Visit www.ThreeSidesOfTheCoin.com / threesidesofthecoin / threesidescoin and CALL US at 320-515-4771 and join the conversation. Three Sides of the Coin is a KISS talk show featuring Michael Brandvold, Mitch Lafon and Tommy Sommers.
In episode 44, October 8, 2013, we are joined by a very special guest, acclaimed songwriter Adam Mitchell. In the KISS world Adam is the man responsible for introducing Vinnie Vincent to KISS. Adam talks about producer Michael James Jackson. His considerable time in the studio during the recording of Creatures of the Night. How he writes songs with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. His thoughts on Crazy Nights. He discusses the tension between Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley in the 80s. He even directly answers the question... did Vinnie Vincent save Kiss.
Michael Brandvold launched the 5th website on the internet devoted to KISS, KISS Otaku. He went on the build, launch and maintain Kissonline.com KISS' official website. Mitch Lafon, a renowned rock journalist, first interviewed Gene Simmons in 1980 and has since interviewed nearly all members of KISS, many more than once. He produced and released a Ace Frehley tribute CD. Tommy Sommers, a successful residential real estate agent in the Minneapolis St. Paul metro area, has been a fan since 1976 and has seen them in concert dozens of times. He spent many years on the record show circuit selling memorabilia and meeting many KISS fans.
It's only our opinion... it's neither right nor wrong.

    For something with "Vinnie Vincent" in the title i was hoping they'd talk about him more but they seem more interested in asking Adam about the songs he wrote with KISS and about Gene and Paul than anything to do with Vinnie and it shows when Adam Mitchell talks about his talent and the reason he got the job being the members felt he could play like Ace their biased views just come through their faces were hilarious when he told them that XD. Gene even came out and said Vinnie was probably the most talented replacement member they got and in his opinion plays rings around Ace. Unfortunately he was a difficult pain in the ass who had an ego to rival Gene but y'know. That one ended quickly probably because Vinnie was too similar to Gene and Paul and it was hard for them to get along because they wanted a hired gun who was happy to just play and write songs then never be in the spotlight and Vinnie wanted to be the star. Not because he couldn't play well and contribute to the band.

    Does Mitch have a pair of the Ace Frehley Spaceman sunglasses? If so, can you persuade him to model them? Speaking of which, with Halloween coming up, any chance of a Halloween special? You could talk about which songs you'd choose as your Halloween picks, Halloween memories, events, Halloween costumes/merchandise/collectibles then and now (coolest, most ridiculous, etc., Mitch could have a field day with this one). Great show, guys. Very cool hearing Adam's thoughts on writing.

    I love the guests you guys have on this show. Adam Mitchell was very interesting. I like his ideas about songwriting. I agree that song comes first it has to be great. However sometimes the "idea" might be the "music" eg Pearl Jam's "Ten", or if we are talking Metallica "Orion" is fantastic but no lyrics there. Not sure I wanted to know about Mitch's orgasm. LOL Then again "Vaseline" is my favorite STP song. Now there's an "idea". Actually I hate the lyrics, it just sounds really cool.

    Yes and to quote Adam Mitchell on Tears " a big hit for Tom Waite" and on Crazy Nights " a huge hit around the world" , both of which are hyperbole and prove that he was interested in commercial success, this is his living. If you research his work, the majority of it falls into lesser tracks on the albums of established artists. He is good at talking himself up but he doesn't have the runs on the board , IMO. He hasn't produced anything to justify the tickets he has on himself.

No one with a critical mind is entitiled to critique a movie because they're not an actor or director ? or music because they don't play an instrument or write songs ? The bottom line is whether it is sport or the arts people can make up their own mind of what they think is good. This is my opinion on Adam Mitchell. I like you guys and I like your show but no need to be so defensive.

    He must have possessed at least a modicum of talent, or he wouldn't have been used as a writer by anybody - and if he became that bereft of talent as time went on, Gene & Paul would never have re-enlisted him to co-write Unholy, I Just Wanna etc on 'Revenge'. You can't on the one hand, love 'Creatures' & 'LIU' as albums whilst on the other deriding the input of a bloke who co-wrote half the songs on those records. I agree he's a fool, but you're better than this being so deliberately dismissive

  • @MichaelBrandvold
    @MichaelBrandvold10 жыл бұрын

    G&P and others can think he has talent, I just don't. COTN is not a great album because VV was involved. Co-wrote could mean many things... a simple lyric and nothing more. As a musician you know that. Why is it a problem that I dismiss him like this. It shouldn't change how you feel.

  • @MichaelBrandvold

    i think vv is a great singer/song writer ,guitar player average i feel creatures he plays great solos when they are slower,when they are fast he plays too many notes that are not adding anything but taking away from the songs. although some of the solos he plays on creatures sound thin because of the production,. but a more self destuctive rock person you would never meet.he could have made a fortune writing and playing no need to bee seen ,small man syndrome i feel he has. great show guys.

    With respect to Vinnie Vincent, you are entitled to your opinion but I never questioned your credbility, I questioned Adam's when he stated that Vinnie sounds just like Ace, this is the first time I ever heard that and it is complete nonsense. You need to take his statements regarding Vinnie with a grain of salt as he has an obvious affiliation with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley so his statements are completely biased.

  • @thedant
    @thedant10 жыл бұрын

    Speaking as a musician, writer & KISS fan, I fail to understand any argument that states Vinnie possesses no talent. I believe that's such a poor sweeping statement. Granted, he is utterly flawed as a person which led to many errors of judgement and poor perspective, but 'no talent'? I couldn't disagree with you more. He didn't save KISS, but he made a far greater contribution than you would all care to admit. I enjoy the show, however!
