It's not intelligence. It is my belief that we as humans disconnect somehow from something super loving and encompassing when we are born and only stay in touch with it for our first year. "Scientists" insist animals do not experience emotions. But anyone with one eye, half a brain and a dog know they experience emotions. They are if anything more empathetic than humans. That's what makes them such great therapy animals and service dogs. Brain scans measuring their mind's reaction to different images determined they have the sentience of a three or four year old. If a young child reacted this way we would consider it normal--it's also normal for dogs.

Dogs are the most amazing species ever to walk this earth, they are caring, loving, playful, have great heart for their loved ones, and not matter what you did to them before you close the door and walk away, they will always be happy to see you, their eyes filled with excitement, as they show you how happy they are that you returned, from the moment you opened the door. For example, if you were to lock a cat, or your wife in a car, and they couldn't get out, you leave them there for a few hours, do u really think the cat, or your wife would be happy the moment they seen your face? Nope. But a dog would be all kinds of excited to see you lol

#1. That scene in that movie makes me cry every time. #2. Watching a dog cry makes me cry. The two of those put together is double the emotional overload. :(

Dogs are the best pets for humans. They show so much love & affection. They understand the feelings of all, love & affection. They are also moved by the death of the owner.

Wow, the sensitivity and empathy of that beautiful dog is incredible. I’ve always believed animals experience very deep feelings and love with great passion.

This adorable dog 🐕 ❤ shows her emotions by first leaning into the film and then stepping back and making crying sounds. She's a very smart animal. She is able to detect sorrow in the film. Animals have feelings too.

Animals are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

@Rick C. I understand and I respect that. However, you don't know who that person is or how their life has been. You don't even know if English is their first language .. etc so don't judge too harshly. Like someone said, what they're saying is more important than how they say it especially that it's pretty clear what they were trying to say in the first place.

I’ve never had a dog that would watch tv. Pretty cool he understands what’s happening.

Its amazing that some dogs can watch and understand movies. We had pretty smart dogs, but none of them ever paid attention to movies

This doggy is so emotionally intelligent to pick up on all the musical and verbal and expressive cues. Well done Disney.

Incredible that this little dog had more compassion than a lot of humans I can think of. What galls me is that a creature capable of this much love and feeling and some people will leave them tied to a tree all day!!! And much worse.

I love watching your sensitive dog...they are truly like another family member.

When Simba laid down to his father and the doggo did the same, my heart melted for this good boy.

I don't know what this dog is feeling or thinking but he/she definitively felt something. Also I believe she is emotionally intelligent.

Ruth Adele West Cole in studies of humans, our brain reacts the same way emotionally to both real people and fictional characters (even though we ‘know’ they are not real), so it’s not a huge leap to think it is the same for dogs.

Dogs can read human emotions on the face. Cartoons always make animals with human reactions, so I believe between the animal part and the cartoon part, the dog had some clear idea things were not going well!

No, this film had real emotions. The 2019 version did not have real emotions

This is so precious. Only thing animals can't do is speak to us. They have more heart and empathy than some humans.

If you google it or search on Instagram, there is a woman who has set up these buttons with words and is training her dog to speak using the buttons. Some would be surprised... the dog legitimately communicates coherently in more detail than many would expect.
