I use content aware fill in After Effects all the time, but there are certain scenarios where it doesn't handle well. Mocha Pro remove module can help with some of these, but some are too complex. I really hope After Effects gets a "Generative Fill" feature like the example you showed seemed to suggest. However, the tie example to me looked like they generated a static image, used that static image as a reference frame, and then used standard content aware fill to animate it and do the lighting effects. Currently you could do that by combining photoshop and after effects. A proper generative fill option would be able to place 3D objects, handle objects parallaxing in front of it, handle perspective changes and proper animation, etc. I think we're probably at least a couple years away from being able to do all that.

The new features are amazing and will ease up the creator's workflow and save tons of times, but that also got me worried, with how advanced it will become, it might build an image in everyone's minds that "If AI can do this, why would I hire a creator to help me, I could do it myself" . Maybe it wont happen and maybe its just me, but for the country I am in, primarily Asia, employers will always try to find some ways to cut cost, and these features might prompt them to consider the payment for the artists just because on how easy it is to do it now. They are already paying low for what we do here, I cant help to think what might happen when this features goes to live.
@SpaceCraft-vw7gy

In almost every Interview that I had, they are all asking me what can I do aside from Video Editing. It seems like employers now a days don't just consider you if you know how to edit video, as they think it is just so easy to do. And that's correct they are all offering a very low salary as well.

I'm more aprehensive about the AI implementation across the industry as a whole. The example of having your voice be translated into another language, while on the surface is useful for specific cases, can easily be taken to extremes by people with bad intentions. I will be reading every line of the fine print when all of this is released to the public. I fear that one day an AI Voice model trained on my voice, or a client's voice, will be lost in a data breach and be used in ways I cannot imagine. I think in the not so distant future there will be productions that will sell their services based on the fact that they are "AI Free" similar to the "Organic" label at supermarkets. Enhancing audio to clean up noise using machine learning is one thing, but recreating words, images, and whole scenes that didn't happen is another. In one sense it democratizes certain aspects of the creation/visual effects processes, and in others it cheapens the craft of it. 10 years from now the whole industry will look completely different and there will be creators who use AI, and those who don't. I, for now, will use it as an accompanying tool to enhance my original vision, but not to replace an audio engineer, visual effects artist, or wardrobe department. These programs will have massive implications in the years to come. Both good and bad.

LOL, working as a director and photographer for agency work. When you will lose 90% of your work, I hope you are happy about the Ai. Because I had serious conversation internally about that. Even the agencies are in danger as their client might just do things completely internally now. I might escape it a little because I am old enough and experience enough, because at the end you will need someone to validate the add etc. But I find it comical for younger creative getting excited for something that will doom 90% of them.

All this new AI update stuff is great in terms of using it to experiment with a lot variety and creativity. But at the same time you have to realise the restrictions and problems it may also bring to the table. As everyone says "it'll just get even better and better over time", at what point will it get to when some people are more open to using generative AI rather than getting out there and using the skills and techniques they have to actually have fun and film something. Don't get wrong, generative AI will bring a ton of different ideas and possibilities, but also will it restrict us film makers ideas and creativity in terms of wanting to it "authentic" and "real". Will AI get to the point in film where we might not notice whether it's generated or real. That's what somewhat concerns me a tiny bit about it, if it's being used to fix up scenes like unwanted people or objects, then AI is certainly a great tool to utilize for that. But if it gets to the point where some people are stretching it to where an entire scene is generated, then how will people know whether it's real or not. I'm actually very excited for what new ideas and experiments arise from this but also keeping my eye on it as we have to be careful will how far we take it.

This means they already have a better algorithm than roto 3, from the video AI. which also means they can track instantly (real-time scrubbing finally). because that footage shows not only tracking each frame but gen fill at the same time. I already knew they would have the lighting perfect simply from the gen fill on PS. video is a bunch of pictures so that was a given. this track on the gen fill though you guys aren't really seeing where it can go. this new firefly has the ability to be the foundation FOR many new features. I can already see it replacing the lockdown 3 plug in and much more. based on how the TIE remained the same means, theyve mastered the frame-to-frame algorithm before ebsynth, runway ai, kaiber, AND stable diffusion. so adding custom styles to the footage will be VERY easy NOW. cause its all in the same app, adjusting parameters or even live editing the rendered AI frames will be much easier. you can edit in the middle of the clip and itll add the changes to before AND after your cursor. this will only be possible if they compartmentalize the track data to be used separately, so you can parent to it and that parent property has to transfer tracks to every generated frame. we will need ALOT of RAM for these videos since gen fil on PS already goes crazy on the memory pretty quickly.

That skill is going to be somewhat devalued as a result of this AI revolution. Language skills will still be valuable for filming scenarios, but not so much in the editing room. VA will also take a huge hit with these new features. Heck, I already filmed a project where the client decided they would use AI for dubbing. It's a mixed bag, but it's the future and the new norm.

Not necessarily scared or nervous but it’s crazy where everything is going. Doesn’t make me very happy that someone can shoot on a low quality camera and then possibly make their footage look like something pretty incredible 😂

In almost every Interview that I had, they are all asking me what can I do aside from Video Editing. It seems like employers now a days don't just consider you if you know how to edit video, as they think it is just so easy to do. And that's correct they are all offering a very low salary as well.

AI will create new creative possibilities, the creators will still be needed to create
Holy Heck yes I am excited. Excellent recap Matt!
Thanks for educating.

Wuhu! So excited to try all the new features. But we can of course not totally predict for what others will be using that kind of AI- media, politicians etc.
Great share, i think it will help a lot of content creator & video editors. especially with how clients are more demanding these days.
This is awesome. Great times indeed.
I'm pretty hype. It's really going to be about how people will implement these tools effectively.
Pretty freaking fire!!

Super Excited about AII, as a content creator/digital marketer I use AI pretty much every day but I am so intrigued by what AI can help me with in my videos. I am a video guy/photographer first but had to turn to digital marketing to make a living. I have done a few short movies and intro videos like meet your doctor before you meet your doctor. Anyway, I have not given up on video and do it every day, Premiere Pro is my friend, and keeps getting better and better.
Mind blew already 🤯
I'm so excited about the possibilities. Just like all the new features Adobe has released with each new addition, these will only enhance what we do. You still need the skillset

Hello, thanks for all the info about Firefly AI. I like your image quality, skin tones, etc, what camera/lens did you use for this video may I ask? Thanks
Incredible! Now, are they going to fix the bugs? But in all seriousness these features are insanely cool, this video is my first time hearing about it. Most excited about Project Dub Dub Dub.

Wild stuff, I wonder how far along Apple is with A.I. for Final Cut Pro, I'm sure they're seeing Adobe making magic and wanting to pull a bunny out too.
This is a great time to be filmmaker. That is what I believe!
Love IT!
I want it to look at a current edit I have of a wedding film, then take all the new wedding film footage and create a new highlight video in the style of my past work. Can it do that?
Loved the Dub, Dub, Dub feature...the multiple languages in my voice, that is spot on!
Regarding Project Rub a Dub Dub, are you saying that I could shoot a narrative film in English, then also turn it into a foreign language film?
So you're saying soon we can watch movies, where the actor has the same voice but a language of you're choice? That mind-blowing

The possibilities for content creation have just become much greater 😅. Exciting
Thrilled!
I wonder if it will have audio capabilities also - like easily removing background static/audio
Mindblowing!!
AI is ideal for me as I do all my work all alone (music, gfx, sfx, design, art and animation) :) I wait for AI to hit AfterEffects: “Please make a rig of this character” :)
I'm excited. I make videos for my channel and Sizzle Reels for work, this will offer a ton of opportunities for content. I'm sure at some point AI will offer up varieties of transitions to choose, now that would be cool.

Mattt, you trimmed the beard 😭
These sound amazing...but yeah, definitely nervous that we're also maybe creating a beast that will take some of our efforts/services out of the loop and make them less essential because a client may be able to do certain things on their own. I guess adjust and keep ahead of the pack, eh?!?
LOL, working as a director and photographer for agency work. When you will lose 90% of your work, I hope you are happy about the Ai. Because I had serious conversation internally about that. Even the agencies are in danger as their client might just do things completely internally now. I might escape it a little because I am old enough and experience enough, because at the end you will need someone to validate the add etc. But I find it comical for younger creative getting excited for something that will doom 90% of them.

I'm a commercial photographer (25 years) and immediately jumped into AI since it won't be long before a client asks if I know how you use / incorporate into my stills / video. I've been working hard to make AI generated images look like my style of shooting. When I post pics people ask if I'm in Sweden or Japan when they stories I post are made in my office..(I used to shoot lots of travel but not so much travel lately). Yesterday I posted "cinematic" images from 1960s Japan and someone wanted to know the name of the movie since it looked interesting...lol...

Is the AI going to get to the point where it takes out all the craft from photography/videography? Once it can create artificial light and adapt to any scene, will there be any craft left?
@Jwick1518

yes it's over for the pro. Trust me. I'm out after 30 years.

I'm super excited about all this from an artistic standpoint. I can think of SO many usage, and I can't wait to see old movies restored to their full glory using AI. From a societal standpoint though, this will increase propaganda tenfold and make it harder to know what's true and what's not. So whether this will be a good thing or a bad one in the long run remains to be seen.

These are genuine concerns, however I would note that there was only a brief moment in human history in which people could trust the veracity of anything they didn't see with their own eyes. (less than 100 years.) This will just be going back to the long era of human history in which people had to make a decision who and what to trust.
Working in post and VFX for more than 20 years, this is huge. IMO all this tech is here to make my work simpler and smarter. And the human input makes the difference at the end of the (work) day.
Have you seen any decent AI tools that allow you to increase shallow depth of field in post?

Yep, I am super excited about all these new features and like you, can see possibilities of how to use them in really creative ways to turbo charge projects…the dub-dub-dub project blew my mind and immediately saves tons of time and money…thanks for the updates
What about better color grading tools ??
I wonder if we'll see anything like this from Apple for FCP? My guess is not for a long time, if ever.
One thing that sets me apart from other filmmakers in the US is my ability to speak and write in both, English and Spanish.
