Adrian Rogers: Can God Be Trusted in Your Troubles? (2155)

Sermon Overview
Scripture Passage: Job 13:15
We have all faced devastation at some point in our lives; it is in those difficult seasons we often ask ourselves if God is enough. Can God be trusted in our troubles?
This is what Job learned in his suffering. God allowed the devil to bring hardship on Job because the devil didn’t think Job could love God just for who He is.
Yet, in Job 13:15, Job says, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” The Book of Job shows us that God Himself is not only necessary, but He is enough.
First, we can trust God even when we’re submerged in suffering.
Job’s troubles began with the seemingly instant loss of his livestock-his financial security. While Job was still reeling over the news, a second messenger informed him that he’d lost his ten children. His body was infected with a horrible disease, and as a result, his reputation was tarnished. But in the midst of this overwhelming devastation, Job continued to praise God.
Adrian Rogers says, “You can have faith and calamity all at the same time. Faith is not receiving from God what we want; faith is accepting from God what He gives.”
We can also trust God when we are forsaken by our friends.
Job 19:14 says, “My relatives have failed, and my close friends have forgotten me.” Job’s friends were perplexed by his hardships; because they didn’t understand, they assumed he was at fault and left him. Being abandoned by friends is one of the deepest hurts we could face. God understands every part of us and promises He will not leave us.
Third, we can trust God when we are dismayed by darkness.
Job had no idea what was happening to him, or why. When we find ourselves in this kind of complete darkness, we should remember to lean upon God, the guiding light of our soul’s darkest hours.
As Job pleaded his case to God, God reminded him of His sovereignty, sufficiency, and sympathy. Job learned that in his suffering, abandonment, and dismay, God was nearest to Him. God was necessary to live through the trial; He was enough to get Him through it.
Apply it to your life
Are you experiencing suffering, abandonment, or dismay? Remember that God is with you. He is sovereign, sufficient, and sympathetic. Pray today that He would reveal His presence to you.

It makes no sense for an individual to follow the Lord when the majority of the world is against God. It is a great risk and is nothing to be taken lightly. How could it truly serve a person to follow God in today’s world unless the believer really believes that God loves him/her? In fact, it would make better sense that someone would deny his love in light of how the world runs. The testimony to a person’s true belief is the real risks they must take by putting his or her own life on the line to be a believer in an unbelieving world. We are all raised in this world, but God is not of this world - and those that follow God are not of this world. They see beyond life on earth and that’s the true motivation. They see a world of perfect love beyond a very imperfect human body and world. God says you cannot serve two masters - God or money. I served God in my heart knowing it would not profit me here on earth the way it will in the afterlife.

Have you a heart that's weary, Tending a load of care; Are you a soul that's seeking Rest from the burden you bear? Where is your heart, O, pilgrim, What does your light reveal; Who hears your call for comfort When naught but sorrow you feel? Who knows your disappointments, Who hears each time you cry; Who understands your heartaches, Who dries the tears from your eyes? Chorus: Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend, Have you heard He loves you, And that He will abide till the end? JESUS CAN BE TRUSTED IN OUR TROUBLES

QUESTION: I've heard it said that God will not let SIN in His presence, then why was SATAN, the ARCHITECT of SIN, allowed in God's presence? The BIGGEST problem is; WHY God allowed Satan to afflict Job, just to prove a point. NO. if someone SAYS they love you and then allows you to be abused by their enemy, THAT IS not, NOT, *NOT* Love! Not by any normal definition. In chapter 2 of Job, God says to Satan, "Have you considered My servant, Job; one who fears God and shuns evil. He holds fast to his integrity, even though you have have provoked ME to destroy him *WITHOUT CAUSE"* . We are told to resist the devil, (James 4:7) and yet GOD allowed the devil to kill Job's children, rob him of his health and take his wealth and reduce him to destitution. God knew the heart of Job and yet, HE let Satan make a mess out of a man *"WITHOUT CAUSE"* . A person with an ounce of compassion wouldn't do that to a complete stranger! HOW does anyone reconcile this sort of treatment, (or permission for abuse) with LOVE?

How do you define LOVE? I don't think someone asking HONEST questions needs to worry. I'm asking an HONEST question! HOW do you reconcile LOVE with allowing someone you CLAIM to love to be abused? I would ask that of someone who was staying with someone who was beating them around. I'd try to help them get out of that toxic relationship. How does *"LOVE'"* justify abuse? I'm being honest. Please help me understand *why* God allowed Job to be abused when HE could have just kicked Satan to the curb. Pastor David Jeremiah has one sermon he (VERY MISTAKENLY ) referred to as, *WHEN GOD MADE A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL* . Somebody reading that would go anywhere else on youtube after reading that the GOD they WANTED to trust...were DESPERATE to trust, made a deal with the Father of Lies (John 8:44) I am grasping at straws, TRYING to make sense of why the God who LOVED (?) Job allow him to be put through just about hell on earth. @@davidleckner43

You're right. It is a valid question. It's the same question that Job asks. But try thinking about it think way...in marriage you vow to take your wife or husband, to have and to hold, for rich or for poor, in sickness and health, until death. Why? Because love that is conditional is not love it is a transaction. The point of the book is that come better or worse, faith in God will redeem the suffering. Job is restored after all. as for why God would allow it to happen (or any bad thing to happen) is because He will turn it all good. He does all things well. Satan seeks to kill, steal, and destroy, and the fact that we experience any goodness in this life is by God's grace. And if your love and faith flees when goodness flees, then it's not faith. I hope this helps. It's a very philosophical book and requires a lot of thought, but always remember through hard times God does all things well.

Hi @themahrs 👋 Thank you so much for your kind reply. Truth is, the last four years have taken a bite out of my nerves and I've had anxiety issues I've never experienced before. I've heard it said, *"God is in Control"* and at my most stressed point, I would declare, "Coulda fooled me!"*. Then, the next day, I'd apologize. There are two verses I'd love to claim, but I have a hard time putting them into practice! Proverbs 3:5 and 1st Thessalonians 5:18 (In everything give thanks). Anyway, thanks for being a sympathetic ear. I'm going to listen to some praiseusic by Paul Wilbur; that might help me find fresh perspective. Blessings🙏
