ADF | Crew of HMAS Yarra open their doors

HMAS Yarra (IV) recently marked 21 years of service since its commissioning on 1 March 2003 and continues to provide service as one of four Huon-class Minehunters Coastal (MHC) vessels.
Following routine maintenance at her homeport of HMAS Waterhen on Sydney Harbour, the ship will enter a work-up period before conducting deep diving serials with the other Minehunter Coastal vessels at sea.

Great to see the modern navy on display like this! Much different to the old HMAS Yarra(DE45). I’m showing my age now and didn’t serve on Yarra, but I did serve on HMAS Stuart(DE48). They were ASW focused. Different roles but MW and ASW are equally important, and complement each other in many circumstances.

My grandfather, Duncan Stevenson, served on the HMAS Yarra (U77) and was one of the survivors after she was sank.

A very interesting video, thanks for sharing. My sea time finished in 1972 (Melbourne, Vampire and Brisbane) and it seems to me things are a lot more sophisticated in modern warships. Keep safe you guys and gals. Keep up the good work.

I served 2 years on MHCs as the Swain 2010 & 2011. That was a good video, right up until the grunter saluted.

I think it is "loo" in the RAN but "lef" in he RAAF and Australian Army which would have been done in line with British practice. It's like the Navy 'palm down' support versus the palm forward support of other military arms.
