Adobe Illustrator Tutorial - Object Expand Feature

www.mlwebco.com - In this video I demonstrate how to use the object expand feature in Adobe Illustrator to create outline (fill) shapes around your logo. A cool feature that you might use when creating logos.

    I have been working in a sign shop for the past couple years and really got comfortable with FlexiSign-Pro where you can just select the "Outline" feature to do this and just separate outline. So when I switched back to illustrator I was like ???? haha. Thanks so much! This helped alot!

    The best thing to do is duplicate the fill in the appearance panel, then turn the bottom fill to the gradient colour and apply the offset effect to that fill too. This keeps the text editable and allows it to be used as a Graphic Style too.

    Yeah, i use ITcrayon's method also. The 'offset path' option also allows you to round the corners and choose the miter limit, if you want.

    Yes,The offset path method is much faster and better because you can set to offset the pixels and it will keep the same amount on re-size,plus the gradient color option still remains available.

    what if your logo is a picture that you need to outline????

  • @MoosGraffiti
    @MoosGraffiti13 жыл бұрын

    Hey buddy, this is a pretty obvious solution. (amazing end result none the less) but there has got to be a way to create a path around ur image a uniform distance away from the vector. A simple outline kind of floating around ur image. Of course you would be able to then fill it as you did. I'm still looking! This technique you used wouldn't work do well on let's say.. A complex character with many layers.

    You could also just make a copy of the logo, remove the stroke, transform it to 110-125% in size, and throw it in the back. Slightly easier.

  • @chomsky72

    @chomsky72

    +Brian Soto The problem with that is when you transform the text the larger text actually would not line up with the original text. Unless, you somehow ungroup the text object and individually resize each letter...kind of a pain.

    Way too many steps, copy layer, paste to back, object, path, create offset, select preview is checked, adjust the size to preference, hit ok. With object still selected, unite in pathfinder, then expand appearance. Done. Much quicker than your method.

    +Irradiated44 I didn't happen to find anything, my way is much better than the "tutorial" presented, and didn't take 5 minutes to relay the message. If you happen to "feel" I was impolite, is not my concern, or do I really give a shit. I don't apologize for being more efficient, or working smarter. Funny how I've gotten 4 likes for my comment, (and no negatives, until you just now marked it,) but you still feel the need to whine like a little bitch.

    Oh sure, people lost respect to each others these days. "Oh I'm smarter, richer, more resourceful in any way than you do, so you should DEAL with how I treat you!" Yeah!! Liberal! Ain't got respect for nobody.

    Irradiated44 Hmmm, if I recall the order of events, you commented on this response first. If your delicate feelings are hurt so easily, why did you open your mouth to begin with, and comment on something that had absolutely nothing to do with you, at all? Typical socialist dumbass, getting involved in something that has nothing to do with themselves, but feel the need to be included in the conversation, regardless if anyone asked what their opinion was, or even care what their opinion is. SMH...
