Addilynn's Story: Innovation in Spinal Surgery

Ryan Koehler, M.D. called it "one of the worst he's seen in practice." At nine-years old, Addilynn Smith's scoliosis had progressed to a near 90-degree curve of her spine.
Fearing what her future might look like, the family turned to Children's Hospital & Medical Center. There the orthopedic team used intra-operative spinal navigation, just the second such surgery at Children's, to help place screws and rods in a safer, more efficient manner.
