You are an amazing teacher. Very calm and very good at explaining things in an easy to understand, with a calm and relaxed tone. You have helped my daughter quite a bit, and I thank you for that. Little secret, I would watch ahead of time to give myself a little refresher course before helping the kids with their work. 🍎 I truly wish I had a teacher like you when I was young, I would have taken a bunch better interest at a young age

On example #2 3/8 + 7/10 the least common denominator is 40 {8 goes into 40 5 times and 10 goes into 40 4 times} so the problem 3/8 + 7/10 would actually be 15/40 + 28/40 making the answer 43/40 or 1 3/40.

Your common denominator does not have to be the smallest common denominator.

1031Fannie I was showing you how to calculate the answer without using the GCF. The main difference is you will have to simplify more in the end. The answer could be calculated with a 40 as well. There are an infinite amount of denominations which could work, but the larger number you use the more simplifying you will need to do in the end.

Hi, question. Why didn't you use the least common multiple when solving the Example #2? I thought the denominator is going to be 40 (during solving) since denominators are 8 & 10.

You are right about using 40 for a LCM, but both ways work. Yours means less work.
