Adiabatic thermomechanical stress analysis in Abaqus: Upsetting of a cylinder

In this video adiabatic analysis of upsetting of a cylinder is explained. You can find out in this video:
When can we use adiabatic thermomechanical analysis?
How to model metal forming problems by Dynamic Explicit?
How to create contact in metal forming?
How to include adiabatic heat effect in a stress analysis?
Which properties is required for an adiabatic analysis?
How we could request and plot temperature in an adiabatic analysis?

Hi there, Regarding the material properties, the value of yield stress at elevated temperature that you use, why is it so high? 50 MPa at zero strain and 600 MPa at unity value of strain. Is that an input mistake?

Thanks for your comment, it should be 60 MPa.

Hi professor thanks very much. I did model a pipe by shell geometry in 3d space. But the temperature rise 100000!!! what is the problem?

The problem could be from material inputs or boundary conditions.

also are there any units for inelastic heat fraction ? thanks again

The inelastic heat fraction is the ration between heat generation and plastic work so have no unit.

How to perform hot tensile or compression test?

You can perform a fully coupled analysis with complete boundary conditions and heat exchange with the environment (Please watch this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZoGupLmAYNHUpLA.html ). However in the case that your test is isothermal and you expect almost constant temperature allover your specimen, stress analysis is enough, but please note that all the properties related to that temperature.

Dear Sir, Thanks a lot for this video. Please I am traying to perform the same model using user subouritine but I get some error talking about Abaqus explicit requires rigid parts to have mass.... Can you help me to solve this problem ??? I am running it with Johnson-Cook VUHARD subouritine

It seems that you have a rigid part with natural boundary condition without mass definition. In other words, when we are using a rigid part in a dynamic solution, we should apply displacement type BC to it or we should enter the mass properties of it.

Thanks a lot. Please can You provide me your mail adress by it I can send you the inp file and others. If you have time, I would like your correction. I am a bigginer of Abaqus.

I don't know how to enter those BC properties.

In the current step just enter the mass of the rigid part in the Property module. Use special/inertia /and create mass then enter the mass of the rigid part.

Okay. But let me know if it is mandatory to put some inertia (I1, I2, I3)???
