Adding a relay to my Trackmate timing system

Today I added the relay that came with my Trackmate system so that the timing system can control power to the track.

Nice that's how I had my tracks working when I had the trackmate system back in the 2000's. it's good to have a track call button.

Thanks! Yeah definitely worth it, I do have one call button that came with the track system, I may install it, seems easy enough to install just need to figure out where I want to mount it. For now the space bar on the keyboard will be the call button...lol

Mark track is coming right along. Looking forward to the solution of the power on before the green light.

That was just a setting in the software. I found the box to check to have the power come on at the green flag. You could leave it the way it was in my video where is comes on before the green flag and you can set penalties for drivers who jump the green.

Not sure how Trackmate works but some timing software will power on the track a little before the start signal (when the timer actually starts counting) and the system forces the driver to start the heat on his own and will even penalize the driver a set number of seconds if they "false start" or jump the gun. The packages that do individual lane power control can even turn off the power to the specific lane for a moment to penalize a driver. I set mine up with individual lane power control but it takes more wiring and a generic four relay board as I control them directly from a legacy parallel port. You can also select a "dead start" option which simply turns on the power the moment the heat starts. This is how most club racing is done. If I remember right, both SlotTrak and Race Coordinator have this option. By the way, most of the other timing software is Trackmate compatible so you might want to give them a try. They are free to download. (Virus scan them thoroughly before opening).

Thanks for the info! The way mine was set in the video is exactly how you described, the power comes on during the timer before the green flag, I did fine in the setting where I can check the box to have the power come on at the green flag after the count down, or you can setup false start penalties. For now I have the box checked to start power at the green flag but maybe I will play around with the penalties....sounds fun...lol

Hello Mark, thank you for the informative video. Like the way you showed the diagram, then the actual view under the track:) Doing away with track marshals and having a track call button at each driver's station, allowing each racer three track calls per 3min heat and sitting out the rest of the heat on the fourth call. I call it 3 and then out, Lol. If you save your accidents, it's like having more fuel are turbo boost. If you have used up your track calls, then you must back off some so you can at least stay in the heat:) I know I've mentioned this to you before. Lol. Another fun thing is restrictor plate style racing. You set a best time limiter on how fast a car can go around the track. Trackmate want count the lap if you go faster than the set limit and breakout. This limit can be set based on the fastest and slowest times. Somewhere in the middle. Puts in a handy cap, giving others a chance to win:) Take care and keep up the good work my friend:)

Thanks, both very interesting ways to race. I am not sure I could get the guys I race with to go for that though...lol

Yup, off of Viper's site. I added more mounts, they only come with four which do not hold the barrier on well at high speed crashes.
