I'm an adult ballet dancer - started a few years ago at 25. At first I felt frustrated that I didn't start dancing when I was 5 years old, because I would be so much stronger and more flexible if I had. But now I realize that the adult ballet community is much, much more friendly and kind than the serious/professional ballet world. A lot of girls in my open classes who danced when they were teens have a bit of trauma attached to it. In the end I'm kind of grateful that I started later in life tbh. I'll take the healthy mindset over the flat turnout any day.

even if a person isn't professional, if they're dancing ballet, even in their first class, they're a ballet dancer :D

The open classes I do all have a pianist, and we do usually keep going until everyone has done the combination a few times. Maybe the variable is whether or not there's live music.

Another fun “podcast”. Thanks for sharing! Many companies now share videos of dancers during company class (e.g. World Ballet Day but also just snippets throughout the year). Do professional dancers like being filmed in class or does it feel like yet more pressure to the daily routine?

good question! It definitely depends on the person or what that ballet company has going on at that time. If the dancers have a killer rehearsal day after class...odds are the cameras might feel annoying to them lol

Hi, do you think that an Adult Ballet Class that is sponsored by a Professional Ballet Co., has any differences than a Community Dance School that offers Adult Ballet Classes?

Or a dance studio that only offers open classes, like Pineapple or Danceworks in London.

To be honest...some of my favorite open classes aren't attached to a company. A perfect example of that is Steps in new york!
