@rinse-repeat I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I joined the military over 20 years ago and there was an Anime end theme I heard that Ive had in my head ever since. I searched for years trying to figure it out. I saw this upload and found out it was the ending to Android Kikaider (Adult Swim version). Couldn't believe it when I played it. Thanks for the nostalgic memories

I'm 9 years old again, waking up to these shows and commercials in the middle of the night at my grandmother's house. It's so weird how some of these commercials are deeply ingrained into my memories. Seeing the PS2 and Gameboy commercials hurt my heart. It's sad that I'll never live that era again.

It's 2003. You're 10. You fell asleep watching Cartoon Network but the tv stirred you awake with the surreal beats of the Adult Swim bumpers. You don't know what show it is, you've never even seen it advertised. The show isn't itself scary, but there's something unnerving about the tone of it. You like it, but you also have a strange feeling, like the tv is watching you back. Never have you felt so connected to a tv channel, but there's something about the quiet of the night contrasted with the bizarre tone of Adult Swim that is both unsettling and comforting.

That unnerving feeling is spot on! It was like a fear of the unknown mixed with the excitement of seeing something that you know wasn’t meant for you. Throw in a dash of confusion because seriously… wtf am I even watching right now? Bonus points if you were a religious kid worrying that you’d go to hell for watching it.

1:23:14 this ending is still one of the coolest I've seen. Kikaider, Trigun, Big O, Cowboy Bebop, and the 2003 FMA are what opened me up to darker, less kiddie anime. Love the atmosphere in Kikaider; the whole show was bittersweet at its highest point.

Laying in bed on a school night, can't sleep - watching Adult Swim. Never seen anime before and got enchanted by the vibe, suddenly way past bedtime a show comes on called cowboy bebop, a show that resonated with me while i lay wondering if someone else like me was laying in bed watching the same shows pondering life, getting some nostalgic vibe from the show and when it ends the outro song kicks in and you feel melancholic (the real folk blues). After the show, inuyasha comes on and you want to keep watching but you're eyes are feeling heavy, you put down the volume and leave the tv on, the conversations from the shows and the light from the tv act as a kind of night light as you drift away into sleep.

Thanks so fucking much for this. The only really positive memories I have with my father were watching [as] together. My dad decided i was mature enough for adult swim at the age of like fucking 8 or 9 (fuckin smooth move dad lmao) so like just after '04. His 2 fav anime from the early [as] lineup were definitively Big O and Trigun - and those like got me into anime early. Seeing both together in this comp along with Brak Show which he fucking adored, just thank you - a lot. Making me tear up over here. I've been trying to compile bumps for a project similar to this i wanted to do privately, but I have a shit ton, and some of those even just send chills down my spine to early childhood.

Wasn’t a adult swim/toonami kid and I was born way after most of these show aired but watched kikaider and big o a couple months back and they are such gems. I’m a huge fan of robots and those two shows fill my kick in different yet similar ways. Funnily enough their dub cast was shared, with the most noteworthy being the female leads sharing the same va. Though between the two, Kikaider from what I saw got done dirty in terms of its airing. Adult swim dubbed almost all of the anime content it had-only exception being a recap ep and a special crossover that served as its proper send off, but it didn’t come out when they did dub it anyways-but for some reason decided to air all the eps of kikaider within the same week, only taking a bit of a break when they moved on to dub the 4 ep ova sequel and afaik it never got reruns. It’s such a shame it had to take the bullet like that, given the creator of kikaider is the same dude as cyborg 009 which also aired on toonami and more famously Kamen rider. I feel it really what lead to it’s anime being so obscure despite the original Toku show being a bit known, which even with some of my gripes towards the anime it’s a bit of a shame as more people would definitely like it. At least big o got to shine in the west even if most of its fans now are old aha.

I remember laying on my best friends living room floor(my choice she always offered the couch). (2002-2003). We were in highschool. The same bumfuck town in Ohio yet we were both born CA, watching adult swim. We would stay up, watch Conan O’Brian do his marionette routine (her favorite) and then quickly shift to adult swim (my favorite) we would make it through around 12 minutes of space ghost before we were snoring. Volume at max, her Mom has work in the morning, but lets us be. Falling asleep dreaming of Drax, and whatever tomorrow at school would bring us. The soul mates of best friends. (Almost 40 and still true, it was kismet meeting at 12.) A beautiful, light, simple time of just being to be. No money, no power and absolutely no concerns other than the ones of our own creation. Whoever uploaded these videos, thank you for giving me a lost piece of my youth.

@@TheZigzagman It's nostalgic in tone, but fresh in terms of the stories being told. It's about the same feeling as discovering a game you've never heard of on an old console you're familiar with, and seeing that it's aged beautifully.

What a variety block of shows, both Western and Eastern. Everything was interesting in its own right as enjoyable and over the top. Even the ads and bumpers. This isn't nostalgia talking when I say that it really is not the same and it will most likely not be again. But hey, anything is possible.

@13:35 the guy that said, "that was crazy" is Bboy Crazy Legs, Rock Steady Crew. If you know him you know Kool Herc, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, LL, De La Soul.... That whole genre of music isn't played anywhere now it's just remembered by a small portion of the (aging) population. Having a throwback night watching Adult Swim is chill. Thankful I was born before society is the way it is

Is the Big O a masterpiece? This is the first time I'm watching this show or at least the first time I pay attention to it and it's sooo interesting. As a first time watcher it feels like I'm thrown into a fully fledged world and story I just have no grasp on, which makes me feel like a spectator in the world. Just witnessing it all unravel.
