Great video! Here is an outline step-by-step: i. Create Vanishing Point geometry onto which to project your graphic 1. Establish base geometry (define perspective reference from image) a. Select layer on which you wish to work (has stairway in it) b. Filter > Vanishing Point c. Establish your base geometry: i. Select the four corners of a plane that is in perspective in your image ii. Use a stair for this; note that you will be extending its size below, so go for something that is highly reliable and defined (a rectangular portion of concrete with clear delineation); the tool will automatically be in 'Create Plane Tool (C)' mode. Be as accurate as possible in your selection. iii. Zoom in using 'ctrl + ', 'select + spacebar' to pan around iv. 'Grid Size' box up top allows modification of grid density v. Upon full selection, you automatically bounce out of 'Create Plane Tool' and are in 'Edit Plane Tool'; adjust the corner points as needed to achieve accuracy vi. Grid color code will tell you if your base geometry is acceptable: ® Blue = fine ® Yellow = okay, but not great ® Red = not acceptable 2. Extend your base geometry a. Drag the mid-side points to extend the plane you established laterally to cover the entire stair b. Hit 'C' (or select the 'Create Plane Tool') c. Alt+select the mid-side of your base geometry plane and drag it to create a perpendicular plane (i.e. the rest of the stair); once created, note that you can modify the angle in the dialogue box up top (in case you don't want 90deg; select and drag 'angle' to do this visually) d. Repeat the previous two steps (C, Alt+select drag) to create perpendicular planes, working across the whole stair case e. Hit 'okay' in top right corner of dialogue box to lock in your work ii. Bring in and apply graphic 1. Now back in your main Photoshop work session (i.e. back on the canvas) bring in a new layer that has your graphic in it; select it (ctrl + select the thumbnail); copy it (ctrl + C), hide it 2. Create a new layer, name it 'graphic' 3. Still with this new layer selected, go to Filter > Vanishing Point, and paste your graphic (ctrl + C) 4. Drag the graphic over your perspective geometry; the graphic will pop into place (wrapping around your geometry) a. Modify the graphic: i. Ctrl + T - to transform it; shift-control-drag a corner to resize ii. Use arrow keys to move left or right iii. Alt + drag to duplicate the graphic (if it is a tiled-pattern, for example, and you are assembling multiple units) b. Hit OK to exit the filter iii. Improve image appearance 1. Adjust the graphic to look realistic: a. Slightly blur it; consider variable blur (depth of field effect) b. Create a blend mode stack (multiply, multiply, screen; use Blend If) and group together in a layers directory (he does a version of this stack but doesn't look as good as second record here in OneNote on page "Apply Art to Objects 1") 2. Bring subject to foreground a. Select subject b. Invert selection c. Mask the graphic group (this shows the graphic everywhere the subject isn't) 3. Create a group of the graphic group + mask, and mask this 4. Create a new layer above this; copy (ctrl+c) the texture image from a separate document, and, with the new layer selected, open Vanishing Point filter and paste (ctrl+v) texture image into this and resize/reposition 5. Hit OK to exit Vanishing Point filter; copy the new texture layer; alt+select the mask created in Step 3 above and paste the texture image into this 6. Invert mask as an experiment 7. Adjust the strength of the mask by setting levels (select mask, hit Ctrl+L) Paint on mask to make edge fades more realistic
