ADR and Amrep Recycler Garbage Truck (New Year’s Special)

Before Davis Waste Removal became Recology Davis, DWR sent two or three of the ADRs they had left to be refurbished. From speaking with employees at DWR, these trucks were perfect for what they needed and they wanted to keep these running as long as possible.
As a result, these trucks were remounted to a new CNG chassis (CARB) and Amrep retrofitted grippers to the arm assembly, removing the un-used buckets from the old curb sort system. The result is this awesome, custom truck, still serving the City of Davis (at the time of publishing).

These had the original chassis replaced at some point. I think they were originally Volvo WXLLs.

In New Zealand, at least for a company in Auckland. We use the freight liner at 0:34 for street sweeping, same truck/cab just different driving and door positions due to driving on the other side of the road. EDIT: The doors open like a leaf, not like a ranch slider.

Very interesting. These doors on this truck are folding doors, so it's interesting to hear about other truck designs like this.

your overhead shots were game changing for filming recyclers, I really liked that segment. but also agree how these are nearly perfect for the job considering they're cheaper than anything with a packer. how many times a day do they fill up on apartment recycling?

They run around two load days. They have two of these covering the entire city's business accounts, so a total of four loads for these trucks.
