This is my all-time favorite adidas model and OG runner across all brands. It is the successor to the 1971 adidas Dragon. adidas only retros the SL72 just before or during an Olympic year. It debuted with the trefoil logo - first adi-model to bear the logo - and the Adilette Slide. Successors to the SL72 are the SL76, SL80, SL Loop, and the SL20 which is now the adizero SL. The SL72 RS is a brand new build - The last and mould/tooling are new. More room was added to the toebox. The midsole was changed from rubber to EVA and it’s much thicker than the OG. The old box logo stamp - which wasn’t always used on the SLs - was added. The SL72 “OG” is built from the old last and mould/tooling. Wales Bonner, Lott Volkova, and NOAH produced upscale collabs on the “OG” SL72. I wrote about the SL72 quite a few times on my blog. ✌🏽💙👟

Nike, Adidas, New Balance.... I know you guys read the comments section, so please read my words: PLEASE GIVE US CASUAL SNEAKERS WITH YOUR FOAMS! As much as I love this retro sneakers, I can't wear them because the cushioning SUCKS.

I’ve always been a fan of the SL 72. I have some old pairs from 2015. And have two others from a couple of years ago. What I noticed on the RS compared to traditional is a slightly wider base, taller sole, and cushioning. Ended up getting the blue pair and the brown. Glad you reviewed these!

Bought the blue and the yellow pair. They are outstanding imo, gives you a slightly elevated feel as they have a bigger heal. The toe rubber is bigger than the original but smaller than the releases from 2000/2012 which i feel they have found the better size. Hope they do similar to sl76. Also with standard trainers creeping towards £120, £85 is a great price

This reminds me of me of the Deagon but with a heel. I am still waiting for the Dragons to return. I am gonna get a pair of this.

i have retro's from 2004 or 05' but ive wanted to try these with the softer midsole ...i like the old ones so i think these should be more comfortable.

I really wanna know if the RS version is more comfortable than the 72s because I want more cushioning but the colourways are nicer on the 72s

These are actually super clean

Back in 1997, I owned a pair of these shoes that lasted me 17 years. I still have them somewhere in the garage. When I relocated to Dubai, I was thrilled to learn that they were relaunched. Without hesitation, I decided to purchase another pair. I replaced the laces from white to blue, which makes the stripes stand out. These shoes are among the most comfortable and durable ones I've ever purchased. I'm definitely planning to buy the green and yellow ones soon

The rubber bumper on the toe box looks squarer on the RS version. Which I think I prefer.

A couple of my high school cross country teammates got these back in '72 and I've liked them ever since, but never owned a pair. I think I'll finally own a pair or two. FWIW, the original didn't have the red insert in the mid-sole, even though the ad in the video shows it. Also, the original had a nylon covered foam tongue with a sewn on adidas label like a lot of shoes back then. But I'd say they did a nice job on this re-issue.

Glad to see some else also remembers the fine details. The original didn't have the rubber protector at the front either, and the side stripes extended all the way down to to the sole - and the lace loop along the instep was white leather. In fact, just watch the Starsky&H reruns, series one in particular or the pre-series publicity shots. I would have almost killed for a pair in '72 but didn't manage to get some until the '76 revised versions in green and yellow - favourite ever shoes!

These are way way more comfortable than the Gazelles and Samba. The green/yellow/black SL RS the best colourway of the bunch. Difference between OG SL and SL RS is the forefoot area midsole/outsole is slightly thicker on the newer RS version. Also the front rubber in the toebox of the RS is flatter while the OG version is rounded and gives a sharper front end look to the sneaker. The SL 72 reminded me of the classic/vintage Adidas Hurricane from the 70's

Love seeing the Win Nautica collection on the KZreadrs with taste and distinction. It looks good on yall. You shoulda paired some of his collection in a fit with these Adidas.

@jtrigas personally, the sambas for me are uncomfortable. But they do use good materials for the construction. Wish they used the lightstrike pro (more comfort ) on these classic shoes .

@@garythomas4431 I beg to differ--the pilot ran on April 30, 1975 as an ABC "Movie of the Week", and the subsequent series was given the greenlight on September 10, 1975. I suspect he initially wore the 72s and then transitioned the 76s in the show's 2nd season. In fact, there was a limited re-release of the 76s in 2004 (model: SL-76 S&H), which coincided with the reboot film starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. I found an ad for this model, which has the tag line, "Dave Starsky wore them back then, he still wears them today: the SL-76."

@@kevincollins8620 isn’t it crazy to see the HBS having a moment? It was always an “if you know you” shoe. Did you see adidas did a lifestyle version of the Pred 24? They use modern mesh, and they put a LIGHTSTRIKE puck in the cupsole. ‘Totally modern tech with a OG look. ✌🏽💙👟
