Adrian Rogers: How to Run Like a Champion (2413)

Sermon Overview
Scripture Passage: Hebrews 12:1-2
Living the Christian life is much like running in a race, and Hebrews 12 shows us how to run like a champion.
First, we must remember there is a purpose to pursue.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…” (Hebrews 12:1). We are in this race until our very last breath. There is no retiring or quitting from this race against ourselves.
There is a person to prepare.
“...let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us…” (Hebrews 12:1).
Many of us lag behind because we are weighed down by excess baggage. Remember: we are free to enjoy our hobbies, treasures, and friendships until they keep us from running our race.
Adrian Rogers says, “Good things become bad things when they keep you from the best things.”
If we’re not careful, our baggage will cause us to stumble completely. When we find ourselves tripped up by sin, we must confess and repent so we can get back on track.
Third, there is a price to pay.
“...let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…” (Hebrews 12:1). No one strolls over the finish line; endurance is necessary in order to run a race well. We must get our hearts and minds right and finish the course.
Fourth, there’s a promise to plead.
“...looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2). The One who first calls us to the race will enable us to finish the race. We must keep our eyes on God, who gives us faith, because He is the One we are running toward.
Finally, there is a prize to possess.
“...who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). As we run this race, living by faith, we know we are headed toward eternal victory. Because Jesus finished the race on Calvary, He has become our reward. The race will have been worth it when we see Him face-to-face.
Apply it to your life
Are you running with endurance today - setting aside the things that weigh you down and cause you to sin? Are you living a life of faith well, sharing the Gospel with others, so that they may enter the race toward Jesus?

    Jesus has given me strength, to keep going, even though I want to give up. I have two beautiful boys both are autistic. My husband passed away years ago. I’m all alone. I lost my job over declining the vaccine. LIKE MANY OTHERS! I declined due to my pre existing health conditions lupus and heart disease. I’ve been struggling to provide for myself and my children since losing my job as a social worker from Forsyth hospital. I’m now waitressing, and I’m thankful, but I’m not making nearly enough to get by. Every month is a battle to not end up on the streets with my two children. I’m constantly in fear of losing my home. To even think about being on the streets with two young children is terrifying. But even as I face homelessness seemingly every month. I have faith, God will provide. With GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Faith over fear.

    I will be one among many, I'm sure, that will be praying for you. I myself am dealing with many hardships, not the least is taking care of my 90 year old mother with dementia. I don't pretend to know why we are given this course to take but I do know that God in His infinite wisdom and foreknowledge IS working out His purpose for our lives, whether it's sharing our testimony of faith to a homeless person who may become the next Billy Graham or helping a former CEO through a major crisis that took all away, we have been appointed to share the gospel and comfort those in need with the comfort we ourselves have been comforted. May God continue to bless you and your boys. Keep doing Matt. 6:33.

    As the 70 are celebrating that the demons were subject to them in Jesus’ name, in Luke 10:17, Jesus redirects their excitement by pointing to an even bigger blessing: their salvation! Jesus says, “However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” Casting out demons has a temporal, limited benefit in this world, but having your name written in heaven is an eternal, unlimited blessing!

    Pay attention to the words of this man. Preachers like him are a rarity nowadays. He preaches Christ and His resurrection and sin and repentance and how to be saved. He loves the Lord and His Word. Preachers now talk about money, giving to get, how great they themselves are and how they are blessed with a special relationship with God that is so much better than the one you have that Jesus comes to their hotel rooms on a regular basis and gives them tours of heaven. Shame on all of them. God bless the memories of Billy Graham and Adrian Rogers. We need more men who are on fire for God.

    God has told us to pass on this last days warning, so we are sharing this video, which we hope you will watch, with everyone and we will let God bring the understanding, we are just the messengers. Last Days Message - So Much Of What Today's Leaders Do Cannot Be Found In God's Word, Why Follow Them? Acts chapter 2, and for that matter, the entire book of Acts is for today, despite what so many leaders and denominations say. The book of Acts is not the acts of the apostles, it is the acts of the Holy Spirit done through His apostles and disciples. The book of Acts cannot be ignored or watered down. Many of today's leaders are encouraging God's people to worship God any way they want, yet Jesus says He is looking for those that will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Jude tells us to earnestly contend for the faith once for all delivered unto the saints. So, if something a leader is encouraging you to do cannot be found in God's word then don't do it. Follow, serve and worship Jesus as He states in His word. If a leader is teaching you anything else, run away! Leaders in the early, already corrupted church, created "special" days, created a church calendar, created traditions and added so much to God's word and how to preach God's word, that leaders today cannot see how much they have continued on the wrong path. God may have saved someone or worked a miracle during one of these "special" days, but not because it was a "special" day, God did it in spite of the leader honoring their "special" day and He loves His children, but He has had enough of working in spite of His leaders. Throw away everything that is not in God's word, there are no "special" days, God does not work on a "church" calendar, God does not like traditions and wants His people to use His word alone. Leaders must get back to preaching like Jesus, Peter, and Paul and the rest of His apostles and disciples, without notes, without preplanned messages, and instead, preach by opening their mouths and letting the Holy Spirit speak through them. Are there any leaders today that have enough faith and trust in God to believe that He will speak through them? If you cannot do that, could it be you were not called? Could it be, you were called but you lost your way? The "church" calendar or special events should never guide what leaders preach about, it should always and forever be what God wants to speak about through His leaders. Didn't God say that rivers of living waters would flow from your belly, don't leaders believe that? Run from planned messages, because they are from man not from God. God always wants to speak, and according to His word that is what He wants His leaders to be doing, waiting on God to bring forth His message that God has on His heart. This continued way of following, serving and worshipping God as man desires has brought so much lukewarmness to God's church that Revelation 3:14-22 is soon coming to pass. Repent while you have a chance. Accept Jesus as your Lord and savior...... I know most will mock, but this is why the Bible said Ecclesiastes 7:5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. For the fool says there is no God. The byproduct is that same fool returning to his folly, as a Dog to its vomit........

    @@scottkinter2839 James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. So, here you go. We receive any "crown(s)" that the Lord gives for our worship and obedience and lay them at his feet. At least that's what I get as the meaning. At any rate, I'm thankful for what scripture promises.

    BIBLE Unless you repent you will all likewise perish A Call to Repentance 13 About this time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from Galilee as they were offering sacrifices at the Temple. 2 “Do you think those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other people from Galilee?” Jesus asked. “Is that why they suffered? 3 Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God. 4 And what about the eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem? 5 No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too.” Luke 13:1-5 NLT Many ask why God would allow diseases, disasters and tragedies -- even such a disease as the coronavirus which has infected thousands and thousands -- which cause many to die. As a sinful human being with a very limited understanding of the ways of God, I will not presume to speak on His behalf and try, as some have done, to explain God's reasonings for permitting such things to occur. I will, however, let God speak for Himself if any care to listen. Death itself is a part of the curse brought upon this world and all of us because of our sin and disobedience to God's commandments. After our first parents, Adam and Eve, sinned in the Garden of Eden, God told Adam, "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return" (Gen. 3:19). Moses, in Psalm 90:7-10, says, "For we have been consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are terrified. You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." In Luke 13, Jesus was told of certain Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. Jesus asked, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered such things? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Applying Jesus' words to those who have suffered or even died from disease or tragedy, were these people worse sinners than others, including us, who have, at least not yet, suffered such tragedy? Jesus said, "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." In 2 Peter 3, the Bible speaks of God's final judgment upon this earth, and we learn why it has not yet occurred. Verse 9 explains: "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." The reason God allows this sin-filled world to go on a little longer despite the evil in it, and the reason God allows us to live on a little longer in this world in spite of our sinfulness, is because He does not desire our eternal condemnation but that we repent and look to Him for mercy and forgiveness in the crucified and risen Christ Jesus. And, think about it! Tragedy and disease could also strike right here at home. We cannot claim we are any less guilty of sin. We certainly deserve God's wrath and punishment for the millions of unborn we have killed and continue to kill, for disregarding the teaching of God's Word regarding marriage and God's creation of male and female, for failing to teach our children to know the Lord God of the Bible and to trust in Him, and for all our own individual disobedience and sin against His commandments. The only reason God has not already judged and condemned us is that He "is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." Psalm 90 goes on to say, "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (v. 12). So, perhaps -- no, most definitely -- we ought to use the remaining time God has given us in this world to consider what He has told us in the Bible, to repent of the sin and evil in our lives and to seek the forgiveness God offers and promises to us through faith in the holy life and the innocent suffering and death of His Son! O merciful God, forgive my disobedience and sin for the sake of Christ Jesus and His atoning sacrifice on the cross for the sins of all and teach me to walk in Your ways and live for You in accord with Your holy Word. Amen.

    That is 100% unbiblical, the Bible clearly says the dead know NOTHING. They're not watching over us.... Ecclesiastes 9:5 5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

    The Gospel: Plain and Simple “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3 Ask someone today if they are saved and you will most likely hear responses like these: “I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually knows the gospel that saves them. These use￾less phrases don’t describe a thing about what the gospel is and has left a devastating effect of people not knowing what it is that they are saved from nor how they are saved; which leaves a more serious effect of people ques￾tioning their salvation. Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salva￾tion that is in Christ with vague church sounding phrases that do not communicate anything. But rather present God’s word with clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel: plain and simple. Sin was passed upon all men by one man Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin (Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good works one might do we are still found sinners in the sight of our Creator God. And all un￾righteousness and those who follow get in￾dignation and wrath. We cannot be found righteous for by God’s law we are found sin￾ners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even one law we are found guilty. It is for this reason of not being able to create our own righteousness and being born in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus 3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross 2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath and judgement that was intended for us sin￾ners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial, and resurrection on our behalf that we are able to have peace with God and forgiveness of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good news is unto all but only those that believe in it are made righteous in Christ (Romans 3:22). It is then after we have heard this good news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit and we are now part of Christ’s body the church (Eph 1:13) There is nothing that we need to do, no good works that are required, and no bad works that can separate us from our new po￾sition in Christ (Romans 8:35-39). Faith and belief in this information from God’s word is the gospel. The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your heart. The gospel is not making him lord of your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not being baptized with water. So next time someone asks you if you are saved.
