    Thank you for sharing your progress! I look a lot like you... started skating last year at 37, now I'm 38 and working on adult 6 skills. It's not easy teaching our unathletic bodies to skate, but it's possible! :)

    Hello, Jen. As a fellow inline skater of a year and a half now, and someone who is the same age as you, I've been nurturing a dream of learning figure skating one day. I recently received feedback from someone who tried to discourage me, saying it was too late for me to start. However, I chose not to pay heed to his words because I have experienced the power of time and consistent practice firsthand in my life. Your channel happened to appear on my feed and has been a significant source of motivation for me. I have a dream that in five years, I'll be gliding and spinning freely on ice, hopefully meeting you on the way. Thank you for sharing your videos - they're truly inspiring!

    I had my first figure skating lessons at 57 this winter, and I have been having an incredible time. I would say that you should go for it; it’s never too late to start. I find it super exciting to make progress on new techniques, although I wear a helmet and some hockey protection when I’m learning challenging new things… spills hurt a little more when you’re older I have found out. The local figure skating club here has fantastic adult learn to skate lessons… hopefully you have a club nearby.

    Oh, you should definitely sign up for lessons! When I was in group classes, there were a lot of older adults there (50+), and I watched a few of them learn how to jump. I was so inspired by them! I think you'll pick it up quickly especially if you have the motivation and time to practice consistently. I feel like I skate so much better when I practice 4x/week instead of just weekends only 😅

    @@jenonice Your experience is even more inspiring. I was thinking not even to try jumping at my age. You gave me enough reasons that I should try. I do practice my inline skating almost everyday.     Your videos are inspirational… thanks for sharing with us! I thought it was cool that you admitted in your previous video that you were terrified about something your coach suggested; I’ve had that feeling, too. But it’s such a good feeling when you press through it and finally get a new technique to work, don’t you think? It took me months to get 3-turns (anything involving going backwards terrified me) and then it just clicked. Good luck with your lessons!

    Thanks for watching! Yes, my coach has realized I get scared easily, so now she tries to break new things into smaller pieces for me to learn and digest LOL It does feel great to make progress (even it's small) after months of practice! I feel like my 3-turns are going to take me just as long to "get" as my Forward Crossovers. It is what it is though... I'm a slow learner, haha

    love love love to see this 🥰 being an older skater beginner one of my biggest fear is falling bad, and that stops me from making progress. how to practice falling as a skater and as older, is a topic I would appreciate so much to learn more on.

    Thanks for watching! I've been wearing lightly padded shorts to take the edge off of falling, but I think I need to practice intentionally falling too. I will add that to the list of things I should practice on in the upcoming weeks 😅

    @@jenonice great idea, to wear padded pants. watching younger skaters I realize I have to practice falling, my biggest fear, in order to progress. looove your videos and longing so much to be on the ice again. good luck on your skating, you rock🥰⛸⛸

    I totally get that fear of falling... I started skating at 37, and in the last year have bruised my knees twice, had a mild concussion (didn't actually hit my head though), and eventually I wised up and started wearing knee pads and padded shorts over my pants. But then, six weeks ago I fell backwards while attempting a three-turn, and dislocated a finger! Once my finger heals, I plan on picking back up where I left off (adult 6)... I think it's important to conquer the fear of falling again. I definitely need to try NOT to break my fall with my hands, that was my big mistake. 😜

    @@BarbaraDanelle OMG, wow! I hope you have a quick recovery, so you can return to the ice! I'm struggling with 3-turns now because I'm afraid of falling even though I haven't actually fallen from doing them (yet?) 😅 I just recently started wearing some padded shorts too, but I don't think it made any difference in my confidence, haha

    @@jenonice Thanks! I am still working on getting back full range of motion in my finger, but it's a lot better now. I just went back to the rink for the first time yesterday, so far so good! I will be starting adult 6 next week. 3-turns are tough to learn! I had to take adult 5 twice because I couldn't get the 3-turn; took me 2-4 months to get the hang of them, and I'm still working on getting more consistent/better. One thing I can say for sure, skating is an excellent workout! 😅

    Hi, Jen! It seems you've got more speed since April! And it's nice to see backward glides, I don't remember you doing them before! Do you do any exercises off ice? If not, maybe you ask your coach for some, they could help you with your upper body as well. I often imitate some moves (oh my mohawks...) at home trying to pay attention to my hands and shoulders, and it really helps later on ice. My skating rink has cancelled public sessions for summer, and I already miss the ice badly. I'll explore the other options next week, but it takes much more time to get to other skating rinks, so I'm not sure I'll be able to handle it.

    Oh no! That sucks you can't practice over the summer! We have limited Public Sessions this month because of events and camps, so I won't get to skate as much as I usually do either. Before I started private lessons, I was taking group lessons at another rink a one hour drive away. It was such a hassle trying to organize my work schedule to get there every week! My coach suggested I do squats, lunges and calf raises daily, and rolling my shoulders before I skate. She also has been forcing me to skate faster during my warmup laps, and stay away from the boards😅

    @@jenonice There are three skating rinks half an hour drive away (I suddenly realized that I live almost in the center of local rinks imaginary circle), but one of them doesn’t have any public sessions at all (except for Christmas time), the other one is closed for summer, and the road to the third one is being repaired resulting in enormous traffic jams. And my skating rink is just 5 minutes away on foot! And I was so vocal on my suffering without public sessions that whoever is responsible for the timing rescheduled it. This week there are public sessions EVERY day! I’m so happy I had to share with somebody. 🤩🤩🤩 P.S. About staying away from the boards, do you mean you feel safer there or do you tend to crash into boards?

    @@TT-ce9sm I'm so glad you get to skate again during the summer! That would be so annoying to live by so many rinks, but not have that option! My local rink has a chaotic summer schedule too - there has been weeks of hockey camps with little Public and Freestyle sessions, or there are 4 hour(!) Public Sessions every single day of the week. It's feast or famine over here. LOL My coach wants to me to stay away from the boards because she thinks I need to skate with more confidence, and to "take up space" at the rink. I tend to stay close to the boards because I feel like I'm in people's way 😅
