As mentioned recently, fun fact: The supernovas were a last minute (!) addition made by Oda after an editor (if I recall correctly) told him the arc still felt a bit flat. He came up with all those designs and abilities on the spot..

Here's an interesting fact for those that are new: All of the Admirals (and even a couple of potential Admirals as we see in the movies) have designs based on real life Japanese actors. To cover the ones we've seen: Aokiji was based off of Yusaku Matsuda, who is also the same design basis for Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop. Kizaru meanwhile is based off of Kunie Tanaka. Both actors have sadly passed away, Matsuda in 1989 and Tanaka in 2021, so he was alive for a while after Kizaru's introduction.

Fun fact: Kizaru's VA also had voiced Professor Oak in the OG Pokemon series!

I love that Kizaru vs rookies sequence. It really looks like he's moving faster than they can react.

Tbh, I think Kizaru could easily be the strongest admiral if he wasn't lazy and laid back all the time. He does everything effortlessly and doesn't want to apply any more effort than necessary.

Nah, I understand what you say and I thought so too but Oda himself confirmed that Akainu is the strongest of the three. Kisaru however is the one I think is the most balanced and has the most efficient skills.

For me he's the strongest to be honest.. He seems laid back, but I feel he's the best fighter out of the three. He doesn't waste time to attack and his attacks are always on point..

@Monty4Fitness Akainu has the most raw destructive power but he lacks the speed feats that Kizaru has. Akainu being so driven has probably driven him to higher heights of strength compared to the lax attitude of Kizaru. Kizaru is currently strong enough to fulfill all of his duties and with his personality, I'm doubtful he'd push himself to be any stronger than that.

It seems like you think Kuma is a robot that Vegpunk made. It was stated in Thriller Bark this is not the case. He is a Cyborg who used to be human, like Franky, who Vegapunk upgraded 👍

Barthlomew Kuma is the warlord. He ate the nikyu nikyu no mi (paw paw fruit). He is also modified cyborg like franky but has a devil fruit. Then there is The Pacifista. They are made by vegapunk and have the same body structure as kuma and light attacks similar to kizaru. They are not related to kuma or are kuma's brothers or some clones. It just that vegapunk designed there bodies like kuma's.

He calls Kizaru Oji-ki. oji does mean uncle (ki is an archaich honorific, now only used in Sumo or Jakuza environments), but it also means "middle-aged man", and specifically with that honorific is used withing the Yakuza to describe the main generals of the Oyabun, that literally means boss, but Oya means parent, and the kanji used for Oji means "uncle who's younger than my parent" (there a different kanji for "uncle who's older than my parent" but it's also read Oji). Based on Sentomaru's Sumo aesthetic, I believe she used Oji as middle-age man, with the sumo honorific -ki, and not the Yakuza "ojiki", or "mafia general/2nd in command". All of One Piece official translations to English are pretty bad

I agree that the official English translation tends to have some weak points, but in this case I'm not sure what the best way to translate this would be. It's not like they can put your entire paragraph into the subtitles every time Sentomaru refers to Kizaru. So while the subtitles may be inaccurate, for the sake of ease and function, they may have done the best they could do. Granted, I only speak English, so I'm saying this not knowing the nuances of Japanese to English translation.

@@DM-zh2kt He's like a samurai EDIT: At least there's a reason for that. A stupid reason, but a reason regardless. When Viz started translating One Piece, they wrote Zoro. It seems that if you manage to get one of the few first copies of Shonen Jump in English, they do say Zoro. But then the 4Kids dub started, and for what's said, apparently they had invested as much money in their legal team as in the quality of their products. They played with the fact that Ls and Rs in Japanese are equivalent, and chose to say Zolo because they were afraid of Disney, owner of the character Zorro (which Oda used as inspiration for Zoro) would sue them. The thing is, Disney cannot sue over the name Zorro because A) Even if the names are pronounced the same way in English, Zorro is written in Spanish, and it's pronounced way differently. and B) Zorro is a noun, it means Fox, so even if the name was Zorro, there's nothing Disney can do about it, because you cannot copyright a noun. You can copyright the stylization of the written name/logo, you can copyright the aesthetics of the character, but you cannot copyright common nouns. So 4Kids was never ever at risk of Disney suing them for copyright of the name, and even if they could, since 4Kids was only doing a localization, Disney would need to copyright Shueisha and Oda instead, as they were the ones who owned the character. As 4Kids changed the name, Viz decided to retroactively adopt Zolo as well, for coherence among both medias. Now, the only reason available for changing Going Merry to Merry Go is just ignorance of the fact that the final Go in Going Merry Go is a Japanese naval naming convention, like the SS in the USA. Ignorance and lack of the will to research.

@@HSuper_Lee CR subtitles are just bad quality. Poor translation, deliberate changes, but CR employees are paid peanuts, so they deliver an equivalent product. And no, with translations, you put the explanation once, and it doesn't need to be this in depth. This is not the problem here, though, but the fact that they chose the literal an wrong translation "uncle", instead like something like "old man" which is the intended meaning. To give you an example, let's say YOU are translating something from English to any other language, and you have to translate the words "load-bearing column". Now, instead of translating it as "a pillar that supports weight" you choose to write "a pillar that suffers weight", or even worse, "a pillar that in the shape of a fat bear". That's the problem here
