    Good video! To make the upper hook useful leave the tag end leader long, slide the upper hook all the way up and cut the leader in two. Add a small bead under the upper hook. Tie the two pieces of leader together using a bloodknot. The bloodknot becomes the 'stopper'. A drop of super glue on both the upper snell and the bloodknot give you enough leverage to set the hook and fight a fish using the top hook. If youre only using this to keep a bait inline then stretchy thread or dental rubber bands will achieve the same result. good luck!

    Charter boat captain told me “Do not use braid to tie the sliding hook. Once braid gets wet, it slides too much and your bait will constantly need adjustment. Use mono for a more secure hold.” Bottom fishing at about 240 feet

    I know an adjustable method, like an easier adjustable method, take you leader snell on the hook you want to use for the live bait, preferably a 1/0 or bigger and take another hook and slide it down the leader line making sure that the hook point or body is going the same direction as the bottom hook you snelled on earlier.(remember the size of the hooks varies for what sort of bait and how big the fishes are that you are going to catch) so you will have a sliding hook on the leader line so you can adjust where the hook goes in the bait...BUT make sure the sliding hook's point and body goes the same way as the snelled hook this is very important. and you can tie a swivel on top of the leader and put a sinker on your main line then tie the swivel leader and hooks all together like a carolina rig.

    I don't like how the top hook slides. What happens when you set the hook and the top hook is the one digging in. You would get a poor hookset or a dropped fish. Why even have the top hook if it's not doing it's job? Double snell both hooks with the line. Lose the braid.

  • @saskaleb

    @saskaleb

    8 жыл бұрын

    You missed the whole point of having the sliding top hook. As mentionned in the video, it s purpose is to hold long bait straight on the line and prevent it from dropping down for long casting. You can also use elastic wire to hold it but this method is better because if u have a long big bait the fish can bite up and u ll loose it, with the small hook up you will catch, it is not true that u ll have a weak hooking, i tried it and i am catching on the up hook the same as main hook. It has to be sliding in order to position it correctly depending on bait size.

    *Perfect size hook for hatchery catfish that weigh between 3-5 lbs. my lip hook almost all the time unless your bait is very much desired by the fish>>> **allabout.wiki/1004** It's very durable made from hardened steel, I believe. You can use it over and over. It never rusts in my tackle bag. I use a knot less snell with a 25 lb mono filament leader line from Kastking for this hook. Its point is very sharp and can easily land a thieving fish. We landed many catfish with this hook. Best purchased in packs of 25 which should last you throughout the season.*

    I am fisher myself, but have to say that using alive fish as a bait is torture for the fish. Alive fish should not NEVER be used as a bait. That is pure cruelty to animals. Please do not spread this kind of instructions to others which are torture for the animals. Fish also feel pain and suffer like other vertebrates do. All fish that are caught for eating must be handled carefully to reduce stress and humanely killed as soon as possible after capture. Humane killing requires that the fish is stunned (rendered instantaneously insensible) before being bled out. Percussive stunning involves a forceful and accurate blow to the head with a blunt instrument. The force required will depend on the size of the fish. The blow should be aimed just above the eyes to impact on the brain. The effectiveness of the stun should be checked and another blow applied if the fish is not unconscious. After stunning the fish should be bled out by cutting the gill rakers or, with larger fish, a main artery. With the very small fish breaking the neck is good way to kill. Just put your thumb or other finger to the mouth of the fish and quickly make a move upwards. All this is important because fish also feel pain and suffer. Pain and suffer of the feeling animals must be minimized. When the fish is in pain and suffering, the fish also produce stress hormone. Stress hormone makes the meat of the fish taste worst and stress hormone also reduce keeping quality. Tight lines!

    Prynce Al the point is to avoid UNNECESSARY pain, suffering and stress. There is many things what a fisher can do to minimize the pain and the suffering of the fish. Kill the fish immediately and properly after catching the fish is one way to do that. Suffocating is horrible way to die for any animal. Drying eyes of the fish and wound which have come in the fishing process cause pain and of course suffocating is very bad. Also innards or viscus of the fish are huddled together because water is not holding up the fish. Using alive bait is so clear torture for the fish that of course alive fish should not be used as bait. You can get fish also with dead or artificial bait. Alive fish as a bait is totally unnecessary cruelty to animals. After all we fishers take all away from the animal, which is their life. Least what we can do is to avoid unnecessary pain, suffering and stress. Or else we are total assholes... And by the way you can not look some cases or incidents in the wilderness and use that as a foundation of your actions, moral and human behavior. That is common mistake called naturalistic fallacy(you can check that from the google...) After all you are a human and your humanity is redeemed by living through reason, empathy and morals. I think that you would not like or accept if you would be the target of the actions which are copied from the some events which happen in the wild...? So why you want to base your on actions by looking how the fish are behaving? Are not you more than a fish or not? It is ridiculous if someone takes action model from the nature when that is supporting person's own point of view and if not then the person will abandon the naturalistic point of view.

    By the way here is an awesome site which shows proper killing techniques by using spiking(iki jime) method. www.ikijime.com/fish/brown-bullhead/ On the site you can use the search function to find x-ray pictures of the different fish species around the world and there is also other information. X-ray pictures are because that helps the fisher to find the brain of the fish for killing. The killing tool is metal spike.
