@@afilleduptaco It was one of the few dark moments of his career cause Ayrton would be killed in it and everyone blamed mechanical failure in which Newey was responsible seeing as he designed the car but even then everyone knew it would be unstable because the main point of the car’s design was to utilize the driver aids which were banned. Even then, later in 94’ Damon still competed for the title until Michael pulled his own version of Japan 1990 by crashing into Damon to win the title.

That shows how much confidence the man has in his work, “were you flat through woodcut?” “Oh, yeah.” All nonchalant. Newey is definitely a class above.

I wouldn't say they're harder to drive but they're certainly more complicated than the older cars. Theres a crazy amount of settings and engine modes. And dont forget some of the cars from 10 years ago had traction control. But the machines from the 60s, 70s and 80s were animals which were always trying to kill you

Newey's a pretty kean racer in his own right. That said, he's looks a bit prone to over doing it and crashing. Wrote off a GT40 at Goodwood

Fantastic to see people who really do love what they do enjoy the Final product of something they pour there soul into.

I would love to know Adrian Neweys lap time, he looked like he was sending it around Silverstone, hehe.

Great to see the Leyton House car again 😊 Brings back working for a great team !

It made me a bit emotional to hear the man who designed the cars say that he never had a go in a F1 car on circuit. The fist time was in "his cars". Such a nice video to watch!

Amazing video, even here in 2019. This sort of thing turns you into a Red Bull fan quickly. Who else would let the greatest F1 designer of all time do this??

Loved, loved, loved this video! Adrian Newey is such a major figure in F1 history. Just a joy to see him having so much fun in two of his creations.

Newey is a great person. I will always respect him for his fantastic job. True legend. Thank you Adrian, thank you for everythink you've done.

This is fantastic. What a beautiful car is that turquoise Leyton House. Amazing. Can you imagine what would have been happened to F1 without Adrian Newey?

That is the best insight , behind the scenes video ive evr been witness too for f1 . And Adrian is a very specail guy, and you can tell that he drives with no fear, and to watch him roll out of the pitlane. That is truly, the Man, and HIS machine, at one! Beautiful. Juat awesome to see. I wish it showed every minute of the event.

Cant wait for the day Newey drives an RB19 so he can personally experience the monster of a car he designed

I wish they had put DC in the Leyton House for some fast driving as well - and for some comments about the driving experience with h-pattern shifting, no driver protection at all etc.

nice seeing these 2 (Newey and Coulthard together.. worked together at Williams (1992-95) Mclaren (1997-2004) and Red Bull (2006-2008(2009) (DC did some testing in 2009, and was a reserve driver )

1:20 "Had we not lost our funding at Leyton House perhaps we could have a Red Bull type story". That's interesting. Well in fact just take a look at that beutiful Leyton House and you see the first signs of FW14 there.

Had to revisit this. One of the top ten in my book.

Still,,one of the best produced. Excellent vid. Maybe you guys could revisit another set??. I know Adrian wouldn't mind. I remember seeing the Leyton House car on the Telly and really liked the paint,,,many years ago.

That Leyton House car is seriously beautiful :)

To me, the rb6 has to be one of the greatest and fastest f1 cars of all time. I mean, I know there have been other dominating and great cars like the lotus 78 and williams fw14b, but considering how restricted the rules that were in place in 2010, redbull exploited every possible means to make their car as fast as possible. The regulations in place for 2010 were designed to restrict downforce and slow the cars down. You would expect the smoother bodywork, which began in 2009, along with thinner front tires compared to 09, and engine development freeze to slow down the cars, but instead newey and redbull created one of the fastest cars of all time. Their brilliant use of double diffuser, blown exhaust and engine mapping to create downforce and maintain stability while off throttle was incredible and perfected in this car. Of course mclarens f-duct was also utilized to improve top speed. I also love how compact, light, and agile the rb6 was compared to todays cars. Yes, todays 2017 cars of ferrari and mercedes are faster, but the new regulations were designed to make cars faster. The rb6 will go down as one of the all time greats.

The 2010 Red Bull was quick but also stupidly unreliable. Vettel had 3 mechanical failures from the lead

Adrian owns his own F1 car. He was given his own RB5 for all his work at Red Bull and his F1 car can sometimes be seen driven at Goodwood.

That exact Leyton House just sold at auction a few days ago. $3.5 Million I think was the final number. If you've got the money that's the way to do it. Forget Corsa Clienti, if I'm buying a F1 car I want to be able to park it in my own garage.

This video was brilliant. I knew Newey has history as a driver in other motorsport championships (Ginetta etc) but to get your hands on a modern F1 car must be something else. How amazing also that the creator and chief imagineer never had a chance, before this video, to actually get in and drive one of his championship winning creations. Bet he was quietly chuffed to pieces.

I saw the Leyton House March 881s in 1988, at Detroit. Unfortunately, only one of them entered the Grand Prix on Sunday, since Ivan Capelli broke one of his feet when he crashed in Saturday practice. I wish I could say that I remember them, but they were so overshadowed by the McLarens of Prost and Ayrton, and the Ferraris, Benettons and Williams of the day. We didn't realize at the time that Newey's cars would make F1 history. I wish I'd had the foresight to try and track him down for a pic and autograph before he blew up F1.

Its a shame a lot of the f1 fans dont know that Adrian Newey, along with the likes of Toto Wolf and most of the current team managers actually were serious race drivers and brought that into f1

Rb5 with an rb7 engine cover. A lot of f1 cars are adaptable to old parts. Red bull ran the 2005 rb1 with rb5 and 6 parts as a show car for years.
