    Your picture came out great. When I first started coloring I used to do all the fancy shading. Now I just love to solid color. I have a pack of crayons so I think I will definitely try this out. It gives the same effect without the hours of hassle. Thanks for the demonstration 🌺

    This is great! And you’re not a lazy colorist, you’re practical! In every craft there’s a range from simple and relaxed to detailed and hard and finding what makes you satisfied but still enjoying it is important. I think the page/book makes a difference to me. I am willing to spend more time on a Teresa Goodridge page, but just want to be relaxed and quick with a Kameliya Angelkova page. We have to enjoy the process or we’ll end up giving up on it. This page is really pretty!!

    I totally agree Alicia! It took a bit of time for me to figure out what I really enjoyed about coloring and how much effort I’m willing to put into a page. What’s great about coloring is that you can really make it as simple or complex as you want it.

    This was so helpful. I want more depth but really don’t know how to shade. I also love alcohol markers. This seems like an easy way to better depth results. I will never do that whole multi layer pencil thing. I too am a nurse and a lazy colorist lol. I just don’t have the time. I’ve also recently bought a large box of twistables and colors in motion. They seem a bit softer. Some color tubers recommended them. But you can never go wrong with Crayola. I also loved your detail video. People show their finished pages and I’m like how did they apply the stickles or glossy accents or use the colorless blender etc. I’ve been using confetti crayons for backgrounds. Very easy. Have you tried gel crayons for anything? I have them but have not used them. Thank you for sharing your useful, and easy ideas.

    Hey Lauren thank you so much for showing us how too do this, I’m still confused about how to do it do you use the same colors picked for your color by number book like sachin’s or a shade lighter I have very much a hard time distinguishing from lighter to darker. I would like to see the colors that you use so I can get an idea on what to do. FYI I’m pretty dumb when it comes to coloring 😂

  • @LaurenLovesColor

    @LaurenLovesColor

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Amanda, not a dumb question at all. I think CBN is the perfect avenue to try this skill and then work your way up to non-CBN. I would suggest just utilizing the colors you usually do in your CBN books (this is how I started) and then swatch those colors on a separate sheet of paper and try different crayon combinations over the swatches to find a color that is dark enough to be seen over the marker color. I practiced this technique in some of my simpler CBN books from Sachin Sachdeva and I built my confidence from there. Feel free to reach out to me on IG if you have any specific questions. For Sachin, I also have in my color charts a column for the Caliart marker colors I use for outlining (shading). You could match crayons to those colors as well if you have Caliarts.

    Thanks Lisa! I use Ranger Glossy Accents amzn.to/3BBkZQC. They are wonderful! You only need a small amount and they do take hours to dry, so be patient with them. If you want a similar effect that doesn’t require the dry time, you can also use the clear Gelly Roll Glaze pens amzn.to/2VdRWlK. The Glaze pens are not as glossy but some prefer the control of the medium in pen form.

    Looking forward to trying this technique. Do you have to let the markers dry on the paper before you add the crayons?

  • @LaurenLovesColor

    @LaurenLovesColor

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Deb! Yes, I would suggest letting the markers fully dry prior to adding crayon. That’s mostly due to the fact that I work primarily on Amazon printed books, so the paper will tear if it’s too wet and too much pressure is applied. I use alcohol markers, so they dry very quickly. I usually color the whole page in marker first, then go and start applying the crayon.

    Did you use wax crayons to shade on top of marker pens? How hard do you press with the wax crayon please? Thank you.

  • @LaurenLovesColor

    @LaurenLovesColor

    3 жыл бұрын

    I use Crayola crayons, which I believe are wax based. They definitely leave a waxy texture on the page. In regards to pressure, I always start with light pressure and then build up to heavy pressure in areas that I want more solid color. I really try to put heavy pressure towards the dark lines of the drawing and then lighten my pressure as I color to fade the color into the marker color, if that makes sense. I try to avoid a hard start/stop where the crayon is.
