Monica McLemore PhD, MPH, RN, discusses the "Momnibus," a package of 12 bills focused on addressing clinical and nonclinical drivers of maternal health disparities, including both implicit and explicit bias in healthcare.
The Momnibus was written with Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) & Rep. Alma Adams (D-N.C.) and other members of the Black Maternal Health Caucus.
The bills include measures to:
- Make critical investments in social determinants of health
- Grow and diversify the perinatal workforce
- Improve data collection processes and quality measures
- Support moms with maternal mental health conditions
- Promote innovative payment models
- Invest in federal programs
- Promote maternal vaccinations
