So relate-able!! When I get frustrated I just walk away. Maybe get on the treadmill to clear my mind, maybe start dinner prep, maybe just shut the craft room door until another day. Thank you for sharing today. Your cards are stunning!

Cathy Zielske said that her mistakes end up in a bin her husband draws from for grocery lists -- prettiest grocery lists around! So I do that, too -- mistakes go into a pile for me to make lists, etc. We don't keep every piece of our kids' artwork, right? The house would collapse! But every piece they create helps them improve their skill and talent. Us too, right? Thanks Jennifer! 😊

Jennifer, you are an excellent teacher. One of the teaching techniques is the non-example. Basically showing errors is a good way for the learner to see errors are stepping stones.

Thanks for sharing such an intimate part of your crafting. Struggles & frustration are no fun, especially when you’re trying to create! I can absolutely empathize with the exasperation & vexation of things not going the way you want them to. Beautiful cards, regardless of the hiccups it took to get them to finished projects!!

I have severe depression. Most days my cardmaking is wonderful therapy for me. Some days, it seems to remind me of how imperfect I am - edges don’t line up perfectly, what I envisioned doesn’t work out, I lose a piece, I get glue or ink on the back of the card, etc., etc. Thank you for your honesty. It is going to help me immensely on my bad days. I’m an imperfect human and that’s a wonderful thing to be. ❤

Beautiful cards, but more importantly.... A very encouraging video. I need to hear that mistakes, off days, losing your tools without moving any where, frustrations abounding, etc are NORMAL. I suppose it is a good thing that we don't have an edit button on our daily lives. Keeping things honest with myself, means acknowledging that things don't always go according to plan. Thank you for the beauty you create in peoples lives. I know the people who receive my cards are encouraged. When you inspire and encourage us, it multiplies that encouragement more than you could ever imagine. Thank you. You inspire, encourage, motivate, educate, teach, etc, etc, etc. Thank you.

Thank you for once again sharing such helpful techniques and also for the very honest "behind the scenes" info! I was a teacher for 30+ years and one of the most memorable things I learned from a veteran teacher was to be sure to let students know how helpful mistakes could be. Inspired by her, I kept a poster up in my room that read, "Mistakes are an opportunity for all of us to learn." That's true whatever our age and regardless of the content being taught, so thank you for letting us all learn how you used your mistakes to be more creative and/or to learn what to do the next time not to repeat them! I figure mistakes must be one of the reasons there are so many different erasers out there on the market!!!

Jennifer, thank you so much. I needed to see this video today and hear your message. I spent the afternoon in my craft room with a friend of mine who also makes cards. She is used to hearing me bemoan the fact that I can't make my cards perfect, that they don't look like your cards. I often beat myself up and put so much pressure on myself to make my cards as good as yours that I give myself anxiety, and then I don't end up enjoying my creative time. My creativity gets blocked. I forget that the whole reason I started making cards in the first place was because I fell in love with creating them, and the joy it brought me. I can wish forever that my cards would be as beautiful and creative as yours, or I can release that pressure I place on myself and get back to enjoying the process, regardless of the outcome. You are very gifted and I love the joy you bring to others with your beautiful cards. I just have to remind myself that I'm not you, and that my own creativity has value and has brought joy to many of my recipients. Thank you so much for your message today. Big hug!!

Hello Jennifer, I hope that today is a better day for you. I hold card making class with a group of ladies, some of whom get very disheartened by mistakes they make in class. I always say “It is just paper and ink” and “you didn’t see all the mistakes I made” but today I am sharing your video with them in our group. They all know I am a huge fan of your and think you are amazing…. And I have regularly referenced you as a source of inspiration for either a technique or card design, so I am sure they will all feel just a little bit less disheartened next time they are in class and make a mistake, when even the GOAT of card making has a bad day and makes a few mistakes. I applaud your bravery for sharing both the video and sharing when you have a bad day or need a break. Thank you 🙏🏻, for both your fantastic videos and sharing so much of yourself with us. Xx

It truly does bring some reassurance to those of us who are not making cards daily and feel so inadequate when we make mistakes and have to start over. We always tend to think you guys are perfect at this since you work with it all of the time. Your videos are always so beautifully shown and your voice overs are always so in sync. Thank you for spending time with us and sharing your skills and ideas and even your mistakes. You are appreciated very much.

Thanks for your honesty Jennifer.

How is it possible to say enough thanks to you for opening up on this marvellous video. I lost all creativity (creatively blocked) for a couple years. I bought every stamp/die/inkpad/tool suggested in the crafty world. Nothing sparked that flow of wow like before. So I just stopped watching crafty videos. Stopped buying product that would not get used. My years of card making felt unfulfilling now. Then I saw this video that stresses what we are presented in this crafty space are perfections, tiny pieces of edited art that mask the realities of errors, mistakes and redos. I really needed to see you make faux-pas and correct them or hide them or redo them. I wonder if perfectly edited videos that demonstrate techniques from (easy to complex) setup us up for failure. We all compare our work to yours hoping to inch closer and closer to your excellence. So today 5 months after you posted this "honestly edited" video, I felt a deep sign of relief. I finally saw the upper echelon of crafty royalty makes mistakes too. I hope you'll consider editing future videos a little bit more forgiving (to yourself, your talent) and for us that look for exciting new techniques, inspiration and growth. I was moved today. I think you deeply Jennifer.

It struck me while watching how hard it must be on those rough days to keep pushing through, knowing you have a deadline or some other professional reason to finish the project. I don’t do card making or crafting for a living so I’ve learned to embrace some of them as “design elements” , 😊. Sometimes I re do or fix them. Crafting is my happy place and I always strive to keep it happy. Also, I only give my projects to people I admire, like and love and they never give them back because they found a mistake. I always enjoy your creative take on product and try to remember to click on your links when I do buy Products you have brought to my attention. ❤

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...I have always thought how lame I was since I could NEVER cut the excess paper on the sides off with scissors...I ALMOST ALWAYS cut into the frame that I did not want to cut...and watching you guys do that so easily I just thought that I was just not talented enough to do it with a scissors...I generally will do it with my cutting board... this makes me feel better...Maybe I am not as lame as I thought I was LOL!

Thanks for sharing the goofs. Two suggestions: 1) Tack a blooper on to the end of your videos! 2) do a trouble shooting video on hot foiling. I’ve come to accept that it’s a trial and error process for me, but it would be so helpful to watch your process when you make adjustments. How to decide if it needs more time or less? more heat or less? Etc.

Hi Jennifer, sorry to see you having such a frustrating day - amazed to see the brilliant cards you still produce🤩. I used to loose tools in my creative crafting chaos all the time - now I use one of these SimonSaysStamp silicone paw do-hickeys, it sits, very brightly coloured, on my desk and I dump all the tools I use again and again (tweezers, picks, bone folder, spatula, scissors…) on it. That way I know where my stuff is - most of the time anyway. Give it a try, if you like. Kind regards from Germany, Nicola

Besides the mistakes (which of course we all make), I’m relieved to hear you say you lost your pallet knife. That happens to me and always make me feel so crazy. Like, how can I not find it? I just had it! So, I’m glad to know it’s not just me!

Your cards turned out beautiful!! I love that your true colors as a person shows in your videos. You are a genuine person and artist. This is why I LOVE 💕 your videos! Such great cards Jennifer! Thank you for sharing! We all make mistakes, we are human after all and I like that you kept it in your video. Like Gina K says, it’s better than horrible. Lol However, some of mine are horrible and end up in the trash bin. I’ve been a crafter for 40+ years and making mistakes is part of the process. I still make a LOT as the crafting has evolved over the years! Love it, mistakes and ALL!😘

Thank you for this video Jennifer - not just for the cards - which are stunning - but also sharing you creative journey with these cards. I’ve been card making for years - 32 years to be precise - and I still have days like you had. Sometime I despair at the errors I can make - but it’s a huge encouragement to me that you have days like this as well. I am a perfectionist in very few things, but it seems as though my cards have to be as perfect as I can achieve and I can really best myself up for tiny mistakes that someone else might not even notice. How crazy is that - because making cards is one of the things I love to do more than almost anything else. Your wise words are an encouragement to me to just enjoy creating, to do my best, and to accept that mistakes happen to all of us, and we can just carry on and produce lovely results in spite of the wobbles on the way! Thank you Jennifer 😍♥️

Thank you for what you said about struggling. I’ve been watching you for years and always thought your videos were perfect hence you being a professional. It was my dream to obtain your level but afraid to start filming because I know nothing about editing or making great videos or the equipment so I just tell myself it’s just a hobby and people don’t want to watch an amateur make bad videos. I’m a card maker and it’s my therapy so I give up my ideas of obtaining higher level of professional card making or being on design teams as my struggles are always telling me lies. Thanks for letting us know that the struggle happens to you too.

I want to tell you how much I appreciate your edited videos. When trying to reach someone a step by step process and problems arise like the steps getting out of order because of mistakes it only confuses and frustrates the student. It’s so much better that you don’t show that but I appreciate the reminder that even you have bad days.

Actually when things go wrong, I often end up leaving it and seldom coming back to it!! Thanks for sharing your struggles. Yes, the struggle is real. If I get too frustrated, I leave my craft room and do something else. When I get back in my crafty mood, I will finish the project or put it away for another time. I have a lot of projects that need completion and eventually they get completed. We all just have those days.

I had dream the other night that Jennifer and Kristina and they had an entourage knocked on my door. My crafting mess right now is unbelievable in my craft room, kitchen counter, dining room. I don’t know if it’s because I need to clean or maybe company is coming, more than likely the chocolate I ate. All through the dream I kept trying to clean and apologize for the mess. Still a fun dream.
