Adidas Leistung 16 2.0 - NOT for Everyone

Adidas Leistung 16 2.0
The FULL Review: barbend.com/adidas-leistung-1...
In this Adidas Leistung 16 2.0 review, we assessed how this shoe performs, who it's best for, and if it is worth it.
Shop the Leistung: www.roguefitness.com/adidas-l...
Let's cut to the chase, the Adidas Leistung 16 2.0 is designed specifically for weightlifting. It offers multiple construction characteristics to promote stability under a barbell and support an upright torso in the catch of Olympic lifts.
(Note: We receive free products to review and participate in affiliate programs, where we are compensated for items purchased through links from our site. See our disclosure page on BarBend.com for details: barbend.com/additional-discla...)
In respects to the most defining construction characteristics of the Adidas Leistung 16 2.0, there are three big ones worth paying attention to.
1. 1" TPU Heel
2. BOA Lacing System
3. Weightlifting Specific Chassis
Again, all of these features are designed specifically to enhance an athlete's ability to catch weight and maintain their upright torso/body positioning. And while a higher heel can be great for multiple reasons, it's not for everyone.
For example, there are two athletes that may have trouble obtaining the full benefit of the Adidas Leistung 16 2.0.
1. Beginners - If you've never worn a weightlifting shoe, then jumping right to 1" heel may be problematic.
2. Powerlifters/Low-Bar Squatters - If you squat more with a low-bar style, then the 1" heel may feel awkward when it comes to squat movement patterns.
Out of every weightlifting shoe we've review, the Adidas Leistung 16 2.0 is definitely one of the most unique models on the market!

    It is steep, that's not wrong. In my opinion, it's hard to get a 1" heel to not feel too steep though. They similar to a new pair of boots in respects to their gradient, but it wasn't off putting - it just took time getting used to! - Jake

    How does it compare to a romaleos 2? I have a pair of the romaleos 2(9.5 US) and I am considering buying a pair of leistungs cause they are on sale in ebay for 60 US and want to try a new pair of shoes for a change. Compared to ROmaleos 2, Did you go a half size up or down? Finally, does the shoe expand a lot with long term use? Hope to hear from you and great vid. Thanks :)

    Man, that's tough because I love the Rom 2s. The heel is higher and the mid-foot feels much more tight. In re: sizing: I would say stay true to size for the Adis and with expansion - not too much. - Jake

    Adidas screwed up badly listening to people whining about no laces or straps. I use the og 16 with just the boa and those things are awesome. Pop them on in a second, tighten, do a few sets and let the foot/shoe settle, tighten again and they stay that way. This clumsy 2.0 revision has some strange movement in the lacing area around the boa.

    Hey Barbend, I am planning to get one brand new Leistung and one-second hand Nike Romaleos 2 (saw one at 10.5) will have the two ship here in the Philippines. I'm just concerned with the size before I buy the two and a few insights from you will definitely help. I currently have Adipower at size 10.5 and took months for the break-in phase back in 2016. I heard from another WL channel (As Many Reviews as Possible) that when buying the Leistung he recommended to get an inch or a half inch more than the size of your Adipower This means I need to buy the 11 or 11.5 instead of the 10.5, for the Leistung. I'd like to know your feedback if you had the same concern in comparing the size difference of Adipower and Leistung. Lastly, if Adipower 10.5 fits perfectly for me, will a Nike Roma 2 at 10.5 fit the same as well? or do you recommend a 10 or 11 instead? That's all bro, love your channel and its reviews plus I also get links from your website too. All love and support, thank you.

    Hey dude! With the Leistung, I'd say size up a 1/2 size to be safe, so go 11. That will give you a little extra toe box room in the event it's a bit tight. With the Rom 2s, you should be safe with the 10.5, solely because they're tougher to find, so if you have a pair in your reach, I'd say snag them! - Jake

  • @Barbend

    @Barbend

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yeah! Personally, I love Converse and the Adidas Powerlift models. I like flatter/lower heels (Powerlift has .6") for low-bar because I'm essentially a daddy long leg spider (long ass legs). However, that's my take and you'll see other lifters lift in things like Roms/Legacys/etc. I'd base your shoe off femur length, hip anatomy, and squat style. If you can, play around with a flatter shoe/go barefoot and try a lifter out and see which you prefer/what feels most comfortable. - Jake

    If you are looking for a new pair in the future the Adidas CrazyPower (if designated-RK, not TR). They have a hightop version and a lowtop. I wish BarBend had a review on these because I think they are amazing and nobody knows about them. There are only a couple reviews out there and they feel the same as I do. Can be found cheap on Ebay and Amazon. Retailed $175, I have both versions, paid $45 and $60. I tried the powerlift 4 against both the models and they did not even come close. They felt cheap and mushy.

    I wear jogger boots all day at work and actually squat well in them , if your used to a longer heel, do you still think the 1 inch lift would be to much for a beginner never having used weightlifting shoes. Also , I'm not looking to complete my while workout in these , just squat and maybe some oly style lifts. Thanks!!

  • @Barbend

    @Barbend

    5 жыл бұрын

    Great question. I think they would be fine for you if you're used to that height of heel, however, how is your ankle mobility? Often times, wearing elevated heels all day can limit ankle ROM, so I would assess that before pulling the trigger on a shoe solely based on synonymous heel heights. This way, if you notice your ROM isn't incredibly great, then buying a lower heel could be useful for forcing you to improve in that area & it would decrease the time your ankle is sitting at that elevated height. - Jake

    I don't agree regarding " this heel will change your squat stance ". I think that any new elevated shoe will change the squat stance for beginners. It is not a reason not to get these.

  • @Barbend

    @Barbend

    5 жыл бұрын

    Not stance - patterning. There's a difference. Stance change is a byproduct of a change in mechanics. I agree that that any elevated heel will change one's squat patterning. However, my rationale was rooted in the idea that if you're wearing a flat outsole, then jumping to 1" is pretty drastic for beginners, especially potentially a population who are still working to improve their mechanics. A lifter with a lower heel will (in my coaching experience) will help with the acclimation period to adjusting for the new shoe style. At the end of the day, if you're a true beginner and still working on your mechanics, why would you want to go from a flat outsole to 1" heel? That heel height will change nearly every joint angle in the squat to some degree, which is not productive for this lifting population, IMO. - Jake

    The most uncomfortable shoe I have ever had displeasure of putting on my feet. I would rather squat in bare feet than wear those things. My feet are probably just slightly wider than average, so if you have similar shaped feet I would not get Leistungs. I would probably go with Reebok Legacy Lifters or similar.
