The only issues I see speed having are now, like if this is a legit thing he's dealing with. Of course there are going to be issues if he's figuring stuff out about sexuality, that comes with it. It looks like he's made the choice to figure stuff out, and if he knows there are potential challenges to that and accepts that, then I think it's fine.
