Predator PDL. Favorite place so far is the savannah river for smallmouth. Hoping to find some new favorite places next year. May have to order one of those rudders. Got hung up in really shallow water during strong wind gusts. By the time I pushed my way free, the rudder was all kinds of bent. Got it partially corrected but it’s still wonky. Love that shirt!

Kathy, the metal rudder we made only replaces the plastic system. If you already have the metal version the design is a bit different. When I had my original metal rudder I bent it all of the place lol

I’ve also been having issues with my steering where it seems to get more stiff as the day goes on. I bought my 2020 predator PDL used, so now I’m thinking maybe the previous owner tightened too much. Thanks for the info! And favorite place as of now is probably Lake Toho in St. Cloud.

Easy fix. Just loosen those turnbuckles a bit.

I installed an Old Town rudder kit on my Sportsman 120 paddle and have found that it flexes way to much when I'm trying to make a fast turn in small rivers like my favorite; the Wapsipinicon in Iowa. I would love to replace the plastic rudder with yours. Thanks, Bill p.s. your rudder bolt fix worked great!

I’m in a 2020 predator pdl. And my favorite place to fish is the little maumelle river here in central Ark.

I posted on the OT Owners Group Facebook page a few weeks ago about how many threads should be showing where the rudder cables go into the kayak. Never got an answer. I'd heard of a couple of the screws coming loose while on the water and that fear had me tighten my up. I'll go check to see if they're too tight now. Thanks very much for the video. The seat risers and the prop nut are great additions to my kayak.

Jason, the cables stretch and can get rather sloppy. You were able to order (I’m not sure if you still can). If you can’t, you can purchase nylon spacers and place the between the Mets bracket and the kayak. If will reduce the slop. You will need to purchase four new screws to make up for the additional length. Overall it’s a cheap and easy solution.

I’m a huge fan of the March Camo. Best color i the new lineup in my opinion and I’m pretty sure we will be ordering 8 of them for the 2021 charter season.

2020 oldtown topwater 106 pdl... will fish anywhere theres water 😉

How tight should the rudder and steering be? I took my brand new 2022 Oldtown sportsmen 120 PDL out Sunday after buying it friday. It move's but it's tight and the rudder doesn't stay down the rudder handle wants to flip back.

My right side turn buckle keeps loosening up to the point it falls out leaving me rudderless. Do you recommend some kind of thread lock to prevent that. For now I put some Elmer's Glitter Glue on it. Silly but seems to have worked. PDL 106 - Lynhavven River.

I have never had to install anything on mine to get them to stay but if you glue is working I would just stick with it.

Old Town Topwater 120 PDL, Silver Lake, Washington

I have a Big water PDL 132 in the od green color. I called Old Town about a steering issue when I first bought the kayak. As the day wears on the steering becomes very difficult. Nobody could figure out why. Today it’s cloudy and the sun peeks out some. When the sun is shining on the kayak the cables get very tight. When it’s in the shade (cools off) the steering is easy. The cables are adjusted out as much as I dare. Do you know of any other fix for this?

I don’t believe we have but it’s simple. You would loosen the turnbuckles at the back of the kayak then remove the steering knob. The cable simple slides in and out of two tubes. Here’s a video removing the steering knob - kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKumzcZuYKbZdKg.htmlsi=ocNmY22d3J-VvH3q

I have a 2018 Old Town Predator Pdl and my favorite place to fish is Oriental, NC. I have a metal rudder, so I was wondering, can I tighten my cables the same as the 2020? Just watched the vid and it’s night time here, so I haven’t looked at my cables yet.

You can’t. You can add nylon spacers between the rudder bracket and the kayak. You will need longer screws but it will take up the slack.

Hello Kind Sir, do you have a source or recommendation for the rudder deployment cord material and grommet kit? A buddy just bought a 2018ish and its gonna need a deployment cord.

Reaching out to Old Town is the best bet.

Old town 106 pdl and favorite place to fish is the California Delta.

The only good rudder is a scratchy rudder. I've got an OldTown Sportsman 106... Bought a couple of items from you. I got the 1" risers.... haven't put them in yet. Regardless I'm looking forward to this video cause I hate a sloppy rudder. If there is any wind or strong tide, that's when the rudder is important. So far my FAVORITE PLACE TO FISH is Isle of Capri on the way to Marco Island SWFL. Love the vids. I'll have to go back and watch the other vid again.

William, you can purchase new cables or you can go to the local hardware store, purchase nylon spacers, and longer screws. You would remove the metal rudder bracket, install the spacers, then install the longer screws. Pretty simple.

I do not but I do have a 2018 Predator in the garage. I could make it happen if needed.

I have a 2020 OT 106 PDL and both of my rudder cables are loose and in need of adjustment but when I attempt to turn them as in the video they will not budge but I see your video example shows you turning them by hand? I do have one of your Navarre steering handles installed so am I supposed to do cable adjustments on the opposite end of the rudder and if not then why are mine so dang tight at the rudder. It would barely turn with a crescent wrench and nothing with the needle nose pliers! Certainly will not turn by hand. Do you think the kayak shop that assembled the kayak rudder may have put Loctite on the screws? Hope not!

They started putting loctite on the threads from the factory. I mentioned it in a video a while back. It’s a huge pain.

@@NavarreKayakFishing opposite the part you turn (the end of the cable) looks like plastic covering about 3/8 to1/2 inch of the very end, l don't see anything on the threads going into the plastic like piece. I took a pic but can't upload it here, l don't think.
