About the video:
I am an incessant doodler.
The stars of the video for Bread And Wine were made with a scalpel, pen and a drawing book. And they were captured on my kitchen table. Even though I consider myself to be a patient individual, I didn't feel like going through the painstaking process of making a stop-animation. So, instead, I went an easier route and made a kind of lo-fi, 21st century parlour cut-out puppet show. I like to think of this video as a cross between The Wickerman and Bosco. Although, I'm aware the Bosco reference will be lost on anyone who didn't watch afternoon TV in 1980s Ireland.
It was a curious thing to see the scenarios unfold there on my kitchen table, late one windy night.
Armed with a simple hand-held camera and a few sticks of cardboard, I watched it all come together.
The protagonist in Bread And Wine bears more than a passing resemblance to myself, which wasn't an accident. But it's quite spooky, in a way, how just a few dots and lines on a page can conjure someone up. Or something.
All those characters spying at the window; like ghosts from someone's past... they all seem to have an eerie and playful presence.
