I notice some packers will use a rear mohair cinch on a round belly, about halfway back between the full point of the belly and the nipple area. Other packers keep the two cinches very close together, and use a britchin and breast collar.

A single cinch has to be tight to keep the pack saddle in place, focusing all the pressure on the center part of the animal’s ribs. Two cinches allow the pressure to be dispersed. Less pressure on the animal allows them to recover quicker after packing. The single cinch, because it must be tighter, can cause more stress which leads to more fatigue for the animal.
