    Since this is being asked in the comments I’m currently planning to do the following comparison “vs” videos for the Takumi Sen 10; - TS10 vs Adios 9 - TS10 vs Deviate Nitro 3 - TS10 vs Streakfly 2 (Obviously when all those shoes release). - TS10 vs Vaporfly Next% 2 (given some recent elite half marathon results this seems like an apt comparison and I have an almost new pair of VF2 in US Men’s 9.5)

    I own the DVN2 MS & DVN2 Elite MS. Great trainers that you can use on race day as well. Lots of bounce & springy underfoot. Though the Elite seems more balanced, and dialed in for shorter distances for me. The DVN2 I think is great, and better for longer distances. Though feels a little unstable at times, especially on uneven surfaces. For further context, I tend to pronate on one foot more then the other. 🦶

    The TS10 is very pleasant to heel strike in. I don’t go into this in the video (I already had alot to cover)… but the redesigned lateral rail on the midsole/outsole really captures your foot much better and moves the foot to center to engage the tech of the shoe and the forefoot. It very well could be the shoe to help you improve. Thank you for the support! 🤙🏻

    Great thorough review! As a Boston 12 fan I will add this to my list of shoes to try once it is available in the USA. I Just finished a 10 Mile in the Edge Paris and it has a lot more in common with the VF3 than the Edge+ so much so that I don’t see a need to own both the VF3 and Edge Paris. Fit is snug in the toe box on the Edge Paris but no discomfort or rubbing with the upper. Same tongue as the Edge/Sky+ that you have to align perfectly but great lockdown with the same laces as the previous version. There is a little more padding in the heel. The midsole feels like it is pushing up on my arch but very cushiony. It does not get me up on my toes like the VF2 did or push me forward as much as the Edge+. It is the lightest of the 3 but seems to have the most cushioning. Not much lateral support and you can really notice it on uneven pavement or going over any divets in the road. Grip was great even on corners it was a dry day. The colorway is more of a Traffic Cone Orange than a Sunrise Red in person 😂

  • @SagasuRunning

    @SagasuRunning

    3 ай бұрын

    The Edge Paris is a great shoe and the TS10 pairs very well with it. I do think there is a reason to own a VF3 still. They are different shoes, with much overlap, but have different pluses (see my “vs”). Agree on the traffic cone colorway. Color correcting any video with the Paris series is a challenge. Even worst than the like green Novablast 4!

    Those changes to the heel design is nice to see. I always felt the Takumi Sen was a great shoe with WAY more range than people gave it credit for. I know I can take the shoe to race the half marathon. And use it for faster efforts, working to reduce my cadence and overall foot strength. I only have 380km on my Takumi Sen8's but seems like the 10 might be worth the upgrade once I feel my V8's are ready for retirement or maybe earlier...I have 8 weeks left on my current marathon block, but then I want to throw in a mini 5k/10k block ahead of my Chicago build and this upgrade might become a huge part of that block. Great review! It sounds like the upgrades to the TS10 are pretty significant. Especially with the fit, rods & versatility. I am looking at the Boston 12 as well. When I tried on the Boston 12, my first impression was that it was very stiff. I am interested in trying on the TS10 to see how it feels. I also wonder how the durability will be on the TS10 since that Continental rubber is only on certain parts of the outsole. Thanks!

  • @SagasuRunning

    @SagasuRunning

    2 ай бұрын

    While the TS10 uses the exact same rods and material as the B12 it is slightly less stiff given it has less foam in it and uses only LSP and no LS2.0. Also, I believe the outsole on the TS10 is all Continental rubber, included the lateral strip and in the heel. It’s a similar compound to what you find on the Adios Pro 3.

    @@SagasuRunningPlus I'll be very interested in your VF2 Next% vs TS10 comparison: the reason is I recently compared TS9 vs VF2 Next% over 400-800m repeats and found that TS9 was slightly more demanding in terms of both average heart rate and normalized power at exactly the same repetition pace(s): the conclusion I drew was that energy roads weren't as helpful (at least for me) as a full length carbon plate. Now with the description you gave of TS10 , it seems to me they're moving closer to a full plate (perhaps loosing a bit of shoe nimbleness) and I'd expect the efficiency of the shoe to increase. I also had to go 1/2 size up when I tried the Takumi 10. When running on the treadmill I felt a poking pain in the arch of my foot, most noticeable on the right foot when I went true to size, going up by 1/2 size the pain went away. I didn't notice this when standing and just walking around the store when I did the fitting. I also didn't have this problem on the Takumi 9 so I would recommend going to a physical store when buying this shoe, preferably a store with a treadmill. I prefer the ride of the 9 better than the 10 but yes the upper on the 10 was way better specially when you take time dialing in the lacing. Also by removing the stitching on the heel tab allows it to flex more, alleviating any rubbing on the Achilles tendon.

    Good review and has me considering the 10. I have the 9 and also had some discomfort in the shoe that I couldn't explain initially but using some Boots padded strapping tape behind the tongue and the inner ankle at the top has it feeling decent. I've enjoyed it for longer runs with intervals (eg 13.8 with 7 x 2000, 1000 rec yesterday) given they're fast but are as cushioned as my standard training shoes (Altra Rivera 2) Not sure it's faster for 5k than the Reebok Floatride RunFast Pro though based on progressive runs I've done and the data from them. That's probably made a big difference to how the upper works for me and I remember when I changed them, the shoe felt different just wearing them in the house. I'm generally happy with the 9 for training now. Vs standard shoes it isn't stable (not one I'd want to run in with lower leg niggles as I found a few weeks back) so if the 10 was faster and more stable, I'd look at that in the future. The one concern I have about this shoe is that I've seen quite a few comments about tendency to pronate, especially at easier paces which you mentioned are possible in this model 10. Not sure if that pronation comes from the rods. the midsole cut-out or maybe from people heel striking when the shoe has "forefoot bias" as you say. Do you experience any of that tendency to pronate?

    I did. The lateral rail on the midsole design, that long lateral piece of rubber basically…. Does pitch the foot inward a bit, especially in the first 10-15k. Once the shoe broke in and softened up/conformed to my foot I no longer noticed it at any pace.

    Always impressed how you can find so many changes between two versions of a shoe that appear to be more or less the same and indeed I got that sort of vibe from other reviews have seen. Can't speak from experience on the 10 as adidas seem to have got "bored" again making larger sizes so have never see it in a UK 13.5/US 14 and curiously adidas UK have always shown the very rare UK 13/US 13.5 and UK 14/US 14.5 as greyed out. I did have the 9 and indeed did find it "niche". It was kind of shoe I put to do some intervals but thought yeah this is fine but really offers nothing tangible over Vaporflys. I did sort of by accident take it out for 15 miles last summer as I did a long warm up, a long serious of intervals and then rather stupidly did about another 10K warm down and the ankle niggle I had the time got really bad and not worn them since. As such even if the 10 did come out in my size, I am not sure other than FOMO what would use it for although great to hear it is better than the Boston 12 so, for me, would save almost 100g :) Oh and sizing is "odd". I see on adidas UK they even say to go up 0.5 but the customer reviews put the sizing squarely as "perfect". At least for my narrow feet the 9 fits well and I would say "TTS". I did try the 8 a whole size down before passing on and maybe that one was a fraction "long" so just about got away with it. From what you are saying the 10 could effectively fit a whole size less than the 8 then ? How shoes fit is interesting. By and large (if you can take it out) the insole of a shoe is exactly as the advertised cm size (for me 32.0 versus my actual 30.2 cm) but often adjustments don't seem to made enough for a padded or not tongue or a stiffer or baggy toe bumper which obviously impacts the effective length. Worse for me was a UA shoe which had so much heel padding it threw way too way forward.

    I mean… that is sort of what I do here on my channel. Observe details other people don’t mention… The Takumi Sen feels like a separate groups, outside of the main Adizero team, handles it. The size for Adizero shoes is consistent, the last is similar and the fit is similar… then the Takumi Sen happens and it is always different. Not sure what is going on there.

    What a TS10 should offer over a Vaporfly is that it costs half as much and the Lightstrike Pro midsole should have substantially longer useful life. On the other hand it is probably notably heavier. I can’t see choosing to race anything over half marathon (or even a half) in a Takumi Sen 8/9/10 if you had a Vaporfly/Alphafly or Endorphin Pro/Elite, or Metaspeed Paris. It does sound like maybe Adidas has developed a modern materials shoe that works like a really good old school flat. And if so, that’s a fun and useful training tool. That is if they will stock your size.

Not really enough noticeable for me to think I can't run in that one but can in this one etc etc. I guess the other thing with these supposed 5K "race" shoes is that in my shoeoff tests to date never found they offer me any real advantage whatsoever over the higher stacked ones. Perhaps why of late that, if in doubt, just reach for a Vaporfly for a relatively fast outing. @brianreiter5572 I think that is right. The 9US VF3 is 6.5oz and the 9.5US TS10 is 7.1 (US9 is likely 6.9 or 7.0) so the TS10 is slightly heavier… but it would be hard to notice unless you had one on each foot. The TS10 has better grip and doesn’t get in the way with the rocker like the VF2 could. For a 5/10k it would be a tough call which to pick. For a half I would pick the rocketed shoe, definitely. Though I could run a half in the TS10 no problem. I think for training, any run up to 25k should be fine in the TS10. Any longer I’ll just go up to a race shoe.

The shoe responds to you and works with you… but it’s not helping you like a rocker thick super shoe. I see you are coming around to my way of thinking in which the “tempo trainer” like the Boston 12 has no purpose. I would rather use an Adios Pro 3 for any long run I might have used a Boston 12 for and a TS Eliot or even an Adios 8 for any easy days. I’m still on my second pair of Takumi Sen 8 which I use along with the Adios 8 for workouts. I never had the 9 and like the Boston 11 I’m not convinced it was an upgrade. There was an outsole glue defect in the blue first pair I had and the lateral heel on one side delaminated during a hilly half marathon. I ended up trimming the rubber back but this was almost entirely cosmetic. The Takumi Sen is a strange range. It went from being a Japanese low-drop forefoot strike marathon shoe to unavailable to kind of a cross country specialist and then a detuned Adios Pro. The TS 7 was an interesting design with the cool Japanese plastic knobs outsole but very, very harsh and niche - even more so than an Adios 7. I really like the Takumi Sen 3 as an all-around shoe but it became unobtainable for me and I moved on to the Streak 6 and stayed in that as my go-to until Nike stopped making them. When I first got the Takumi Sen 8 I thought it was going to be a new Streak 7. But it didn’t work out that way. There are subtle weirdnesses that relegate it to a workout or race shoe for me. I find the midsole is kind of wobbly in certain situations - which I think is the sensation of collapse you describe. The Lightstrike Pro needs tweaked stabilization. Maybe they have cracked it and settled into something more like a modernized performance all-rounder like a Saucony Speed. For some reason the Takumi Sen 10 is out of stock in 13US in the US market. I’m excited to move on to the TS10 this spring or summer when they restock in new colorways.

    I’ve been in your way of thinking for a while. I just was enjoying the B12 this year. I’m not typically one who likes to have a “tempo shoe” as I’d rather just do that in my face shoe. I never had any of the older Takumi Sens, they were always mythical to me. I ran in Adios and Boston (and Streaks) frequently… but Takumi Sen/Ren was never available in the US. I did hold the TS3 in my hand once while in Japan at an Adidas store… but I was a cyclist back then and could justify buying it. I used to run with someone back in Brooklyn who ran in the TS7. I was always amazed at them… that was when I thought of the Nike Turbo as a cushioned shoe and the Streak 7 was my daily shoe. He had two pairs and would alternate them. He also had a Boston 5 that was his “recovery” shoe… I was jealous of those too as by then the pair I had of them was long gone. The TS10 rollout has been very odd, as has all Adidas releases in 2024. Very hot or miss and country dependent.

  • @TimGrose

    Yeah the Boston 12 for me also does serve limited purpose. It is fairly heavy in my size too which kind of defeats the point for me of a "tempo trainer". Agree for a long run would choose an Adios Pro 3 over it but I guess if the Adios Pro 3 was my actual race shoe might then not want to use it too often unless that long run had elements of harder bits. I had one "older" Takumi Sen but recall it came up really short so back when adidas only went up to a size less than I now take anyway a shoe 1.5 to 2 sizes too small was a non starter. That said it made the regular Adios look "max stack" which we now think of as a pure racing flat when really it was that period's attempt at a marathon racing shoe.

The TS10 is much better than the TS8/9… but it’s still not a wide shoe. I wear a US 9 in major shoes, including all Adidas shoes, and I had to size up to a US 9.5 in the TS10. Also, if you find the B12 soft (which I can’t think of anyone I’ve ever heard describe it as such)… the Takumi Sen will feel even softer as it is all Lightstrike Pro. You may want to look at Brooks shoes as they have firmer foams or look at Saucony as they are generally have more stable models (but much softer than Adidas).

    For your unique use case… I could see it, however I think you’d be better off in the Adios 8. You don’t need the energy rods in the Takumi Sen. However the torsion system in the Adios 8 will be good for you for daily running.

    I’ve never run in the Prime X, but can confirm the lockdown and fit of the TS10, a half size up from my normal size, is excellent. I wear a US 9 in the Boston 12, Adios 8 and Adios Pro 3 and all fit as expected. Though the upper on the AP3 is awful the sizing is correct. If anything the B12 is a little long, but for a trainer it’s good.

    No… it’s a super shoe, a racer, not a trainer. The Adios is now the successor to the old Bostons… If Adidas ever resurrect the Takumi Ren, which was the trainer to the Sen, then maybe… but I don’t expect that to happen.

  • @SagasuRunning

    I find this shoe exceptionally fast, the low stack and lack for significant rocker make it optimal for very fast running. Yes, Adizero laces are bad. All Adizero shoes (except the SL) have the same thin laces than can dig into the top of your foot. However, you eventually learn how to deal with them.

Both Nike and Asics have figured out how to make lightweight and good laces for their race shoes. Interesting the laces in the Supernova Rise are very good and would be an upgrade to many Adizero laces…
