Adidas The Total Review | A Breath of Fresh Air...

SHOP THIS SHOE: amzn.to/48JxY3n
READ MY ADIDAS THE TOTAL REVIEW: thatfitfriend....
The Total is the latest weight training-focused shoe to come out from Adidas. This model delivers a lot of key construction details that make them great for lifting.
For example, the Adidas The Total features a wide toe box, a 0mm heel-to-toe drop, grippy rubber outsole, low stack height, and an additional midfoot strap. The culmination of these makes The Total a good shoe for things like deadlifts, squats, and much more.
In this review of The Total from Adidas, I'm going to cover a variety of topics to help you decide if this shoe is a good fit for you.
0:00 The Total Pros
2:20 The Total Cons
2:56 Performance
5:11 Who are these best for?
5:40 Sizing and Fit
6:22 Price
6:53 Drop, Weight, and Insole
7:16 Construction
9:07 Final Thoughts
Overall, I'm a fan of The Total from Adidas and think they can be a solid option to explore for lifters from all walks of life.
If you like lifting with zero-drop shoes and want a model that can hold its own for deadlifts and other exercises, then I think The total is worth looking into.
This model isn't going to deliver the most versatile performance, so they won't be the strongest for things like HIIT, cross-training, etc., so make sure you understand their specificity/intent before investing.

  • @thatfitfriend

    @thatfitfriend

    2 жыл бұрын

    All so different! In this mix, you have 2 weightlifting shoes, 2 cross trainers, a lifting-focused zero drop model. These shoes will have different fits and feels. If your goal is versatility, pass on the weightlifting shoes. IMO, they’d be a worthwhile investment down the road when you want a shoe with a heel elevation for specific exercises. X2 and Metcon 8 will give you the best all-around performance. 8 fits more narrow and is better for lifting, X2 is wider and works decently for most things. Total is great for wide feet, but has a zero drop construction which may feel different for you and you’ll need to acclimate to them if you’ve been using shoes with higher drops. Plus, if your anatomy doesn’t necessarily align with zero drop shoes you’ll want to explore using a wedge or lifting shoes to support performance!

    you are really on point with your shoes man haha i see you have longer legs and short torso just as me iam now squatting lowbar on nike romaleos but when i go heavier i lose my balance and tipping forward a bit do you have the same problem? ive filmed myself from diffrent angles in socks and romaleos with socks i feel way more balanced but iam a little more bend over because of my long legs (almost good morning style) and with the romaleos iam a bit more upright it looks better on video but doesnt veel better of you know what i mean... some people say a little less heel feels better maybe the adidas powerlifts with a 0.5 inch heel instead of 0.75 but does this really makes a big difference? normally i just deadlift on socks in the gym so wanna hear your opinion on the shoes should i buy a 0.5 heel or going to maybe this shoe for squats i see you have a video on the new adidas too the 5s i believe is this also a 0.5 inch heel?

  • @thatfitfriend

    @thatfitfriend

    2 жыл бұрын

    Try ditching the heel for your low-bar squats and using a flatter shoe/going barefoot! Elevated heels can create that folding chair positioning at times for lifters squatting low-bar with long legs. It really depends though because it's tough to say without seeing your form. When going high-bar and working on torso mechanics, the heel will come in handy for your build! The Powerlift's heel is .6". IMO, I wouldn't stress the .6" vs .75" difference in this context and I'd save the money and not invest in a new pair of weightlifting shoes just yet!

  • @rafamusidlak242
    @rafamusidlak242 Жыл бұрын

    Hi, I'm considering the purchase of this model or "powerlift 5" you have also reviewed on your your channel. Which one would you recommend? I need shoes for lifting but I also do more dynamic exercises like jumps and burpees. I know elevated heels help at squats etc but don't they interfere with the other exercises? perhaps flat treads will be better?

  • @thatfitfriend

    @thatfitfriend

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey! So with these models you're going to have super different fits and feels. The Total is a zero-drop shoes and the Powerlift 5 is weightlifting shoe. In the context of use cases, you'll want to keep the Powerlift 5 to squats, clean & jerks, snatches, and other quad-focused exercises, they won't be the model for jumps, HIIT, etc. The Total will be a little more versatile and can work in those contexts, but you may be better suited going for a good stable cross-training shoes if your priority is versatility and moving weight versus a heavier bias on strength training! If you're dead set on these two, go The Total, but just note that a 0mm heel-to-toe drop versus the .6" in the Powerlift 5 will translate different for squat performance which isn't necessarily a bad nor good thing, just something to keep in mind when comparing different shoes to weightlifting shoes.

  • @thatfitfriend

    @thatfitfriend

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question. Tough to compare, though, because the Xero is more or less a true barefoot shoe whereas the Total does have a little more cushion/stack height. IMO, if you want more width and to get as close to the ground as possible between these two - I'd go with the Forza. They're both pretty solid, though, low-key, and I think you'd be happy with either.

    @@thatfitfriend Just came back from leg day: incline treadmill walking for warmups, barbell squats, laying ham curls, seated calf raises in the adjustable leg press and finishing off with narrow foot leg press in a loaded leg press machine. The shoes are too big, I need to go a size smaller. I felt like walking around with clown shoes at some point, yet I already went down a size before picking them up. Yet, they still fit well and feel good. Lovely combo of flat with a little padding. Doesn’t feel unstable and it feels good to adjust laces on the fly and tightness with the Velcro strap. I’ll return them and try to get a smaller size. My issue in general is that I tend to have a wider front of foot compared to length, but with the way they are fitted and designed they open and spread nicely around the toe knuckles. Wouldn’t use them for anything other than weightlifting and stability though.

    I haven’t, but they’re on my list of slippers to dive into. I thought these did a fairly good job with sumo. I don’t think grip/stability will be an issue with these versus the Notorious. • @thatfitfriend

    @thatfitfriend

    Жыл бұрын

    It likely has to do with the stack height and midsole compression. In the Altra you’ll have the forefoot compress at a faster rate so it likely feels that your heel is higher than your forefoot in then whereas the Adidas don’t compress and keep your feet flatter. Just my guess!
