This was by far the most informative and helpful E-bike video on KZread not to mention specifically for the Ridstar Q20... Your videos reassure my purchase as I'm using this as a fulltime commuter till I get my license back. This e-bike was the best bang for the buck,, and I knew I could and would upgrade it down the road,, Just didn't know how till your videos... Ik most ppl aren't interested in this, but would LOVE to see a speed upgrade done to this bike, cuz like i said this is my fulltime commuter n sometimes the mornings don't go as planned, n I'm not tryna be late lol. 72V you will need to change controller and motor. 52V you can just change battery and keep stock motor and controller

I noticed you must have painted the side panels from white to black. It looks good, I'm considering doing the same thing, I also want to paint my battery matte black to match. I think it will clean up the looks if it's all black throughout.

I put a holographic black film on mine. I couldn't be happier with it. I had to heat and poke the holes out, but it looks pretty clean

What do you think of the ridstar dual motor version. I read somewhere said it was limited to only 30mph even after adjusting the settings. I was thinking about still getting one and maybe changing out the controllers. Would it be difficult to find a controller to fit?

Hmm so on the new dual battery, dual motor ridstar are there 2 of those yellow aderson connectors? One to each battery because i know one battery is only for the front motor and the other for the back? Are there 2 controllers?

Super 73 seats will not work on this bike as the frame is not flat like a super 73 but rather it has a V-shape hence this seat only fits

I was hoping you could provide some clarification. This is a great video btw. Thank you for making it. I was reading the comments and you said once the battery is installed you don’t remove it. If this is correct, does that mean in order to charge the battery, I would have to have the bike near a wall outlet? And why can’t you remove the battery every time you need to charge it like the stock battery? Is it that inconvenient to remove it? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Your videos are well put together and I am seriously considering doing this . After all 12 extra miles would me helpful. My concern is with charging. I store my bike outside in a shed away from the elements where I don’t have excess to a outlet and since I use this as a commuting bike, having to bring it inside to an outlet every time I need to charge it would be a hardship I think. anyway, thank you so much for your videos.

The extra battery comes with a charge it’s identical to the bike charger. You can easily remove the battery from bag if you don’t want to use it and then reinstall when needed. The straps take a few minutes to adjust once installed

No increase in top speed, but top speed is maintained longer and does not fall off after 20 miles like a single battery.

Anyway to remove the throttle? Throttles are illegal here in Ireland and I’m hoping to just use PAS mode on maximum and hopefully it would be easy to peddle? I don’t mind low speed. Just want to stay legal and hopefully no sweat 😂

You can run both at the same time; but I tend to run just factory battery down to 1-2 bars; turn off then switch to the 2nd battery run that down to 1 bar and then turn both on to get me home

The bike may have a slightly slower top speed with 20A version.

No the 30A battery combiner is sufficient for this bike

It’s not the regular pro but it’s a ridstar dual battery 52v and dual 1000 watt motors. I found it for 1700. According to a post of Reddit it only goes 30mph even after adjusting settings. I’m going to purchase it and probably change out the controllers if possible? I just don’t know where I can find controllers to fit.

For $1700 you can buy a 52V dual battery, dual 1000w motors Yolin ebike that is faster and lighter (aluminum frame) then Ridstar Q20 pro that has 52V batteries has steel frame and controller chokes performance. Im just saying

So on the Amazon links, I believe I need the 2 cable connectors like in ur video, there's a 3rd set of cables, but that's for charging or something like that? And what voltage and amp battery is that u got? There are several choices, id really like to upgrade my mileage, instead of just buying an extra battery, thanks again for all u information.

36V battery is too low and will not do anything if connected in parallel. In series you could be at 84V but you would ruin the bms in both batteries and or fry the controller

No gain in top speed but with 2nd battery you can maintain the higher speeds longer than with single battery after 18 miles speed slow, with two you can go 28 miles. Not much more speed you can get out of bike with 48v; 31 mph top speed is respectable. $5000 super 83 top speed is 32 mph

Doesn’t make it faster, but you can maintain higher speeds longer as with stock single battery top speed slows down after 15-18 miles, with 2nd battery you can maintain top speed longer and go further

Why did you choose to not leave it in the frame and loose the included cargo bag? I'm looking into purchasing the Q20 and do this mod.

Probably the replace the controller with a 25A output. I need to do some research on which one will work. You won’t be able to go much faster maybe 1-3 mph but your range will be shorter. With 48V your maxed out on speed. Even $5000 Super73 only gets top speed of 32 mph and the ridstar Q20 does 31 mph. If you want to go 40-45 mph you’ll need a 60V ebike which expensive and heavy

same performance but top speed and acceleration do not degrade after 18 miles with single battery. Extra battery you do not feel impact until 25-30 miles

If you can buy the Q20 with 20Ah (don’t buy 15Ah version) for less than $999 then go for it. Some of the cheaper bikes don’t have hydraulic brakes which is not good to have mechanical brakes for speed over 22 mph

on/off switch allow you to isolate the 2nd battery and that way you know how much is left. I ride out on factory battery and when I get to 1-2 bars on battery life I turn on 2nd battery and head home

Any way to get around the speed limiter? Would be cool to have some kind of basket too. And was the only reason you ended up moving the battery was so you could flip that on/off while riding? No, controller limits output. I did however have higher speeds longer as the higher voltage last longer. With one battery after about 20 miles voltage dropped and I couldn’t go above 30 mph. Now i can go over 30 miles before top speed drops. BTW this bike is pretty fast for $999 with top speed of 31 mph. $5000 super73 only go 32 mph. You cannot get much faster with 48v

Hey I have the same bike, but my throttle stopped working and I checked all connections and I'm not sure what to do. Does your light staying running on the back? I think maybe my brake is somehow activated at all times engaging that light in the rear and not letting me throttle, any other ideas or fixes? thanks

I had this happen and i flicked the brake levers to get the brake switch to disengage. If that doesn’t work then unplug the brake lever motor cut off wires from the controller to determine which brake is the issue. If the throttle is bad as seller for replacement or buy one in amazon for $15 amzn.to/45vJInP

yes, the controllers in the Ridstar is the same so the battery combiner and extra battery will work. The tricky part might be where to place the extra battery and packaging the battery combiner in a folding frame

How can you make the bike go faster?

You could change the controller to 25A ouptut it might get you to 32-33 mph… but physics has you pretty much tapped out… sell the bike and buy 52V yolin for $1500

I just got my ridstar q20 it goes up to 30 mph but i can't get the speedometer to read it only goes to like 8.9 mph even when not riding it is there a setting for this

check P06 setting for tire size as it should be 23 for 23 inch diameter tire. Smaller number will read slower on display. see full manual drive.google.com/file/d/11lAw9iM5LSeClU6BIZ9uhWouXFD8nR_3/view

You can run both batteries or toggle back and forth with the battery combiner; see parts list in description below video

I did this set everything then find out the old battery power line is not 60xt connector.

The extra battery comes with a separate charger and there is charge wires on the extra battery. You can see the black cable coming from the battery

Does anyone have a link to a faster charger for the Q20?

13 miles throttle only in extra battery that is only 10Ah and 27 miles on stock battery so total of 40 miles. You can go further if you get larger 15Ah battery or ride in PAS 4

The issue with going to 3000W motor you'll also need at least 60V preferably 72V battery. That will cost you over $2000 and the frame might not be able to handle the torque. Best bet is to sell the Q20 and buy a Stealth Bomber Clone with 3000w. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDjbsn9 The 48V 3000W bikes has front and rear 1500W motor which is great for hill climb but range short and top speed is only 34 mph

Longer range but does help maintain higher speeds longer as after 18 miles top speed slows down with one battery

You can’t go much faster with 48V battery. $5000 super 73 only have top speed of 32 mph and Q20 goes 31mph. To go faster you’ll need a bike with 52V or 60V battery

Just Bought Ridstar. but i just wanted to ask, does the base battery (48V 20AH) Dies withing a year or so? I read a comment about the batterry being faulty and dies out after a year of use. Is this true?

All ebike batteries (even expensive LG or Samsung) have a cycle life. If you cycle (charge and discharge) battery constantly below 20% will shorten it's life. Typically ebike batteries get 500-2000 cycles

Hey Rich, awesome video! I just ordered my upgrade items and want to know if you recommend using both batteries in the on position simultaneously or one off and one on at a time? If simultaneous, do you notice that it uses one battery before the other?

I typically start on factory battery and when I get to 1-2 bars I shut the bike off and power up with 2nd battery until 1 bar. Gives time for factory battery chemistry to settle out. Then ride home on both batteries

No disconnecting the battery once installed. Battery comes with separate charger which is interchangeable with factory battery
