The way Adam changed that song and made it his own was sheer genius. I remember when the judges were making fun of that performance and cutting it up, I couldn't believe what I was hearing from those supposed music professionals. I was especially shocked that Randy could not see the genius of Adam's transformation of that song. Wow!!! Love love love everything that Adam did with that song and yes...what an amazing voice, power and range!

Adam is awesome. Regardless of the high notes that Adam achieves, it is important to realize the quality of his voice in the high notes. He has a lot of technique, he uses a lot of mixed voice, he also has a strong and penetrating head voice, which, like the rest of his track, he has excellent dynamics and control. Oh, and without forgetting that Belting is a technical marvel of Adam!

(it's now 2018)... I STILL DO!!! His performances ALWAYS left me wanting MORE!!! My personal favorite was: "A Change Is Gonna Come." THAT performance BLEW MY MIND!!! Simon Fuller certainly knew what he was doing when he chose that song for Adam to sing!!! And I STRENUOUSLY AGREE: ADAM WAS SO ROBBED OF THE TITLE!!! Tho... quite frankly... title or no title...he has ALWAYS BEEN & WILL ALWAYS BE an American Idol!!!💕💕💕 LOVE YOU ADAM!!!💕💕💕

My favourite idol performance of all time. Adam took this June Carter/Johnny Cash country classic way out of its its box and introduced it to a completely new audience. When I hear this song sung by Adam, I like to think that he is actually singing what June really felt when she wrote it. What (in my opinion) a fantastic explosion of both talent and interpretation! I haven’t watched American idol since as I’ve seen the best already. Look at Adam now, loser on idol and frontman for Queen!! Those judges underestimated him by a mile!

Mad World, best ever. I like his version even more than Tears for Fears and I am a HUGE fan of them. This performance was a very close second, but when he did Mad World the first time and then followed up at the finale with the dry ice, dark and super haunting, he really should have won. It's all good though since he is one of the biggest stars to come out of that show and lead singer of legendary of Queen.

Neither his eye liner or being gay had anything to do with it, American idol is about the voice of course. Adam lost because the song he got "No Boundaries" wasnt a song he could rework or rock out too, it didn't work with his vocal strengths. I remember watching this when it aired. One of the questions that gets asked about a cover is what new you’re bringing to the song. This interpretation is completely new and different and actually makes more lyrical sense than the original. There are melodic choices here that alter the harmony of the original a bit but to great effect (for the musician readers, particularly the use of the minor second). This is an amazing performance but, that aside, it’s an amazing interpretation. I was blown away by this performance - I thought it was ridiculously cool. Still do.

@@YourMajesty143 he did say he found this version and in interviews he credited her. I think American Idol just didn’t want him to mention another singing contest in their show. But I did like how he change wailing to a higher register as it conveys more pain and felt more dangerous. Love dilena’s darker version too. I do wonder if the people who makes the arrangement gets something if an artist records their version. I know the original writers do. It’s just that Adam’s version gets more mainstream attention in both Ring of Fire and Mad World and although he did say it’s not his arrangement ... had to wonder if the people who made those arrangements that he popularized gets something?

That is a brilliant suggestion. In fact, I can't think of anything sexier and darker as a musical backdrop than this song in that genre. Now I'm going to imagine this in a film all night. No, actually, fantasies in my head will have a deeper and sexier flow if I play this in conjunction with them. And, yeah, this is the sexiest thing that I have ever heard and I'm 55.

Still listening to this version, and esp the longer studio version. This is the performance that blew Am. Idol out of the water and no one knew what to do with it. The sensuality overtook the greatness of the performance in too many people's minds. But the vocal gymnastics of Adam Lambert were just beginning to show, as were his incredible arrangement brilliance. He twisted nearly all his covers on their heads and inside out. Anyway still listening to this ...

I am a HUGE Johnny Cash fan and I honestly don't see why people are comparing Adam to him. Yes, it is a Johnny Cash song, but he was clearly not trying to preform it like Cash, so shut the fuck up. This takes talent to switch up such an iconic song and I was very strangely intrigued by this. It felt so intimate, I was almost embarrassed watching him on the stage, but I loved every second of it.

You worship someone that thinks someone should be punished for LOVING. I’ll never understand brainwashed religious people, you say that “god loves his creations” yet you’re the most hateful people, if he really loved his creations he wouldn’t think his creations should be punished for things like that. And why would he even create humans that were capable of feeling love towards their own gender?
