Swans fan for 30 years, and I think that was completely unfair to the crows team and club. AFL can you get a 'var override field umpire' situation implemented. That's truly heartbreaking that situation and the outcome for crows players and fans.

Yep, the loss had nothing to do with terrible kicking accuracy, or playing rubbish in the first half against the Swans, or not being able to win any of the close important games in the last 8 weeks, or Rachele doing dumb stuff and getting suspended - the season is over solely because of an umpire….

There needs to be a better system in place. Gil admitting today that the umpire got it wrong does nothing for the Crows. Every score (not just goals) should be checked by ARC. The umpire not going to score review for the match decider (with so much riding on it, not just for both teams, but other teams in the comp) is inexcusable

You’re right, because no game has ever been won in the final 60 seconds of the match you seem to have forgotten about. What is really wrong is every Crows supporter ignoring how they found themselves 30+pts down at 3/4 time, or kicking 4:8 in the final term. Yes, bad decision, but it wasn’t the only one that cost them the game.

Even as a Port supporter, who have a bitter rivalry with the Crows, I reckon Adelaide were robbed by the umpire with that dubious decision. It definitely looked more like a goal than a point. Let’s hope the swans get turfed out of the finals early. Justice.

Once again AFL management has failed to take accountability for such a farce but rather pass the buck and blame "human error". The little guy is once again made the scapegoat. The necessary rules and systems need to be put in place to deal with such scenarios. This is the responsibility of management.

Yes, Adelaide played below standard for 2.5 quarters but they came back with overwhelming pressure in the 3rd and 4th. The game was an exciting comeback that was proven to be decided by a goal umpire. Adelaide supporters could also raise the many umpiring decisions in this game that were inconsistently called. They could say the same for the second Collingwood game coming down to the overlooked free for high contact against Dawson. Or the inconsistent calls in the games against Melbourne and Brisbane. But what good does it do to dwell on the overwhelmingly subjective nature of the many umpiring decisions in this sport. In this game, this particularly close game, it came down to Adelaide doing exactly enough to win and instead were let down by a single incorrect scoring decision. Whether the goal umpire blinked at the wrong moment and was overshadowed by the Sydney players who were hitting the post and playing foul; the ball did not deviate, there was a clear gap between ball and post, and the wrong decision was made. Close games like this one make the AFL exciting, and by allowing a poor scoring decision to affect the end result simply ruins the game. All other professional-level sports competitions, be it, NRL, NFL, NHL, basketball, tennis, soccer, all have the technology to ensure such close calls, especially those involving scores, are correctly assessed. Just because our sport is a high scoring one, doesn’t mean every score doesn’t count and deserve genuine assessment. Any shot through the goal posts should be reviewed regardless of the umpire’s call and checked for human error. Not the points posts, the GOAL POSTS. All technology should be the same at all fields. If the Sydney players were interfering with the post and/or audibly affecting the goal umpire’s decision, it should be grounds enough to automate the review system. Then if they are found to have blatantly attempted to impede the score, they should be fined, punished, or forced to concede a free, or the goal itself, due to foul play. No player should be allowed to talk at or to the goal umpires. I suppose next season Adelaide have to win every game the only way the AFL seems to allows them their wins - a less exciting one-sided game with a large enough margin so they can play a possession hogging kick-to-kick for the last 5-10mins. The Adelaide Crows this season consistently made games against top side exciting and yet were consistently let down by the AFL and their apologies. It draws into question whether the AFL is even a sport worthy of great competition. Ever since the grand final draw that the AFL weren’t prepared for, the competition seems to have been making things up as they go along.

The Crows let themselves down plenty during the year as well - kicking accuracy, ill discipline from the likes of Rachele, leaky defence, a terrible away record. Instead of Adelaide doing just enough to win and not being able to close out close games against top form sides for whatever reason (every close one always had a new reason for ‘almost but not quite…’), they need to fix a bunch of things on their own turf first so that one reason doesn’t decide the entire game every time. They have enormous potential but still plenty of work to do - that’s not the AFLs fault.

It doesn't matter how many times you miss if you can put yourself in a position to win which they did. They came back from 44 points down the biggest comeback in the Clubs history. They lost because of not one call but this call. That is the fact of this game. ROBBED! Fox Footy showed more angles and footage after the game. There is a clear gap between the ball and the post. It doesn't nick the post, and the ball is well above the padding. UPDATE: Gil said today umpire got it wrong and should have gone to score review and the correct decision would have been made 🙃. Umpire has been stood down for the rest of the season

It was well above the padding when it passed the goal line, there is a clear angle proving that, but one the AFL didn't want to provide here because of how bad it looks for them. AFL's first reaction to this sort of thing is to try and cover it up which is why they don't provide the clear evidence here.

While I think that Adelaide got robbed after viewing someone's video on Twitter (soon to be called X), the Crows also had their chances and should've kicked more truly. The umpire has since been stood down for the rest of the season. Does that mean including Finals? I can't wait to see EggFooty's Round 23 review next week. Remember the Golden Rules: Don't get eliminated. F*** you, Spanos. Adelaide and Essendon eliminated.

Biggest mistake of the season, and it didn’t have to happen. Umpire should be sacked. Brings in the potential argument for at least one ruling challenge per game by each team….. travesty.
