Really getting the drum recording setup dialed in at my home studio. It was the one thing I couldn’t do at home and now I’m gonna be making a lot of great sounding records in my space. #sonordrums #zildjancymbals #vicfirthsticks #drummer #goldenageribbon #akgmicrophones #shuremicrophones #sslbigsix #uaudio #beatmaker #producer #homestudio #studiolife #sweetwatersound

It's too bad the sound is so compressed. The bitrate sounds very low. :(

Is that a 214 on the snare? Whats the reasoning behind that placement?

Yeah, it’s a 214. Have also used a Sennheiser 421 in a similar spot. The idea is to get some more clarity in the hats/rack tom, since I’m using a 4-mic setup.

@@washesmusic more so interested in the position. Its pointing away from the snare.

@@KJ4VGA Might be hard to tell from the video, but the front of the mic with the cardioid polar pattern is pointed down at the rim of the snare. And it’s getting underside reflections from the hats and tom. I’ve experimented with a bunch of different placements with the mics I have. This one makes for the least amount of tweaking the stand when I swap for my other mics. I’ll sometimes swap to a 57 there too. Depends on what I’m going for.
