Adding a WETLAND FILTER & INTAKE BAY to an Existing Pond 💦

Schedule Your Consultation: www.pondkingwatergardens.com/
Thank you for joining us for episode 170 project #2 of 2022! For this project we head to Owatonna, MN & are here to help rehab our clients pond! Most times we only do new builds or full redo's but Kim had been following our social media for years & we really wanted to help get her pond turned around.
It was really a great win-win because here in Minnesota we can't do much for construction or heavy towing/deliveries until the Spring road restrictions are lifted. So a project like this didn't call for huge boulders and we could do it during our spring cleaning season! Plus we can now offer this type of upgrade every spring. We decided to add an intake bay, wetland filter, rebuild the fallen walls & perform a deep cleaning. We also upgraded the pump & flow rate, turning over the pond more per hour.
It really turned out fantastic & our client said it's the first time she's seen her fish in years! Wow what a reaction! Duane helped us fix our machine & showed us all their cool machines they use to operate their family farm.

Ahhhh, so nice to see the finished product. The possibilities for pond upgrades seem limitless.

The best is to set it up right from the start... second best is the nearly limitless additions and improvements!

That intake certainly does it's job! Well done. Looking forward to the videos of this and the older jobs you're planning on re-visiting. Can I ask what you do with the auto top off line in winter? Do you need to disconnect the tubing and blow it out and cap it? Or does it do well staying connected?

Thank you! Are you at pondo? Auto Top Off we do blow out in the fall for winter prep with an air compressor. With all of our plumbing in the north here we slope things properly to drain and leave things closer to the surface of the soil for ease of repair if needed.

@@PondKingWaterGardensMN sadly not going to Pondo and just found out next year will be online again. I'll be doing the academy this winter for sure. Is there caps for that little tubing or do you just tape the ends?

I'm sure there are caps. We haven't had any issues after blowing them out. How did you find out next year is online? Why is that? One day our paths shall cross!

Is this the short you just posted? I hear good things about intake bays and I know wetland filters work every time! Excited to see updated footage of this over time!

Yeah it's the short we just put up! That was filmed by our client with her cell phone too. We need more time in a day to see our creations again!

Absolutely gorgeous pond you guys! ❤️ My son and I have been working on an 8,400 gallon pond for the last year with an intake bay and waterfall bog filter, all dug by hand. We just got the 45mm EPDM liner in the pond last week. That liner was a beast! Had to call friends to help roll it out and install it. Just wondering what the depth minimum of inches the weir can be for the intake bay? I saw yours in this build was 12” depth. Can I get away with less than that for the weir depth? Great video! ❤️

We like to do the 8-12" because it allows us to have a fluctuating water line. 6" opening should work you're just married to that water line & can't go lower if you ever wanted to. Sounds like an awesome perfect! Let me know if you need any other tips!

I learned nothing about why you added intake bay and wetland filter. How did you size it? What size is pond? Didn’t even see the items that were added.

The additions are featured but it was really hard to capture footage on this project. It was cold and windy. I'm sorry. We aren't the best at educational content with our channel yet. We're going to get better. I recommend watching Team Aquascape to really learn the equations and reasons why we do things. I hope our future content will provide you the educational entertainment you enjoy.

The part of the project you actually did you didn’t even show completed, every angle of that stream that you didn’t build but not the wetland filter or the intake bay 🤨

Our editor did the best he could with what we captured. It was so windy a lot of footage wasn't useful. I do plan to go back to highlight it in the future. Everything's doing well, water is clear and clients are in love with it! Next reveal should have more of what you're excited by!
