How do I add all the totals in Column x when each cell has different signs (+) (-), example = (L2 + L40) but cell 4 might be $125.00 and cell 8 is - $200, i want to get the total sum watching signs of course so we get the Profit or Loss total on row L41?

This is the best answer to another question I was seeking an answer to: how to add ONLY the contents of some, selected, columns and not others, and I loved the pull down example too to activate the same addition formula for all rows. Very clear, you get it in seconds.....

I just came back to revisit this video, and after thinking about it for a couple of months I affirm that this video is STILL about adding HORIZONTAL ROWS not VERTICAL COLUMNS. I think this guy needs to use a dictionary. You see, vertical goes up and down. What you show here is adding across horizontally. Please fix this so you can stop wasting people's time who want to know how to add vertically.

Not really Hudson, if that was the case then the results of each vertical column would be added together, not one from each column horizontally. Did you see a result of adding an entire vertical column anywhere in this video?

Also, it was the adding and subtracting of just 2 cells. What if you were adding and subtracting a range? That's what most people will need to do.

@@Essays4College True. For that you need the SUM formula. It will look something like this (with the respective cell names, of course): *=SUM(Mark all the cells you need to subtract from) - SUM(all the cells you are subtracting)* For example:

Ted, how do you get the same results but with only using a total for one cell in Column C instead of corresponding cells for a complete total.

Does anyone know to multiple what you subtracted in the same cell for example if I put =AA2-J2 gives me 5 but how do I multiple that 5 with another cell which could be Q2 that’s 2. I tried to do this first but I gave a calculation that was wrong =AA2-J2*Q2. But doing this it gives a complete wrong answer to what I want which I’m sure I’m just calculating this in excel incorrectly. How do you multiply in the same cell what you just subtracted

Thanks for sharing - Yes ok in almost all of the YT videos they only show Column A and B, but what if you have more data such like in A (Main Amount) and wish to subtract the data from cells, B, C, D, E, F for example....
