Adding Wall Panels To My Van Conversion!

This week I take on the challenges of tracing out the panels for my walls! Hopefully this helps anyone trying to build out their van or any vehicle. It helps so much to make a template out of cardboard first!

    The van is coming along nicely. I like the way you filmed the side panel installation- it's enlightening to see how much measuring and altering has to go on in a van build :)

    Great stuff. I like your industrial look ceiling. I think your panels are great too. I assume if you had to deal with wiring issues, or heaven forbid water issues later, I'm sure you can get those off and on easy, and they are not too expensive to replace, a very practical, yet attractive choice. Thanks for sharing. In the spirit of sharing, You probably already know about this option for water, but weed sprayer DIY showers are a pretty handy for sinks and showers in RVs this size.

    You need a gap between your metal and the sheet of your insulation panel. This kind is for ambiant temperature not for direct contact insulation

    Very helpful thanks for the detailed run through. That carpet looks a little thicker than what lots use , do you know what mm thick it is , what others use is more like a material 4 way stretch and it’s very susceptible to snags especially from Velcro

    Clean look! I can’t tell in the vid what you do on the sliding door areas-did you cut the same Masonite and carpeting for the doors that you used on the walls?

    The side panels seem to take some space away from the interior. For example, your later cabinet on the right side could be a bit deeper with something that fit closer. Would this be worth the extra effort? If you did it again, would you build the cabinet and then put up the wall around it?

    Thanks! Not in this build, I used self taping lath screws to attach to the metal of the van. Installing some wood strips is a good idea so it’s easier to locate a solid attachment point for the Masonite!

I am having a bit of a challenge finding leads here. Thanks!

    Josh Oakes I've always wondered this when watching van builds also..so you can drill paneling directly into the van walls? How deep can the screws go? Will the van rust in the areas you drill? Do you need to put something around the holes to prevent rust or water coming in? Thanks for your videos by the way, I think they're great!

  • @jamesgill5511

    @jamesgill5511

    6 жыл бұрын

    IIheartlovee You don't screw into the exterior skin of the van, it's only thin sheet metal. The screws go into the raised reinforcing ribs. Usually there is an inch or more clearance between the ribs and the body panels. If you use screws about 1/4 inch longer than the thickness of your new wall panels they should never pierce the outside of the van.

    Dont like your insulation (cotton) and all that wood just adds weight (doesn't even look good, imo), but love the grey carpet (adds a lot of class). Personally, i'd rip out the wood and cover the ceiling in grey carpet...id only put wood on the floor (well, wood colored vinyl flooring).
