touch-screen monitor. I have two related questions. First, will the approach that you outline in this video also work with the RealityXP GNS530 V2, or only the X-Plane 11 GNS530? I believe the RealityXP unit does a better job of emulating the actual GNS530W including LPV approaches, and would prefer to use it. And second, if I run Air Manager on my laptop including the GPS unit, should the laptop be setup as the main computer, and then my tower as the secondary / visuals? My yoke, throttle quadrant, and rudder pedals are all currently connected to my tower computer. Sorry for the long message, but trying to connect all of the various dots from several of your videos.

I'm not an FSX expert but you cant really do what you want with iPads except by using some programs that allow you to use your iPad as an external USB monitor. This is because the GTN window or G1000 window needs to be an undocked window for the simulator. Does that make sense?

I liked the smaller monitors to use as part of a panel with some physical buttons and switches (and maybe an autopilot control ) too so you only need to display a limited number of instruments on the monitors and they can be larger more life sized. see my video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWRqvI-EY5fLops.htmlsi=1g4l2Ia9qmDTcIyv If you plan to use the monitor(s) as most of the controls than a 23-34 inch touchscreen is a good size so the instruments are bigger and easier to manipulate with the finger. As for the Knobster I'd go with a single mounted between the monitors where it can be easily reached. One Knobster can support as many panels as are running on the computer the Air Manager instance that the knobster is connected to. The only exception might be if you have an overhead panel it is awkward to haave to look and reach down so mounting a second Knobster up there makes sense. Good luck.

Hi Russ, thank you for all your time and sharing ways to enjoy Reality XP and Air Manager, and the "Knobster" I have been trying to use both Reality XP and Air Manager to build a panel using your GNS 530 overlay along with Reality XP GNS 530 incorporated inside an Air Manager panel I have created, everything works, except the ability to use the touch screen and knobster for only the Reality XP, I have not since you only showed how to remove the bezel on the X Plane 11 530 the bezel for Reality XP, what files do I need to locate in order to remove the bezel for Reality XP GNS 530? Will this make the touch screen and knobster work once the bezel has been removed, I tried using Reality XP pop out on the Air Manager panel with an area that is transparent, and only the mouse can control the functions, previously I used the X Plane 11 530 pop out with your 530 overlay and everything works on Air Manager with knobster. What am I missing, or is the Reality XP GNS 530 unable to be incorporated with your GNS 530 X Plane 11 overlay?

  • @rbarlow

Rod I don't have the RXP 530 but only the GTN750. It has an option in the setttings to pop out the window and also to hide the bezel. I would imagine the RXP530 might have that option but not sure. The manual shows a way to adjust the frame rect of the window to hide the bezel but it is a little complicated. If you are using the Air Manager 3.5 beta the overlay can have a transparent background and clicks on the RXP530 will not reach it so as long as the panel is set for always on top the RXP bezel will stay behind the Air Manager bezel. . RXP530 has custom commands for the controls so to use the overlay the datarefs would have to be changed or I believe there is a setting to have it use the standard XP11 GPS 530 commands. look at the manual at files.100megabyte.com/realityxp/manuals/Reality%20XP%20GNS%20V2%20User's%20Manual%20(XPlane).pdf.

I suspect you have not popped out the GTN to a separate window. There is a way to do that in the settings. Otherwise it can’t be dragged outside the X-Plane window. The bezel should come with it so since you can do everything by touch I didn’t make a bezel. Just frame the GTN with your Air Manager panel set it always on top and enable click through so your touches can get to the GTN. Cover the top title bar of the GTN window with part of your AM Panel to hide it as it is an immersion killer for me.If you need more help let me know

It is enabled with an Arduino Mega (buttons and encoders), it has almost all the functions of the left screen, the right screen is only enabled in some options, since Air Manager only supports openstreetview type maps. If you are very interested I could show you how it is currently working, and sell it to you at a reasonable price.

It sounds like you have some info on the hardware. Do you know of a generic knob that is USB that I could map to the knob on the G500? This really would solve all of my problems.

sure. Click the windows menu key and go to Settings-> System-> About and click the 'Rename this PC" button. I think you have to restart to take effect. Then that name can be used instead of the IP address and will appear in the XP networking settings. best of all it will not change if your router assigns a new IP to your computer.

Fred Smid you are only limited by the number of graphic ports available on your computer I have run three touchscreens off of a computer network with my simulator. You don’t even need that powerful of a graphics card because air manager renders 2-D. If you want to take the pop-up windows from X plane into the air man is your panel they must be running on the same computer so that limits you somewhat as most graphics cards can only support three or four and performance is greatly reduced if you’re running the simulator on the same computer

Hi Russ. I have a weird issue. My Air Manger was working fine with a touch screen monitor and knobster. But today as I was taking off on a flight the PFD on my Air Manager screen disappeared. The MFD was still there and functional. I have (3) 49" monitors for the cockpit view and a 20" Samsung touchscreen for the instruments. Iv'e always configured the touchscreen in X-Plane as "not used." That way, I can drag the popups to it with nothing else is there but Air Manger. I've spent maybe 4 hours today trying to get it to work, but no success. At this point I can't even drag the pop up windows onto the touchscreen at all. With or without Air Manger running. They will drag off the edge of my last monitor but they are not showing up at all on the touchscreen. The mouse is there, but not the popups. I've tried different panels, rebooting, etc. Do you have any suggestions for fixing this? PS - This may not be relevant, but X-Plane never remembers my monitor settings, so I have to re-configure them every time I stat X-Plane. Thanks for any help you can give me. This is making me crazy. C.E. Sherrod ... interesting problem. I assume you mean the X-Plane pop out G1000 windows are the problem and not the Air Manager Bezel? Sounds like a problem with your windows display setup or more likely a problem with XP setup. Recheck your display setup first. Then you may want to delete your XP settings files to reset everything. Deleting X-Plane’s preferences is an easy way to reset the simulator to its default settings after a setting has been changed that caused X-Plane to crash. It is also a good idea to delete the preferences after updating the simulator, due to the fact that the preferences files are continually changing. To delete X-Plane’s preferences: 1. Open the X-Plane 11 installation directory in My Computer, the Mac Finder, etc. 2. Go to the Output folder, then open the Preferences folder. 3. Delete the files within this folder (not the folder itself) to reset X-Plane’s preferences. It sounds to me like the windows coordinates in XP11 are messed up. Resetting the prefs is pretty radical but it seems like a possible solution for all your problems. Let me know how you do.

My question is can I run X-Plane 11, Air Manager and expect it to work with Duet Display (Map) on an Ipad. I thought I saw another one of your videos that showed you running air-manager on a 'stick'PC, and either you or someone else saying that if you run it all on the same PC there are issues with getting it to work with an iPad. Ideally, I would like to run it all from one PC. My plan is to have three 43"cheap TVs. a 24" Dell touch screen and an iPad for a map.

  • @rbarlow

Brian Sha I don’t know how involved you are in flight simulation but people routinely pay $20-30 for a single airport scenery package. Some addon airplanes, like the Flight Factor A320, are $100. Air Manager offers almost 500 free instruments to build panels, worlds with FSX,P3D, and XPlane, and runs on Windows, Linux, and MacOS. There is no sin in playing with the stock X-Plane scenery and airplanes with only a mouse and keyboard but for many of us we want more realism and diversity. The Air Manager setup is very simple but there are a few common mistakes that are made. First, you must install the software program and the plugin for XP. The Sim Innovations website has a support forum that has helped thousands figure out what they are missing and get things working. Sim Innovations also has a KZread channel covering basic setup of Air Manager. My video may have seemed a bit complex but is why it was entitled Advanced Panels for Air Manager.

Marcos Jaimovich this can only be fine by running a second copy of XP11 on the computer alongside Air Manager and making it the master. Then run your current XP computer as the external visual. The only way to drag the popped out GPS display window to behind the AM panel is to be on the same computer. And only the Master XP copy updates the GPS display.
