EDIT 4: Faster faster run, now with better Credits Warp! • Addams Family Values (...
EDIT:
Barely slower than this run, with commentary: / 66089261
EDIT 2: This would be 1:12:43 under the new timing method.
Hey I think this run went pretty well! The dumbest thing that happened was when I couldn't find the door in the dark room in dungeon 6. :p

This is a game I started a lot of times and never finished, good run here and very enjoyable to watch.

Thanks :). There's a 58:28 linked in the description. I skipped the last 13 minutes of the run and pulled the credits from thin air instead, lol. I've only done the one attempt of the new route so far...

canadianstickdeath But I was wondering, why everything in this game is so cryptic? nothing is intuitive a lot if running around doing random stuff and using even more random portals, a good game but with some bad design choices.

Yeah this game is pretty terrible, lol, maybe that's why I like it? After playing through Skyward Sword, around the 200th time Fi popped out and told me there was a 95% chance I should do exactly what I going to do anyway, I think I developed an allergy to hand-holding.

canadianstickdeath Well tbh I don't think it's bad it just have some random bullshit and questionable design choices, it reminds of Zelda in a way..sorry to drag the conversation this long but since you being nice to reply did you play this game back when you were a kid or you grabbed it after being grown and glorious? just curious because you make this nonsense of a game looks so easy.

OK, here comes a text wall, lol. I played through this game when I was (about) 12, so that'd be early 2000's. Normally I wouldn't have, but for this game I gave in an used a walkthrough occasionally. I'd forgotten almost everything about it when I finally got around to doing another playthrough two years ago. I only remembered how to beat the tree boss, and I vaguely recalled getting warped around a lot. During that more recent playthrough I got softlocked at one point due to a glitch with continue points, and decided to investigate... One thing led to another, and now I'm speedrunning it with credits warp, lol. The first time I played through the mansion as a kid, I had a half skull left when the spider boss offers you the black egg in the 2nd-to-last room. I knew it was a trick, but I figured I was dead anyway, so I touched it. I didn't remember this had happened until after I'd tried it more recently, while glitch-hunting, and had a big deja vu moment. It crashes the game, often after playing the creepy laugh SFX. It's actually a variant of the same glitch I manipulate to activate walk through walls or to credits warp, and I'd stumbled upon it when I was 12 and had totally forgotten. The truth about speedrunning this game is that it's a lot easier than playing it casually. Casually there are all these random portals, send you to useless rooms. Huge swathes of the game you could wander for days and still wonder what you must have missed, when really there's actually nothing there to find. 80% of this game exists just to obfuscate what you're actually supposed to do. Speedrunning you cut all of that nonsense out, and the game becomes a lot more manageable. (Also the fact that in any% we can skip the last third or so of the game really helps. Cookie & health management is a huge problem in glitchless and not having to go through the endgame legitimately really helps to mitigate that.)

I thought it was an odd choice to have Fester as the main protagonist in this game. If anything, he was the one that needed to be saved. Personally I think it should be a two player game with Wednesday and Pugsley and start off at the camp trying to get back to the mansion. Instead we get a darker Festers Quest.

This game could've actually been a good game if they had a save feature, and made it a little faster

A save feature and speeding Fester up a bit would have made such a huge difference, yeah. I guess you can forgive them for not wanting to spend the money to have the save feature. They sped a few things up for the Genesis version (warps and text are faster), but only the 5/6 speed PAL version was ever released. (The useful glitches were fixed on Genesis anyway.)

As a walkthrough my 100% run is probably better b/c this run does a glitch to activate no clip and skips the last third or so of the game, lol.

This video isn't great for a walkthrough because toward the end I glitch out the game and walk through all the walls into the ending, lol. I recommend instead my most recent 100% speedrun. That'll actually show you how to beat the whole game, and also collect the optional upgrades to make it easier for you.

@@user-kr6fg3dm6p The musical box item is pretty useless. All it does is kill the 'unbeatable' red ghost enemies. There are maybe like 5 of these enemies in the entire game. I guess one nice thing is they always drop health when they die.

Your comment confused me for a while but I finally figured to check those names at the end for a match! There's so much I could say about the glitches I do in this run, how they work, and the crazy-hard new trick that saves 9 minutes by skipping the red potion and that I accidentally did in a practice run while I wasn't timing, oops. It has 2 precise inputs where the first is allowed to be 1 frame early, and then the 2nd is allowed to be 1 frame late, but not both - one of the two of them has to be frame perfect. Then if you get both of those you get the chance at a final frame-perfect input to use the shockwave and blow up the game, lol. I didn't expect to pull that off first try when I'd only ever done it once before but I guess I learned the lesson to always record. When I blow up the game with the shockwave, it always sets the walk through walls debug address, but usually the game crash will reinitialize that RAM. The trick is, if you set it up perfectly, you can instead cause the game to jump to either the copyright screen or the title screen instead of outright crashing, avoiding that reinitilization. In theory, if I can get the right 4 bytes to just the right values, I could encode a jump to the credits. I need to fully explore all the possibilities for making that reality and it's tough so I've been procrastinating. (I'm reasonably confident that full arbitrary code execution is possible, but it might be too complicated for me to solve. But maybe someday I'll turn this game into Pong or something.) I figure it can't hurt to ask. Know any glitches? And let me know if you'd like more detail than this because I could probably go on and on and on...

Very nice run bro. I remember this game very well; difficult as hell with no save states, and not knowing where to go at times. I beat this game once and never played it again. Lol. And you seem to have taken the time to master it; you must enjoy punishment. Lol jk

There is a map. It's permanently missable. It's also not particularly helpful. I say this every time somebody comments on this video, but my current PB of 57m25s is linked in the description. There's also a commentary of a run very similar to this one where we briefly mention that the map is unhelpful. :)
